Speed Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 This problem does or doesn't happen in multiplayer? Please start multiplayer, try to join a server (if you get that far) and then upload dcs.log (but not me.log). Even if it works fine in MP, still, it would be nice to see the dcs.log. I think that maybe, DCS is having a hard time accessing the file structure. Maybe try disabling all UAC crap, virus scanners? BaalMoloch Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I also had this same issue. Tried reinstalling, deactivating, deleting the saved games, etc... It never worked, I uninstalled the whole thing and installed the standalone version of Black Shark 2 instead. No problems there. That was with v1.2.2 I may try again with v1.2.3 but I'll be checking this thread to see if you get it resolved. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus P6T, i7 975, 6 GB DDR3, GTX670 , Win7 64, X52 Pro and TrackIR.

dkm Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Last night when I tried multiplayer via the multiplayer desktop icon, the initial small screen that says Digital Combat Simulator across the top and has the version numbers and product logos and whatnot across the bottom popped up for a second, the screen flashed black for a split second, and then the screen went back to normal, indicating that the program had shut down. When I tried to access multiplayer from the main DCS launch screen, the same thing would happen except that afterwards I would be back at the main DCS launch screen. I turned off my antivirus program and ran as an administrator, etc, but the same thing happened. The odd thing is, until I upgraded to 1.2.3 everything worked perfectly.
Ripcord Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 MP does nothing. I click on MP from main screen and it acts like a mission is loading - gets to 96% and shuts down. If I click on the MP icon from desktop, nothing happens. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ripcord Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 Wait -- found the culprit maybe Sure enough Speed, anti-virus. Added Constant Guard feature by Xfinity(comcast) recently and it didn't seem to effect my before. But now when I went into to check under MANAGE FIREWALL or APPLICATIONS or whatever in the hell it is, the first thing it asked me was Allow or Block DCS.exe? Like it was waiting to get my input or something. Didn't even see any other applications listed. So I go back into the game and try a Su-25T mission. Works fine. Tried then an A-10C mission. Also worked fine. Now I will proceed with installing CA & FC3 and BS2. Could be that I will have to go in after each installation and click the settings on ConstantGuard, but that's not hard to do. Let's hope this is really the solution this time -- either way, thanks for the helping hand. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Hopefully so... the clue is this: 00000.161 INFO NET: loading C:\Users\SEWELL\Saved Games\DCS\Config/network.cfg : can't open 'C:\Users\SEWELL\Saved Games\DCS\Config/network.cfg' It appears that something was/is blocking DCS from accessing files in Saved Games/DCS I was recently experimenting around with launching the simulator from the command line, when I would screw something up in the command line entry and it wouldn't get the mission, it would act similarly to what you're seeing. If the problem comes back, just try entirely disabling your virus scanners and trying again. Get a different virus scanner if it keeps screwing you up... some of these virus scanners these days are sometimes worse than the viruses themselves... dkm Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 You the man, Ripcord! I'm stuck with Constant Guard, too, since Comcast is my internet provider and that way I get Norton for free (which is a mixed blessing for sure). But I didn't even consider Constant Guard a possible cause of the problem but simply turned off Norton instead. After I read your post I went to Constant Guard, clicked on the Options heading, clicked on Manage my "Blocked Program" rules, and sure enough, it has blocked DCS. I told it to allow DCS to run, and now it seems to be working fine. I've only tried a couple of missions, but thus far they load without difficulty. Thanks Ripcord and Speed!
