Max distance from target you can assign an Attack task?

I'm trying to modify the mission "Battle of Krymsk"... this features a B-1B strike on an SA-10 battery using AGM-154c employment. What I notice is that the B-1 has to get really close to the SAM battery (around 15 nm or so) before the missiles will launch. The writer of this mission elected to disable the SAM group's AI once the B-1 arrives within a trigger zone, ensuring the survival of the B-1.

Is there a way to make this a little more realistic? Keep the SAMs AI on, yet launch the AGM-154 from high altitude within its true operational range...which is as much as 70nm, then have the B-1 rapidly leave the SAMs detection envelope. I guess what I'm asking here is what the range limits are in the program from where you specify an "attack unit/attack group/bombing" task to the actual target.

If you make it realistic then the B-1B will likely get shot down because using AGM-154 to take out a SAM site isn't the brightest idea nor is using a B-1B to begin with. If you want more stand-off range then you will need more altitude. Try using the bombing task and force an altitude to be used. I just did a test at around 30k feet and it launched approx 30nm away. Alternatively you can use AGM-86C from a B-52 and those are proper cruise missiles capable of engaging over massive distances.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

Thank you, Grimes. Agreed... using a glide bomb for a low-level ingress to a SAM10 site is kind of dumb. Didn't even know you could fit the B-52H with AGM-86s (in the game that is) until I just tried it... under the task of "pinpoint strike."
