el0375 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 in that time you refer, actually he was inside the tank He is ''lucky and unlucky'' as he was the only crewman to survive. as the rocket hit ( which on a video you can pause and see it in the frame) and the tank starts to cook off soon afterwards he tries to escape. My guess is the hatch wasnt even fully closed , the overpressure inside the tank ''pushed'' him out of it ( i guess he was trying already trying to get out immediately, but the cook off came fast). He was lucky to get out compared to the rest of crew, but unlucky in the other sense because of the severe burns he might have sustained ( especially if he breathed that air)+ being shot at soon afterwards.
