    Freefalcon?

AS far as stability goes Falcon AF is the best way to go. Never had any problems running it in Win 7. No widescreen support with the cockpit that comes with it but there are some payware cockpits that support WS. Havent messed with FF or OF at all, stability is more important in my opinion.
  2. Lol, someone take out his pirate ship!
  3. Lol, I cant give away my PC yet. If Battlefield 3 is a big failure then you can have it all for sure.
  4. I was gonna buy one of these, spent the money on an FN Herstal FNS 9mm instead.:music_whistling: X-52 works fine anyways, haha.
  5. Lol, anytime I see the XBox or Playstation logos on the info screen I automatically give it a pass...
  6. Never said I knew it all, I said I know how to fly and fight. I'm sure the CDU cant be too complicated, I have been flying airliners in FS since 2004. I must admit i have not even once done anything besides press the nav button on the A-10 CDU. This random mission generator, have you guys used it and does it create any missions worth flying or does it like to make the combat area a SAM haven with no SEAD aircraft to help out? I have a problem with creating missions. That problem is that after I create the mission there is no value in flying it since I know exactly what to expect and this kinda takes the fun out, you know what I mean? I am interested in the random mission generator however, assuming it works well that is.
  7. I know how to fly and fight in the aircraft, the missions and campaigns are ho-hum and the multiplayer has almost no one using it. What am I supposed to do now? I have no interest in the ME, are there going to be any more campaigns released anytime soon? Aside from the ME there appears to be zero replayability here... What do the rest of you do?
  8. All I have ever done was download the new CCC package and then run the installer. It then gives you the option to install or uninstall so I just click uninstall. The uninstal process finishes and you reboot your PC, then click the installer again and select install. There you go, you now have the new drivers. I have been doing it this way for years and have never had an issue.
  9. Ok, lets put all the arguments about financial issues to rest. We already know ED is not going to do something that will hurt the company in some irrevocable way. Lets just assume that a DC is coming sooner or later. Under this assumption the post above illustrates pretty well why there should be a DC. When you make things happen inside the DC they stick through the campaign, they have an impact on the campaign and they have an impact on the player. This creates immersion, not necessarily realism. Realism comes from accurate systems modeling, flight models, damage models, weapon systems and anything of this nature. We have just about all the realism we can handle in DCS, and I thank ED for that, now we just need some immersion. A DC will properly get us fully immersed in the DCS world and most importantly increase the replayability and fun we can have with it. I would like to know how my rep went from +2 down to -97 in a matter of hours yesterday, someone not like something i said? Someone who has some control of these forums perhaps? Thanks alot if so.
  10. I hear ya, I was playing all those sims I listed when I was 9-15 years old. I know there are still a few smart ones out there. That being said I have also been addicted to COD since release, though that has really tapered off since MW1. Cant wait for BF3...
  11. But you are absolutely right. Just because they made a DC their company failed? What nonsense. The more this EtherealN person says the less I think he knows about software companies and how the business world works. To say any company failed because one component of the product was "broken" is just rubbish, it takes many factors to close the doors and none of us really knows why Microprose went under. Other than Hasbro (Dont they make little plastic G.I. joes?) didnt have the proper knowledge of what it took to make and support a sim of such complexity so they just cut it loose. If Microprose popped up again with Falcon 5 and it still had the same, slightly updated DC I would give them my money so fast the jet wash would make an A-10 stall into the dirt. To not acknowledge the great impact F4 has had on the sim community is just foolish, even if you love DCS.
  12. I usually dont even mess with the targeting pod unless I am carrying LGB's. What I do is fly at about 12k feet, receive the JTAC target on the TAD and make it SPI. When over the target area I visually identify the target and then roll in when the solution looks good. I dont have any trouble with SAMs in the first few missions but after that it gets more difficult. 1. Just press the \ key again. 2. I believe all of the 9 line is covered in the manual. 3. Cluster bombs dispense various types of bomblets over a wide square pattern. CBU-87's are good for infantry and light armor, CBU-97's are best for killing tanks. Drop them in CCIP mode for best results. 4. You can load more fuel into the aircraft at the start of the mission by going into the ground crew menu found in the comms menu. You can also change your loadout this way. 5. ATC comms are kind of broken, just land when you feel like it after calling in a request for landing. 6. In a non powered landing you should keep the gear up and flaps up as long as possible to conserve airspeed. I didnt watch the track but any landing you can walk away from is good enough, especially in a damaged or gliding aircraft.
