Would just like to run a quick poll on how much time on average do most people have to fly DCS when they have the chance. I find on many occasions by the time i even get airborne I've been goofing off for 45 minutes getting setup and then it seems 9 times out of ten I've run out of time before I even get to finish the mission. This removes the good feeling of satisfaction when you complete a mission and the whole experience becomes a bit like ground hog day for those who remember that movie.

Missions such Operation Bactria and the more recent Operation Talon fix this issue by allowing you to check in and out and having taskings randomized so you can take up the mission again and it will be slightly different not having to go through the whole senario again especially the boring parts.

The Poll askes for average times people have to play allowing for the mission builders to consider this when designing taskings.

I can spend 12 hrs flying between DCW abd FSX but Im retired and the skirt comes 2 or 3 times a week so I give her priority

Being retired I honestly dont know how I would cope without my flight sims, probably spend all my time sitting in a bar :-)

I hear you Charlie, I am waiting to retire so I can have more time. I like to think I wear the trousers in my house but when the wife gets ferocious a flee for cover dropping chaff and flares all the way.. We will see how the poll turns out. There is either a lot of brave men out there or they are single.

I think it's important that the community get both/all kinds of missions. I tend to make missions with vGroup in mind, where 4 hour missions are more the norm and there are few respawns, refueling is typically required. Nothing wrong with people putting out flights where you can be in the action instantly and respawn and be right back in.

Ideally the community is putting out quality .miz's for both quick and long-duration missions.

I considered shortening Talons Reach for the public version to skip the long fly in (and may still do so), but know there are others out there that enjoy the length. I think when you invest time to ingress, refuel, etc., you are more likely to be invested in keeping that jet intact and find more intensity in the mission, as a respawn isn't really feasible given the flight time.

I also feel your pain, though. 4-hour blocks to fly are few and far between these days ;-)

Totally agree a good variety of missions makes sense for sure. It is a shame we cannot save the MP mission in progress, a friend of mine managed to to do this once with certain coding but it was unreliable and DCS did not like it. I remember the old days with Falcon 4 where you could do it and it was great.

I personally enjoyed the long Ingress in Talons reach as you said when you invest the time in getting there you tend to take care of what you are doing. In some missions I have made I will however drop a couple of flights that spawn near the AO just in case someone gets nailed.

Its funny I can sit their quietly building a mission for many hours at a time without the wife detecting :music_whistling: I may be getting some sort of pleasure from it but as soon as I start the engines :joystick: she knows Im enjoying myself and must intervene and put an immediate stop to it.
