Hey all, my friends PC ( p4 2.4 Ghz 1.5gb RAM 80gb HD xfx 6800xt win xp SP 1 nvidia drivers 80.77 DX9c, 400watt power supply) crashes in games after about 5 min. It works for hours at a time in windows, but crashes in games, ie BF2 and call of duty.

The graphics card is only a few weeks old, the problem has been occuring for only one week. I have suggested maybe the system is getting too hot or maybe the power supply is on the way out, but I'm not expert. Any advice from anyone?

Yes it sounds like a heat issue......

You might want to try running without the side cover if you havn't allready......

That might just fix it.....

Is it crashing in MP[online]?If it's in offline also, I had a simular problem with crashing,I had to turn down the HAZE setting from advanced to basic in the graphics options,I think it's a issue with nvidia cards. Opps reread your post again, you state it happens in other games.....sorry no idea

Hi,

had a similar experience a while back. Game was running fine, then all of a sudden sounds stutter and keeps on replaying (sounded more or less like a machinegun rattling) for 5 seconds and the PC rebooted. Had this happen in different games. Solution was to turn the hardware sound acceleration down a notch or two, or even all the way.

Hope it helps.

This is a known problem:

Be sure the sound hardware accelaration has been disabled.

kind regards,
