Will we by any chance be able to eventually see higher levels of realism on the combat arms side of things in the future? What I mean is: is there a chance in the future for fully functional realistic tank cockpits with pretty much every button press-able as well as fully functioning systems with startup procedures etc? It would be great to see DCS world grow into something that is going to surpass the ArmA series by far in terms of functionality realism :)

I'm sure there's a 3rd party developer out there who would be willing to tackle it, provided there's enough of a market for the product.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming | i5 7600K 3.8 GHz | ASRock Z270 Pro4 | Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 16 GB | PNY CS2030 NVMe SSD 480 GB | WD Blue 7200 RPM 1TB HDD | Corsair Carbide 200R ATX Mid-Tower | Win 10 x64

I would think the existence of Steel Beasts Pro PE kind of proves there is somewhat of a market (probably extremely small given the price point).

That said, I think it is somewhat a question of intent. I think a Steel Beasts level of realism takes quite a bit of work to create (and even it could get better). So, does ED want to have an extremely realistic ground war sim, or is the intent generally to provide a human ground commander (or commanders) to spice up predominantly PVE missions?
