  1. I have been flying the Mig-19 quite a bit. While I don't find the cockpit ergonomics too bad, one design decision is baffling me. The gun ammo counter seems terribly placed. Surely this is important information in a dogfight (it might determine whether you take a chance to break off or not). Yet you have to look right down and behind the stick (this might be easier in real-life, but it still seems too far down). Is there a technical reason it had to be down there or did they just not worry about that sort of thing (or am I wrong that it is poorly placed)? Just to be clear, I am talking about the real-life decision to place it there, not how it is modeled in DCS.
  2. Very nice!
  3. Are two of the triggers around the wrong way on this mission? I was flying south over the mountains, when I got a message to engage the enemy fighters (who were miles away on the other side of the Tbilisi airfields). I ignored this and went to the 520 beacon. I then pushed on to the airfields. Over the airfields I got a message to go to the 520 beacon and then push on to the airfields (where I was). The messages would make perfect sense the other way round, I just wonder if they were swapped. It didn't affect the mission at all, still great fun dog-fighting among the SA-2 launches :).
  4. Nice review! It does(or can) have a RWR (I believe the mission creator can choose to add it or not, it is in the campaign missions). It is on the left (looks like a bolted on box with a switch and two lights). It is rear aspect only and just lets you know if someone is locking on. Success with the missiles seems to be quite dependent on being at the right range as well as making sure your plane and the target are not maneuvering hard. The missiles seem reliable in a steady 1.5 to 2G turns with a target about a kilometre to a kilometre and half out.
  5. Just "finished" the first mission after a quite a few attempts. Okay so I didn't quite make it home (I had to eject after running out of fuel). I did dogfight with the Mig-15s for quite a while (probably too long considering I ran out of fuel) without spinning into the mountains (like so many times before) so that is something (although there were no casualties on either side, I did fire an Atoll and some cannon rounds to little avail). I also reached the abort point for the recon. So technically, slightly, just, a mission complete!
  6. Out of curiosity, were any of the J-6 variants close to the Mig-19P modelled here?
  7. I brought it because of the free module month and I am having a great time with it. It is really fun trying to push it to its limits in a dogfight (while desperately trying to keep the speed up, otherwise it is spinning or stalling time). It's my first full fidelity aircraft and I have no regrets.
  8. Thanks. I would definitely buy a 55 to 65 asset pack. I reckon though when they come back to the Mig-19 (I believe they are focusing on the Harrier and Mirage right now), they should add at least one contemporary opponent (whether that is a F-100, Super Mystère or a F-5A if that is easier).
  9. Cool, I don't suppose there is any information yet about what will be in the pack?
  10. I am loving the Mig-19. Are there any plans to add more AI opponents (such as the F-100 or Super Mystère)? The F-5A could also be a good opponent as well as an early model B-52 or B-47.
