Rules
Respect
Treat everyone like they know your mother, and could complain to her about you. Do not bring up religion or politics, either directly or indirectly. Don't mention Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, Brexit, immigrants, health care systems, or anything like that. We'd prefer it if no one knew where other people stand politically, but if you must discuss that stuff, do it in DMs, and keep it off the 71st server. Right, left, center, or none of the above, everyone's welcome here if they're polite and respectful.
We're not trying to enforce any orthodoxy of thought, so courteous disagreements about in-game subjects are fine -- if you think the F-14 is the best jet, or the Persian Gulf map is better than Syria, go ahead and make your case -- but we don't want to bring the outside divisions of an ever more polarized world into our fun-and-friendship-oriented squadron. Swearing is fine, but in all other respects, pretend your mother will receive a transcript of your posts.
Motivation
While we're happy to do coaching, we just lead horses to water, we don't try to convince them to drink. You have to do your homework. If you run into problems, we're here for you, but we expect you to have made an effort to sort yourself out before asking for help. Don't ask how to cold start your jet. There's YouTube and Chuck's Guide for that. If you can't get a Maverick to lock, or your radar isn't behaving as expected, feel free to ask away. If you want to do your homework, but are having trouble getting started, feel free to ask for pointers to resources.
Appropriate Restraint
This includes not taking on more than you can handle, and avoiding spoiling other people's fun. If you can't IFF properly, don't shoot at airborne targets until you can, because shooting down friendlies is a very serious no-no. If you're not great at controlling your jet, don't attempt to fly a tight formation, because you might crash into your flight lead/wingman. It's fine to be bad at things when you're starting out. It's not fine to let that ruin things for others.
Not tying up the radio also falls under this category. If you're going to have to talk a lot, move to a different SRS frequency/Discord voice channel, so others can communicate on the primary frequencies. You don't have to sit there in stoic silence all the time, but if you're going to chit chat, do it on a channel/frequency where it won't prevent others from communicating.
