eFirehawk Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 (edited) Hello everyone, Just wondering if more people realized the way I did how good it is the fact that DCS gives us a somewhat decent freedom to adjust several different aspects of the game if we are bothered to dive down into the config files and potentially adjust way more stuff than the in-game options allow us to. :) I play both flight games dating back to the old Microsoft F-19 ( that ultra high-pitched engine noise would drive my mom crazy ) and racing simulators. That are many other games that I like, however they are very limited when it comes to fiddling with their parameters, and very simple adjustments could make them even better in many ways, but sadly that's not always a possibility. As much as I love DCS A-10C "out of the box" more than broccoli ( ), with the graphical adjustments, view mods, and many others my own 'DCS A-10C customized edition' for me is at least twice as good. For example, the "Reworked cockpit views with proper neck" mod is actually spoiling my experience with other games to an unbelievable level :D Moving the look-at point of the camera without the "natural feel" of it in DCS and also in other games it feels just as bad as not having TrackIR. :joystick: And of course there are many other little important mods for me as well. Another game that I also enjoy mostly because of the customizability which is somewhat similar to DCS is Image Space Incorporated's rFactor, a racing simulator. Within the .ini files I can even adjust how many degrees the steering-wheel in the cockpit of the car rotates in relation to the input of my own steering wheel controller, and simple things such as this are what makes the difference. In every other racing games developed by bigger companies ( which are nowhere near as friendly to customize ) I always feel ultra-weird when I'm turning my steering wheel 900 degrees and in the 3D cockpit the driver merely gives it a pull, doesn't matter if it's a street Corvette that should rotate it's steering wheel around 1050 degrees. :joystick: And then again, this is just a small example among many others I could write here. Does anyone else also feel like this? :) Have you ever been able to hugely enhance your in-game experience either in DCS or other games only by using simple mods or adjust some parameters in a config file? Scarecrow Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I used to mod FC1 alot but since getting A10c&P51 all I've done is change the FOV's. I might go and have a look to see what mods are going around now that you reminded me, thanks for the suggestion:thumbup: The Team Fusion Mod for Cliffs of Dover is the only reason I gave that game a second chance. Its amazing what modders can do for abandon ware:megalol:
Erforce Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 The only thing i've done, is to make SA-10 S300 a movable unit. ;) I'm pretty satisfied with other standart content. Others thing i would like, is in ED source code, so not tweakable.
