ampentium2 Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Is there any guide for intercept mission (I'm talking about F15C Campaign in FC2..) coz it seems to be either I'm sucks at intercepting bomber with escorts, or the AI and their missiles suddenly went crazily-super-machine... I can dodge missiles without much problem in CAP missions, but not in intercept missions... and to rub salts to the wound, the AI wingmen went crazily stupid (despite labelled as excellent) turn on boresight radar mode and shoot the first thing it locks to, which is me once they're asked to engage bandits... I'm new to the series by the way... still learning stuff... :book:
blkspade Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I started writing a reply thinking you meant FC3, but since you actually be referring to FC2 I'll provide some tips based on that. You really want to engage at a range well outside of boresight, at the very least be scanning to ID where all target are. Trying to employ your AI wingmen with limited time to react is also a bad choice. Find target outside of WVR, have your wingmen turn on radar, designate targets for them to engage. If you are traveling at Full Mil, issuing an engage order will have them kick in afterburner to get into position to fire, usually meaning that they will pass you and not end up TKing you. http://104thphoenix.com/

Since I'm pretty new, maybe I have a bad judgement as well what is too late though usually I start issuing engage command once enemy is in radar range which also means I'm in their radar range... (with the enemy turn on the jammer, well I sucked at judging the distance to fire HOJ too...) As for the AI wingman issue, the problem with them is that they are taking off way too late that usually the command were issued just as they are behind me, probably then they kick in the afterburner but didn't get passed me, get a lock and fire... should I orbit wait for them to take off first? I didn't try that coz I'm afraid the enemy will trigger mission failure first... :helpsmilie: Update: I guess I understand my problems before... I guess I issued command to engage too late... this time around, I wait for the flight to get airborne before engaging bandits and assign each of them target earlier... not only the intercept is successful, it's the first time all of my flight get to RTB... I really thank you for the tips... :pilotfly: Edited April 23, 2013 by ampentium2
blkspade Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Glad you got things sorted out. I'm happy to help where ever I can. Depending on the mission and airfield, I'll take off without afterburner and just my speed gradually increase with just enough climb to reach and maintain 300-350 KIAS. This prevents me from getting too far ahead of the AI without you just spending time trying to orbit the runway. They'll also spend less time in AB trying to catch up wasting fuel needlessly. http://104thphoenix.com/
