ErichVon Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 (edited) Sometimes at take-off I lose a good portion of my HUD display information including no airspeed indication. I then rely on the analog dials. I have the HUD declutter button mapped and I check this. It is not this. What is up with this? Is this a random failure? Am I forgetting a pre-set prior to take-off? Is this caused by an out of sequence procedure at start-up? Edited May 2, 2012 by ErichVon
Nate--IRL-- Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Your rotor RPM is probably dropping below what the generators require to generate electricity - thus knocking out Avionics like the hud, doppler radar and INS systems. Never let the Rotor RPM drop below the warning level (Yellow flashing light and beeping) reduce collective when you hear and see this warning. I start out at about throttle set to Auto via RCTRL + Return as my visual crutch and approx. 8500 rpm on the gage, but it may dip below as I did not think of this. Yeah, I'm still a noob. This Ka-50 is a complicated beast. I am reading my copy of the 2009 metal, spiral ring binder, flight manual I found to Amazon.com, and go back and forth between the two online manuals as my book is in English but all the cockpit instruments are labeled in Russian. I want to get the P-51, but the Ka-50 is more than enough for me, currently. Thank you. Edited May 2, 2012 by ErichVon

Nate Nate, that's a good possible explanation, but it's also possible you might be over-thinking this. Erich, could it be that you just need to reset the targeting system (what is the keystroke... backspace?)? You won't see a lot of HUD symbology (including airspeed) with your Shkval uncaged and/or weapons selected. Also, if you enable the cannon, I think at least that the airspeed goes away as well, but I don't remember for sure. Good point I hadn't thought of that - it was the "At take-off" that lead me toward the low-rpm idea. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
