mr_mojo97 Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Hi all, I'm wondering, if I buy Black Shark on Steam (at the mo it's only £5), and I then download the Black Shark 2 upgrade from the DCS website which is only £12, rather than pay the full price of £25 and use this through World 1.2.2? Blarney Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 When you install the software from Steam, the BS1 sim puts a Serial Number in your registry. Run regedit and you can find it. When you install the BS2 upgrade, it will look for the BS1 Serial Number in the registry. This will allow you to use the BS2 upgrade. 486DX w/turbo button
Blarney Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 My personal recommendation is to just buy the full version from ED directly so they get all the profits. 486DX w/turbo button
mr_mojo97 Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Thanks, I have steam account already though and BS2 isn't on it. Once I install the BS2 upgrade, will I still have to go through Steam each time or will it install into World and I can then uninstall BS so I can just load through World? Blarney Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 You won't ever be able to uninstall BS1, but you will be able to run BS2 in DCS World without having to launch Steam. 486DX w/turbo button
lokitexas Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 You won't ever be able to uninstall BS1, but you will be able to run BS2 in DCS World without having to launch Steam. Not true at all. 1. Buy BS1 from steam, install it, launch it ONCE. 2. Buy BS2 upgrade from ED, install the BS2 World upgrade module here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=13&end_pos=136&lang=en 3. Launch world, and fly the BS, it will ask for a code, enter the code from the above BS2 upgrade module. Enjoy the game. 4. Uninstall BS1. Simple as that. If you need to re-install DCS World, you will need to re-install BS1 from steam, and follow the steps above. Its not as much hassle as people try to make it out to be. i5 3570k @ 4.3 560ti GTX 2gig 8gig RAM Intel SSD Win7 64bit
Blarney Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 If you uninstall BS1, won't it take the BS1 Serial Number with it? If it does, what will the BS2 Upgrade use to to verify you have a BS1 install? Eh, whatever. The point is, you will be able to use the BS2 Upgrade in DCS World without launching Steam if you do it the way you described. 486DX w/turbo button

After you enter code for BS2 upgrade (step 3) you dont need it anymore. Just like Lock On for flaming cliffs....it checks to make sure you have it. After that there is no need. It doesnt ask for a code everytime you launch a module. Not sure why thats hard to understand. i5 3570k @ 4.3 560ti GTX 2gig 8gig RAM Intel SSD Win7 64bit
