A little question about the Oxygen Pressure Gauge...

Hello,

I have one little question about the Oxygen Pressure Gauge, when I start one mission with my P-51D the pressure is 400 Psi.

But if during one flight I close the Emergency Valve after few minutes the Oxygen Pressure Gauge display 0 Psi.

And if I open the Emergency Valve again impossible to have one pressure, please can you tell me if it's normal ?

And what the reason of this drop of pressure ?

I would like to thank you in advance for your help, best regards. Skull

The emergency valve (red knob) should only be used if the oxygen regulator fails. It allows the oxygen from the bottles to bypass the oxygen regulator to flow directly into the mask. It causes a rapid drop in pressure because the oxygen is used very quickly. The emergency valve is closed by turning clockwise and is opened by turning counterclockwise.

In normal operation the oxygen from the bottles goes to the oxygen regulator where it mixes with free air to achieve a certain oxygen/air mixture.

On the instrument panel there is the oxygen blinker. When it is moving oxygen is breathed by the pilot, so the system works properly.

For more information you can look into the P51 manual on page 89-90.
