Bucic Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) The first time I've noticed it was with 3D models from A2A simulations, leter from DCS hawk, rFactor2... It's mostly visible at 3D model surfaces at small angle or in a plane tangent to the location on the model. Does anyone know what it is, what is this new overused and abused effect? http://imageshack.com/a/img845/8415/i377.jpg http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114528 Edited October 16, 2013 by Bucic F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
Bucic Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 Answer: Yes. The technical term is Fresnel (also commonly known as Rim Lighting) -- and it's very useful, at the proper level. You may feel it is abused, but it does a decent job of simulating light reflection at perpendicular angles and it's a fairly cheap shader. It's however easy to overdo it. It's a matter of ticking a checkbox in 3DS Max when exporting and the fresnel would be gone from the 109 pit.
