Need advice on new build

Hi Guys

 

I have finally been able to save up (and convince my girlfriend) that I need a new system.

This will be my first complete build, so im asking anyone with knowledge in this field, to take a look and advice me if there is anything I should change or avoid.

 

First all I will be using this system to play DCS and Arma III. Second I will use this for video editing. I might be doing some light overclocking.

 

One of the goals is to build a sturdy rig, that will be upgradeable in the future.

 

 

Ok so here are the parts I have choosen

 

• ASUS Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard
   
  
• ASUS Matrix Platinum Radeon HD 7970
   
  
• Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge
   
  
• Corsair 16GB DDR3 1600MHz (CL9) 2x8 Vengean
   
  
• Microsoft Windows 8
   
  
• Corsair Cooling+ Hydro H100i
   
  
• Corsair C70 Vengeance
   
  
• Any suggestion to a SSD?? what brand/size/speed etc etc.
   
  
• Im re-using my current PSU Corsair 750W

good choice, but i think that msi z77 power is better Mobo

7970 i preffer Gigabyte they have better cooling and better capacitators

3770 OK

SSD the fastest and best one is samsung 840 pro ssd

Looks good if you're Asus / Corsair fan. :)

 

Nothing that I would add / take away except that I would stick with Win7 for now (just a personal preference - like to wait a couple of years or so for hardware / software companies to catch up with new OS)

 

For SSD go with Samsung 840 pro 256MB (two of them in Raid 0 if you could strech the budget;)).

Never thought of the MSI Power, but since im going with a watercooler, I guess the thermal armor will come in handy. Keeping things cool is def a high priority.

I guess im kind of a Asus fanboy, but only because I dont have much experince with other systems setups.

 

I might stretch out and get one Samsung 840 pro. What are the second best SSD? (cheaper), just to have something to compare to.

the second fastest is SanDisk Ultra Plus ssd 250gb smaller capacities have lower performance so be careful. well i am not that experienced in Watercooling , for me is classic cooling better.

The price are almost the same, so im going for the Samsung. Any idea regarding the ram? I have choosen 2 x 8 because I eventually are going to upgrade to 32 gb in the future.

Right now 8gb is enough for gaming, but with present prices there is no problem to have 16 Gb. I have

Geil 2x4Gb evo 1,5 V, 1866 Mhz.

Your mobo supports ddr3 up to 2400(!), so why not going for it? 8GB/DDR3-2400 gives you better results in DCS, than 32GB/DDR3-1600. When talking about bottlenecks, mostly cpu/gpu/ssd is mentioned. But memory-speed is another one...

Any source on this? I sincerely doubt 2400 Mhz vs. 1600 Mhz will make any difference at all. In my opinion, you reach GPU/CPU bottleneck way faster than you would notice any difference in RAM.

Yeah good point!

Guess i will stick with the 1600 Mhz or maybe some 1866 MHZ...What about clockspeeeds? The fastest can find in my prize range are CL9

Cl9 will do the job. According to an article I read last year(which I can't seem to find) for gaming a low latency(cl7) 1600 ram was the sweet spot with price/performance. However in the gaming tests the differences were so low that the average person wouldn't notice. So its just a matter of budget. As for the video editing a higher speed ram 2400 would definitely outperform a slower speed.

 

As for the ssd I'm partial to Intel. No issues with the one I have and they have always been at or near the top in customer reviews. They are a bit more expensive than other brands.
