alexej21 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Hello Guys, Looking forward to fly some search and rescue missions. Which radio should I use to locate the ground unit ? ADF set or VHF navigation set ? What should I set on the ground unit in mission editor to broadcast its position ? Thank you. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .....Vladimir, let's go to Sukhoi.......
ScottishMartialArts Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I'm not (yet) a mission designer so I don't know the implementation details, but if the Elbrus Rescue mission is anything to go by, you use the FM COMM radio. AFAIK, ADF is going to require an actual ADF beacon, where as with the FM COMM you just tune into the ELT frequency, and set the radio mode to HOME. The VOR indicator will then come to life, giving you azimuth indications to the beacon. 1
wess24m Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Hello Guys, Looking forward to fly some search and rescue missions. Which radio should I use to locate the ground unit ? ADF set or VHF navigation set ? What should I set on the ground unit in mission editor to broadcast its position ? Thank you. Take a look at the rescue mission included with the huey in the mission editor, they (the troops) are broadcasting over VHF FM. In that mission set your FM radio to home and which ever freq you need. So in practise, the troops in that mission are broadcasting on 40.5, set VHF FM radio to 40.5, set transmit receive switch to home (4 clicks clockwise), use the Course deviation indicator (on the dash) for navigation using the VHF FM method. If you are navigating to a NDB (not sure if you can add these in a remote location) tune the NDB frequency into your ADF radio and flip the switch to ADF, use the Magnetic compass homing needle for navigation. The manual is vague on the use of the radios and navigation. I'm in the process of writing my own radio use manual, all this info I had to figure out on my own and internet documents on the real radios because of the lack of detailed info in the manual. 1
ScottishMartialArts Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 all this info I had to figure out on my own and internet documents on the real radios because of the lack of detailed info in the manual. Same here. Fortunately it's not terribly complex, and if you have any prior sim or RL aviation experience then none of it is new. Still if RMI, CDI, VOR, NDB, NAV Radio vs. COM Radio, etc. are all new concepts, then the manual isn't going to help you.

There quite a bit of new switchology. i.e. HOME(ING)/TR+G/GD XMIT/ RETRAN (NOT IMPLEMENTED). Different carrier methods,BFO/ANT/LOOP. All these I had to research, I've been flying sim's since flight sim 1.0 as well as being a HAM operator. While the manual gives a very brief description of most of these features it doesn't go into using all of them. EDIT: Yo another Northern California flyer, I'm East of you in the Yuba-Sutter area.
alexej21 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Thank you guys. The mission Rescue Elbrus helped me. Unfortunately I found a bug :( If you open the mission in MP than only the host is receiving the signal and sound. Similar to the problem with Datalink in FC3. Already reported this in BUG forum. I hope they fix this ASAP,because you can't fly MP search missions without navigation... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .....Vladimir, let's go to Sukhoi.......