Ripcord Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 Well, clearly Speed is the man. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
BRooDJeRo Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Wasn't in page 3 mentioned to turn off anti-virus and firewall? 1
Ripcord Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 Wasn't in page 3 mentioned to turn off anti-virus and firewall? Geez that was helpful, trying to make me feel worse? At least I wasn't alone in this. There are sometimes more than one AV and firewall. I will edit this to add that it was for damn sure a lot more help than I got from anybody at ED. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ripcord Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 For whatever reason, I had a problem getting CA to run a mission. But I ran the repair tool and now it works fine. Moving onto my last 2 modules -- FC3 next. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ripcord Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 I would also point out that Norton never had a problem with any of the prior updates, nor did it have any issue with this one. Constant Guard was another story. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ripcord Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 OK F-15C mission loaded up fine in FC3. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
BRooDJeRo Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) Norton has always been interupting gameplay since they exist. I'm sorry to tell you, but it's the main reason i decided many years ago that a good antivirussolution doesn't have to be the most expensive one or even a paid product. When you don't go to obscure websites and have your firewall inbounds setup correctly you don't even need antivirus continuesly active. Only when you want to scan. Most popular browsers will alert you in most cases when something is wrong with a website or location in the first place. These kind of software producers like the fact that there runs fear and a false sense of security inside a population, that's where their money comes from. The biggest risk factor is having a local emailclient. So when you use cloudbased email, don't visit unknown tv/movie/pron websites etc. and don't install every little thing there is to be installed then you'll have more trouble from an active antivirus instead of easygoing. Mostly you don't see and feel it, but it's there always being the pain the behind. Edited March 1, 2013 by BRooDJeRo
Ripcord Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 And there is BS2. All good. Thanks guys, all of you, for the help. Probably we should post something regarding Xfinity CG for some others out there like me. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Speed Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) LOL, wow... Constant Guard seems to be a very bad product. Do a google search on "constant guard xfinity review": https://www.google.com/search?btnG=1&pws=0&q=constant+guard+xfinity+review It seems to be pretty universally disliked, and probably just as bad as the viruses it is supposed to prevent. I based off what I read on these links, I would advise completely uninstalling it. It seems to screw over a LOT of programs out there. Classic case of ED catching the blame for someone else's screw up/poor software. Not that you blamed ED Ripcord, but how many other folks probably had this same problem and placed the blame at ED's feet? Speed Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) First reaction for me is to blame myself for something stupid I probably did. In fact, go back and read my first post in this thread. Yes, and that's exactly what I said- you didn't blame ED. Not that you blamed ED Ripcord My point is, you are the anomaly- most people would have blamed ED, and would go around bad mouthing them. It seems like, for most people (on the forums or not), I see this logic: If problem then if math.random (1, 1000000) == 1 then postDCSLogAndTrackAndAskForHelp() elseif gameModded then blameModMaker() else blameED() end end It must be human nature to follow this path, but it gets pretty frustrating. And yes, I'm exaggerating it a bit. I could probably help the problem by making a youtube video about where to find dcs.log, me.log, tracks, etc. and how to upload them to the forums. I guess now this is just a whine post of my own about average human behavior... originally, I just meant the whole point to be that even problems that seem to be in one piece of software can be caused by something totally unrelated, and this is supposedly one of the big challenges to programming for PCs. It's supposedly so much easier for console developers, when every client will have exactly the same system... Ripcord Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) I am sorry, I didn't mean to post something that created the appearance that I felt you were accusing me -- I understood what you meant, and I appreciate the kind words. Gotta agree on human nature, but whatccha gonna do? People is people. Without that, we would all exhibit AI behavior : ) EDIT: maybe I am not the anomaly -- maybe the overwhelming majority are out there dealing with their issues, but they don't post anything so we do not see them. As for ED, cannot blame them if they specifically warned me to TURN OFF MY DAMN AV before installing. Not their fault I have 2 or 3 of them going (there is also microsoft security essentials, but it seemed to not mind DCS.exe). Speed, I will only say that it would have been good to get some kind of response from them on my ticket. Now I am left with the impression that if something really serious goes wrong with this software, then I am more or less on my own -- well along with the helpful folks on these forums. I owe you a good brew or two, that much is certain. And same to you Dutch dude with the disturbing avatar and the forum name starting with B, which I will not try to spell -- you damn sure did tell me way pack on page 3 that I needed to have those anti-virus applications turned off, you wily rascal. And you did try to help and you gave me things to look for all throughout, before Speed chimed in. That kept me same, and in turn prevented me from putting an office chair thru my monitor. So bolshoe spasibo to you as well, gollandsky drug. Edited March 2, 2013 by Ripcord [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
