SgtPappy Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Is there a reason that the Su-27 and F-15 do not have RWR antennas on their bellies? I find that showing an emitter my belly, I no longer receive pings from them. I know that some planes (like the 1960's vintage F-8E Crusader) had RWR antennas on the very bottom between the main wheel doors. It seems like this configuration was discontinued in the 70s.
Stickers Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Good question, I think it has to do with orientation of receiving the radar pings. Since the RWR is displayed on a N/E/S/W 2D plane for threat display, having a receiver on the belly might be counter productive. If you are getting an indication off your belly receiver, there might be no way to relay the information to the pilot since the aircraft is in a maneuver that has no definite end orientation. I hope this sort of makes sense...
GGTharos Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 They do, it's just not modeled. Is there a reason that the Su-27 and F-15 do not have RWR antennas on their bellies? SgtPappy Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 Well that is strange. I guess they haven't modelled it because of some game/coding limitation?
Pepec9124 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Well that is strange. I guess they haven't modelled it because of some game/coding limitation? There are no limitations, it's just not on high priority list.
SgtPappy Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 Ah ok. Well that is interesting. Looks like we'll have to wait a little longer for up to date RWRs
