I have this problem I'm trying to troubleshoot. It's somewhat well known but I've never seen a fix for it. I have a Dell Dimension Pentium 3 Ghz 800 mhz FSB, 1 gig Ram, ATI X800 x 256 AGP, Dell 20 inch widescreen DVI Monitor. A friend of mine has a different computer but very similar specs including monitor size. Flying at each other, when the textures (aircraft) begin to first load, they appear as dots in the sky. For my friend, it's at 14 nm, for me it's at 8 nm. Around two nm for me, the texture is drawn some more and I sometimes lose site while this is happening, for my friend, I believe it's around 3 nm. At 4 nm or so, my friend can tell that I'm an F-15 and which way I'm turning (I presume he zooms in a bit). I do not have this level of detail at this point. To summarize, everything that he sees, I don't see till much later. We have compared all kinds of settings and had no luck. Does anyone have anything helpful to say about this ? (Please don't tell me anything about real world ability to see aircraft, as I don't fly against any real F-15's very much).

Thanks

Have you or your friend changed the visibility range settings at all? There are settings in the Graphics.cfg file that determine clipping/LOD distances for objects. If you have ModMan installed, you can go to "Graphics Settings" from the main menu and more easily adjust the various values. If you don't have ModMan, go here and download it (free registration required), it really is a great utility.
