DPS Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Anyone interested in good read about helicopter flight should try and find a copy of Principles of Helicopter Flight by W.J. Wagtendonk. It has more relative airflow/vector diagrams than you can shake a stick at, and it seems to exclusively cover choppers with anti-clockwise turning rotors like the Bell machines. 1

Excellent book and not for the casual flight simmer. A lot of technical information in this book and simply fascinating stuff.. "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
Chelco Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 That's a great book, DPS. Thanks for the heads up. I had it in my library for a year already and never got really into it. The time has come! On a lighter and more fundamental tone, I have also this one: Learning to Fly Helicopters, by R. Padfield Basic, but nonetheless useful for all the virtual pilots out there making a transition from fixed wing aircraft. Cheers, Real and Simulated Wars
DPS Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 I got myself a second-hand copy when Black Shark came out; the book was so fascinating I never got around to purchasing the Ka-50 game :)
Sundowner.pl Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 "The Helicopter Pilot's Handbook" by Phil Croucher - book for those wanting to become a professional helicopter pilot, a lot of it explains different jobs with tips on how they should be executed safely. It is heavy around Bell 206 and SA350. Have useful tips on mountain flying. Although for our flying I would not recommend buying a new one, get used one or borrow it. And there is of course "The Art and Science of Flying Helicopters" and "Cyclic & Collective More Art And Science of Flying Helicopters" both by Shawn Coyle... not much to say other then - it's a rotorhead bible  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "If a place needs helicopters, it's probably not worth visiting." - Nick Lappos
