Razmo Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Hey guys, I'm a newbie to Lock On Flaming Cliffs and already finding myself addicted:D. My interest has been focused on R/C simulators so I've become familair with using my 9 channel transmitter for throttle, roll, elevator, rudder, retracts, smoke and etc. I don't own a joystick and found using the keypad cumbersome when controlling the Lock On aircraft. I'd like to purcahse the appropriate joystick so I can effectively pilot the Lock On aircraft. If any one can suggest a good joystick I'd appreciate it. Also, is it possible to run two monitors simlutanously allowing me to pilot form the cockpit screen and watch the aircraft from the outside as well? Thanks, Raz
Guest ruggbutt Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 For joysticks, what kind of money do you want to spend? You can go with a Saitek Evo (real cheap), X45, X52 (mid range) CH or TM (high end). I've owned all of those sticks (and plenty more). So far, my CH gear has lasted the longest without breaking or centering issues. I have the Fighterstick ($101 from newegg), Pro Throttle ($99 Fry's Electronics), Pro Pedals ($99 Fry's electronics), and the Throttle Quadrant ($127 newegg). The FS has a throttle wheel if you don't want to spend money on the PT, and it has insane amounts of programmability.
Razmo Posted November 29, 2005 Author Posted November 29, 2005 ruggbutt, I'm going for the CH Fighter Stick from newegg.com. I was concerned about controlling throttle and I'll likely just use the throttle wheel for now. Does the fighter stick allow me to control rudder or do I need pedals? Thanks for the help!! Very awesome  A few other questions for anyone that can help.... 1) Does anyone happen to know whether I can run two displays simultaneously or 3 for that matter? I'd like to keep the F1 view active as well as the F2 screen OR keep the F1 as my primary, left cockpit window as my left display and right cockpit window as right display. 2) I've noticed that my Futaba interlink controller for my R\C simulator http://www.realflight.com/products/interlink.html is recognized as an input under the options menu. It allows me control of aileron, and elevator on the proper stick (right stick) and the Rudder control (wrong switch) but no throttle control. Also the control is slower than the key pad but still works. I'm wondering if it's at all possible to use this transmitter. Although I'm now thinking it may not be the best since I have no GUN TRIGGER? 3) I'd like to download the "Seasons Pack" but it tells me I have to "buy other products before downloading this free seasonal pack? Same goes for the Movie Pack? Thanks Raz
Guest ruggbutt Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Raz, you'll need the pedals. Try the FS out first and if you like it and the quality, then add pieces as you go. 1) and 2), not sure about. 3) It's free and only works with Flaming Cliffs, so when you buy that you should be able to d/l it. Make sure you're logged into your account. Stop by the CH Hangar for profiles and answers to any questions you have regarding programming your stick. Sign up an account on the forums. Tell 'em rugg sent ya. ;)
SuperKungFu Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 i say go for the X-52 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I say, if you are on a budget of sorts, go for the x45/52, if you want the best and i mean best, then rugg has suggested the best. but the best comes at a premium. Me personally, i want the ch stuff, but i cant afford it at the moment, but i would get them in a heartbeat if i could. You will not be dissappointed with anyone of those above, but if you are real serious about flying and love to have the best kit. then look no further than CH
Razmo Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Guys, I just came across the HOTAS Cougar. It's recommeded by the Virtual Thunderbirds. How do you think it compares to CH? http://us.thrustmaster.com/products/dsp_fam.php?fam=39 Raz
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 well my x52 arrived yesterday, i had a x45 before, i will say some aspect of the 52 are cool, but for some reason i still prefer the x45. the x52 is way way to wobbly, the stick is too slack for my likeing and its a pain in the ass to get it right, also the thumb rotary and other rotary is crap compared to the 45's rotarys. overall i am not pleased with the 52, they ditched some of the best things from the 45, like no rudder rocker = WTF, gay rotarys compared to the 45s, and also a uber slack stick. Ok i know the 45 was stiff in some respects, but i prefer stiff to "breath on it and you go off course slack" I guess, i will have to get used to it or bin it and get something else :(