  13. After playing a few missions from each campaign all I can say is, meh. Without a DC it is truly...meh, but I wont go into that here. I was wondering if anyone has made any additional campaigns for A-10 and where I might find them. Also, as a suggestion for future campaigns, please set them up like the Devils Cross campaign where you start on the ramp cold and dark. The others where you start already on the runway kinda sucks what little immersion there is out of the sim. Just a thought. Oops, didnt mean to put this in the tech support area.

  14. I remember MiG-29 had a 600+ page manual that came in the box...I remember it well since I read the whole damn thing when I was trying to figure out why my 386 PC kept locking up on me. There was actually quite alot to these sims, especially when you consider when they were made.
  15. I have to agree with you, I remember when we had many more sims available to us. Remember Spectrum Holobytes Mig-29? X-wing? TIE Fighter? F-117? Tornado IDS?Alot more racing sims then too, I guess as we get older the console kids will just continue to destroy the simulation market until there is nothing left but Microsofts FS... Not looking forward to that at all.
  16. I have had it working since 1.08... and since everything happens differently everytime you play I can keep on playing it for as long as it takes another dev to create such a brilliant DC. All the DCS missions will be the same over and over and over and over... Get it straight, I LIKE THE DCS SERIES I JUST AM NOT THRILLED THERE IS NO DC FOR SUCH A NICE SIM. Hate me for my opinions, they are only just that, opinions.
  17. Did you not read the post? I never demanded anything from anyone, nor did I say to throw endless sums of money into creating a DC. There will always be at least one developer creating these niche market sims, right now it just happens to be ED. Its like you want to go around in circles or something... FSX is great for practicing holding patterns.
  18. Exactly, but I put that one on the shelf more for flight model inaccuracy and the fact that MP servers wont let certain planes be used due to "fairness". Whatever that means. Also CloD is probably the most content-lacking sim I have ever picked up.
  19. Yeah yeah yeah, you keep talking about how Microprose is gone and so on. The fact remains that after more than a decade F4 is still being used by a large portion of the community. I think the main reason for this IS the DC, and that no one else has tried to create such an(what word can I use that you wont try to tear down?) immersive experience. In DCS currently there is zero immersion outside of the cockpit. To say that the company will fail merely from trying to build a DC with F4's scale is just foolishness since it could be developed seperately from other DCS releases and then integrated when it is ready. No one is going to bash the company for trying something so complex, and also something the community as a whole is crying out for. No matter how buggy it is on release I would still support such an endeavor because it is the best way to create total immersion in a modern flight sim. Or any flight sim for that matter. Its fiscal suicide to create something that everyone wants? Surely not if its done right...I can wait, just saying this is definitely something we all want to see. It seems your only argument is that the last company that tried a true DC is now gone, so why should anyone else try. What if the Wright brothers looked at Davinci's drawings and said, "Well thats it then, he tried and failed so why bother?" You see where that argument leads? I'll go ahead and let you have this one though, you win. I concede defeat to whatever cause you are currently defending with your arguments to my posts. I still am not sure what that is...:joystick: And really, my grammar? C'mon man, tear down everything I post but leave some ridiculous grammar and spelling contest out of it. Shall I peruse through your posts and correct all the misspellings and grammatical errors for you? Ridiculous.
  20. How do I register in the multiplayer section of DCS? Everytime I try with different user names it always says "Cant register". Am I doing something wrong?
