Digital Aura Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I really don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if the DSMS is bugged regarding this but I'd appreciate some feedback: I want to veiw the profile and set up some parameters for GBU-12s, for example, so I click both banks (TER). I then click View Profile... I set to CCRP and then go into the next page where you set changes like AUTO LASE : ON and set the Laser timer to 15 seconds. Then SAVE. Then I get ready for the bombing run... I'm all set... azimuth all lines up... release... no laser activation. WTF? I go into VIEW PROFILE and it's as if I made no changes... all back to default. So I select just ONE BOMB at a time in DSMS and click View Profile. Do the same thing. Just for fun, to see if my changes stick this time I click VIEW PROFILE and it shows the default settings. Furthermore, when I deselect all weapons (that is, NO WEAPONS CHOSEN) in DSMS and THEN go into VIEW PROFILE and select a weapon, the changes seem to stick as long as I don't go back to check and see. (very frustrating and unintuitive, imho) My question is twofold: 1/ Does VIEW PROFILE reset everything back to default? How would I check to see my changes? 2/ Is there something wrong with my procedure to set Auto Lase ON and timer?
Luzifer Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 You are working with temporary (manual) profiles when you select stations directly. There are several possibilities to make those changes permanent: 1. Don't select stations, view the list of profiles and edit the existing profile for the weapons you want to change. 2. Same as 1., but you copy the existing profile to still have the original. Same editing, but also set the name field before saving. 3. Save the manual profile by setting the name field before saving.
Digital Aura Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 oh That makes it a little clearer... you're saying that profiles aren't characteristics for onboard weapons but rather templates... I wasn't aware I could make different profiles and save them under different names. I never saw the place to "set the name field". Thanks for that. Still, it seems really confusing the way it is set up.
Luzifer Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Basically you have a set of default profiles for every weapon you have in your loadout. Those profiles are loaded from the data cartridge during your startup preparations (as part of the "Load All"). I guess in real life the pilots would set up the profiles and save them to the cartridge during mission planning, we in the sim only get defaults and have to change them ourselves. The "normal" way to attack is to set the HUD as SOI and select the desired profile with the DMS short left/right. That way you can have multiple profiles for the same weapons with different settings set up in advance and only have to choose from them to get all the settings. Creating a manual profile by selecting weapon stations on the DSMS is really just for those situations where you don't have the profile you require and need to set it up quickly. Well, that, and for creating new profiles from scratch without editing or copying existing profiles. The name field is on the left on the first page you see when you view a profile and it's initially empty. One more thing, when you go into an existing profile, set the name field and save you rename the profile. When you change the settings and set no name, you edit the profile. When you both set the name and change the settings then you get a copy with the new settings under the given name.
WildBillKelsoe Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Make sure in the profile table page that the weapon is not only highlighted, but the arrow to the left is pointing to it before you open VIEW PROFILE page. If you arm the TGP, to the left of its switch is the laser switch, make sure it is also in the armed (up) position.
