ophiuchus Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Need a little help with this one. Any hints on minus 30 degrees Celsius engine startup are much appreciated. I've burned my starter like three times this evening, and ran out of ideas. According to manual I prime the engine for about a minute before cranking up, and even during that. If nothing happens after about 20 seconds of turning, I let the starter to cool down, but unfortunately it works for about 2-3 times, and after that starter dies. I don't know if I should dilute oil before every attempt. Thanks in advance ;)
sobek Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Yes, you need at least one minute of oil dilution for the engine to even turn normally when starting. Also use ground power. I must admit that i haven't been able to even so much as get her to puff below -24°C with the latest changes in engine model. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Echo38 Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 If your starter is dying after three or four attempts, it means that you aren't giving it a long enough cool-down time. Be patient. Wait for the whining sound to go away altogether, then wait another ten or twenty seconds for good measure.
SimFreak Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I'm trying for -30 and it's a no go. At -20 I can get her going...but it's troublesome.
SimFreak Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 You need to order the hot air truck! MAC Would be nice. Right now I can't even hookup ground power. Radio comm is blacked out for that option. :(