  21. Didnt I purchase a consumer product? I dont fly for the USAAF, I fly for the Microsoft AF. Just letting it be known that many in the community want a DC...I could care less about what the military wants in a sim since I dont work for them. And neither do must of us playing this sim right now. There was no attack made here, I suppose I could say the same to him as well. Of course I dont have the benefeit of being a forum moderator that can throw my weight around anytime someone says something I dont like:( Back to the DC... Yesterday I flew a mission in the Devils Cross campaign and on RTB I noticed the airport nearest my base had been attacked. Two whole buildings had been blown up. The next mission, which took place the next morning, these buildings were back again like nothing ever happened. I lol'd and thought of the F4 DC again. Lets put all the systems simulation and whatnot aside and look at the CCC, Supply and Airfields as simulated in F4. In F4 if you bow something up it is gone from the campaign for good, or at least until reasonable time has passed and it could be replaced. Destroy an early warning radar and the enemy loses high alt. radar coverage in that area. Destroy a supply depot and the enemy units will not be supplied or reinforced so quickly. Crater a runway and the planes stationed there are grounded, freeing up resources to be used doing something besides defending against airborne aircraft. Sure, all this might be useless to the military but I purchased a consumer product. Whats more realistic, a campaign where blown up buildings are rebuilt like new in less than a day or a campaign where blown up shit stays blown up and all the factors of Logistics, supply, CCC and even production are factored in to the replacement of destroyed units. Remember, while you may be a military contractor and use that knowledge to build superior aircraft models there is still alot more to consider when selling to the consumer. We want it to be accurate, yes, but we also want it to be fun and immersive. I think you guys have the fun part worked out, just give us the immersion and I will shut up,lol. Anyways, no disrespect intended to anyone and I apologize if I was offensive. I would like the same respect afforded anyone else, and gladly give that respect back. RTB.
  22. I never said ED was lazy, obvious fanboy is obvious. Perhaps the DC in F4 was screwed up, but its not neccesarily the execution that made it great so much as the concept. This series is called Digital Combat Simulator, to simulate combat you should create a conflict and then drop the player into it as a very small cog in a large wheel. Falcon4 created a war, not just an aircraft and then some cheesy scripted missions around it. If you cant see the beauty in the F4 DC then, you my friend, are completely blind. I dont mean to be condescending but to have some guy whos probably half my age tell me I dont know what I'm talking about, especially a forum moderator and tester, really makes me wonder if the choices ED is making arent being steered in the wrong direction by the wrong people. Dont get me wrong, DCS is brilliant in its own right but a true DC could only make something this good that much better. That is all. Keep up the good work guys and listen to your community, we write the checks for the guy who writes the checks after all.
  23. SA-8...I meant SA-9 and SA-11, much harder to contend with. Sorry if I go back to Falcon4 for alot of stuff, it has been THE bastion of realism in flight sims for years so its hard to break habits learned from it. Really though its the fantastic campaign engine that makes it so good. How do you handle these situations? If you loiter long anough will a friendly SEAD flight deal with the threats or is staying out of range the best option?
  24. Standard tactics against Russian missiles of many kinds is to put the missile perpendicular to the aircraft and pop chaff..This alone breaks the lock of many of them. Of course coming from Falcon 4 I dont really have faith that ED has modeled the various weapon systems so accurately as that sim. The problem with using terrain masking is this puts you in harms way of IR Manpads and ZSU fire. A bit more stand-off capability would be nice, but then this IS a mud punching sim more than anything. I will try the tactic of staying just outside the range of the SA-8's and see if I can stil get the job done. More suggestions are always welcome.
  25. First campaign, fourth or fifth mission in when you have to cover the retreat. I'm just going to try staying out of range of the missles and carry only Mavs to prevent JTAC from asking me to hit the targets with CBU's. You would have to go pretty high to get out of range of an SA-11, doesnt really seem feasable. Given the A-10's role you would think the AGM-88 would be standard fare on the A-10 wing...Go figure. Perhaps there is a dedicated SEAD flight and I am just beating it to the IP? It seems like the only tactic is to standoff and hope the enemy armor comes into range while the mobile SAMs remain stationary. Since once a SA-9 or 11 fires at you its pretty much a done deal I guess this is the only option. What I wouldnt give for a Falcon 4 style dynamic campaign where you can see every flight tasking and know whos gonna be on your side and what their mission is... All the pretty graphics in the world cant make up for the lack of information and depth in the A-10 campaigns. If they built an engine like that they could use it for at least a decade and make it compatible with every aircraft they decide to make, all while increasing depth, realism and immersion ten-fold. One can only hope...
