MrRogers Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Greetings everyone! Question: Regarding the Early Warning Radars/ and MANPAD Comm units, How do I link them to the proper units? ie. Link a EW Radar to a SAM site? Does this happen automatically or do I need a trigger etc? Also if SEAD can take out the EW radar, does the game simulate the loss of coverage accurately? Thanks CO 6vMAW Looking for wingmen? Come Fly with Us!
Grimes Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 SAMS aren't currently linked to one another, so each is its own entity. However EWR's do add in datalink capabilities for the Su-27, Su-33, and Mig-29A/G/S variants, so it is invaluable in a fighter scenario for those aircraft. The manpad comm units simply need to be in the same group as the manpad launchers, however I can't recall exactly if the manpad comm units impact the launchers in any way. MrRogers Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Excellent! I appreciate the feedback. What about a datalink between the EWR/command center and the Ground Based SAM Site such as an SA-2? If I set up a SEAD scenario and take out the Command center it should neutralize the threat but how would I link the launchers with the command? What about the coverage loss issue? Dedicated early warning radars only do air target datalinking in DCS. SAM types with separate search radar units have those in the game—make a group with a command post, search and tracking radars (which have the suffixes 'SR' and 'TR'), and launchers, and they'll all work together correctly. MrRogers Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Ok that makes sense. Time to put this into practice. Thanks for the help! CO 6vMAW Looking for wingmen? Come Fly with Us!
MrRogers Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Is there a reference for the different detection hard decks and ceilings for the different systems? Or is it better to say if my aircraft alt is < X > i can avoid detection as a general rule? Obviously terrain will mask my presence such as mountains etc. CO 6vMAW Looking for wingmen? Grimes Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Terrain masking and beaming the sam are your only options to prevent being detected by them. You can fly over some sams in terms of the threat envelope, and maybe a few have a blind spot nearly directly above them in terms of radar detection, but generally they will still know you are there.
