Hello all

I am interested in hosting a dedicated online server with TS server in the Canada region more around Montreal (for ping purposes)

I have 2 x HP ML-350 server with dual xenon processor so I can have redundancy if possible and need be. And already have TS server vr 3.

My questions are:

What is the minimum bandwidth required? Presently I have 30 megs down and 10 megs up.

What are the minimum requirement for a server? I do believe that my server should be OK.

I am very serious about this and if what i already have is sufficient then perfect Otherwise I will have to look at the cost and see what can be done. But in theory I can go up to 200 down and 30 up.

thanks

Our biggest issue up here is that the download numbers have to be so high to get the upload bandwidth anywhere near where we need it.

10 is certainly sufficient to run 10-15 people... maybe up to 20 once some of the inefficiency gets worked out. 30 would be awesome... I'm running 200 down 15 up from Shaw... and it's already pretty pricey. If cost is no option than the 30 will be a pretty thick pipe.

dual xeon probably won't matter much as it is the speed of the processor not number of cores / individual CPUs that matter. I don't know how much memory the system has but it should be about 12 minimum. Graphics- as long as you have some... they're needed to view the interface...

There's an FAQ page in multiplayer that covers a lot of this.

Thanks ENO

i will look in the multiplayer FAQ and see what I can do.

Well price is always an option but there is way around this as a 30 megs up would be about 200/mth

Again thank you

Mine runs about 120/month or so... plus the power etc... and of course wear and tear on the equipment over time. Don't forget- these servers don't just take care of themselves... they need almost constant attention (especially now.)

If you're going to do it I suggest you start small with your 10 up connection and see where it goes. If you've got 10-15 people in there more than half the time (most servers don't even get near that many regularly) then it may be time to upgrade.

But save that money for now.

thank you for the input, as taking care of the server don't worry I am an IT manager taking care of 6 majors hotels, which means more than 40 servers and over 400 users. So this is really not my concern.

My main concern was the server but you did answer my question regarding this

thank you again Sir Eno
