Ok, I am first going to explain the problem I am having then I will describe what I've done thus far to try to correct it. Right now I am completely baffled and cannot even fly A-10C with the rudder pedals.

I have a CH Fighterstick USB which and I recently got some hand-me-down Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals. When I go into options to map my controls, the CH Fighterstick and the Saitek Pro Pedals have all the exact same settings. I can change the rudder settings, save the lua profile, and close out of options, then go back in and the settings I have set or undone (such as setting up wheel brakes on the rudder pedals, and de=mapping Button 1 for guns on the pedals) are back again.

I have read a lot of forum posts on this or similar problems that suggest everything from deleting registry keys to updating drivers to simply removing the settings from A-10 Game settings in addition to A-10 Sim settings, all to no avail.

The following summarizes most of what I have tried thus far:

* completely uninstall both Fighterstick and Saitek Pedals, including software and drivers

* completely remove the joystick keys for the Fighterstick and Saitek pedals from the registry and re-install both

* cleared out every single setting in CH Control Manager (and verified that it is not seeing ANY input from the pedals) and reset them to direct mapping (DX mode)

* completely deleted all control lua files and all settings in A-10 Game, A-10 Sim, and General controls settings for both the Fightersitck and the pedals

* re-mapped the rudder brake pedals to wheel brakes and tuned/inverted as suggested by several threads

In brief, here is what is happening in-game when I attempt to use the rudder pedals and the Fighterstick:

The Fighterstick seems to work perfectly for basic flight controls (roll, pitch, throttle, etc.)

The rudder pedals work great on the rudders and NWS.

The Fighterstick seems to lose mapping of some settings, specifically the Master Mode switch (button 3).

The biggest issue that makes it impossible to use to rudder pedals is that any input on the brake pedals is interpreted as roll/pitch inputs. When sitting on the taxi-way and testing the wheel brakes, this is what I see:

initially before ANY input, flight controls in neutral

as soon as I put any input on the left pedal, the flight control surfaces go full roll right (or left if inverted)

when I release the pedal, the flight control surfaces go full roll the opposite direction

the same thing happens with pitch on the right pedal

I can move the roll/pitch with the brake pedals and can only get neutral/flat by holding the pedals mid-travel

DCS World is, for some reason, mapping my rudder brake pedal inputs to roll/pitch.

Anyone have any ideas? I would hate to re-install DCS World, but that is my next step if nobody has any ideas. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried deleting/renaming ..\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input? That is where the setting are stored. Reinstalling the sim will not fix that issue.

Why did you only touch the Joystick folder? The problem you describe above appears to be with the rudders.

Either way, as I said, I would rename the entire Input folder.

Btw, the fact that the various controller have the same settings by default is a known flaw in DCS World.

So you go intoo the game and remove all the axis settings from the pedals. Then you remap them to the correct setting. Start the game and the pedals still controll roll. Then you go back to the settings page and the pedal axis are set to control roll again. Is this right? Did you check to see if maybe the control settings files are set to read only? Just an idea.

I got it working finally... I *think* I was making a very stupid mistake, but finally things seem to be working correctly.

I do have one noob question though, so please forgive me: when I was playing with the options after I did a re-install, I selected not to update/patch and now I cannot get the autoupdate to start again. Is there a way to make it manually patch? I'd hate to have to download the entire thing again just to get this small patch :\

The updater only checks once every 24hrs.

To force an update go to

Start Menu>All Programs>Eagle Dynamics>DCS World>Update DCS World.

You should also note that there is a Repair DCS World option there as well (for future reference).

Glad you got it fixed.

NOTE: Neither the update or repair functions will touch your Saved Games\DCS folder. Actually, they both touch some log files in there but that is all.

Much appreciated. I will more than likely regret posting this, but in the odd chance that it may help someone in the future I will sacrifice my pride. Keep in mind that I am a computer expert with over 20 years of programming and system admin experience >.<

One of the contributing factors to the odd behavior in my control settings (I believe) is that I was making setting changes, saving the profile, then closing out of options. It seems that hitting the exit (x) at the top right before clicking the ok (checkmark) at the bottom of the options screens causes problems, as the setting changes don't take place UNTIL you select ok.

And now I really feel like a dolt.
