I've come back to DCS mission editor, preparing for the AFM F-15 and future F-18, but I'm finding a problem with AI fighters. Either I leave them with the default advanced waypoint option (like CAP) and they engage things 100's of a mile away and burn all their fuel getting there or I disable that and use Search Then Engage in Zone. However, they never engage. The other day I had a F-16 report an enemy contact that was in it's engagement zone, but it ignored it completely until it was shot at. I did not change the reaction to threat settings.

 

I've had no problems using this in previous versions of the game. Has something changed in 1.2.6?

I'll have to test it out to see if I can replicate, but I prefer using just the "Search and Engage" task with a limited range. This will make AI only engage targets within the specified distance of itself.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

I forgot Search and Engage had a range, though I sometimes use the zone variant since you can sort of make specific shapes with multiple circles. Anyway, I will try S&E.

 

Here is the mission to save you the trouble of building something. The F-16 on CAP won't react to the Flanker until a missile goes active.

It seems like it might have been because orbit was set at a higher priority than attack.

Yep that was it, I just didn't remember to set the priorities right.
