  1. Friggin awesome, stuff like this IS worth the time taken to do it right.
  2. A complete waste of time.
  3. Really? I'm completely bored with it already...But I have been flight simming for ages. I guess my expectations are just too high for the gaming/sim industry anymore.
  4. Who cares about ATC in this sim? There not enough traffic to even worry about it... Things like making ATC work are a waste of time in my opinion, time that could be spent working on a DC. I forget who said it a few posts ago but it was something along the lines of "flying the same mission 3 times over again isnt very realistic", THANK YOU! Made my point exactly. Of course there was the immediate response of "actually that is pretty realistic, blah blah blah something about how it was realistic". Clearly no matter what good points are made for having a DC built the fanbois of the current system will defend it till death. There is what, ONE good campaign released with the sim, the other two are a joke. Make more(good) campaigns and I will shut up about it, until I have beaten those campaigns with no deaths in about 2-3 days worth of play and then come back here to bitch about the DC again. I am not saying I'm right about any of this, just voiceing my opinion. I dont mind being the DC fanboi punching bag for you folks, all my comments get beat down while others with similiar arguments get praise. I dont mind, I'm not going away until I actually have something interesting to do in the DCS series besides blow up the same tanks/vehicles in the same spot over and over again. Whew! DC for the win!
  5. Active Sky Evo here... And I have deja-vu, this same argument has happened before about why Microprose went under. I'm sure there are many factors involved, Microprose was a fairly large studio for the time and I dont think the problems with Falcon had anything major to do with it. If you were to take one word to describe the cause it would have to be "Hasbro". They were responsible for the dismantling of Microprose, nothing more. The argument of why it happened is irrelevant in this discussion, what is relevant is that the Falcon creators made something that created more immersion in a combat flight sim than any other developer ever dreamed. Regardless of the status of the company that made it many years ago something remains to be said of the fact that it is still around and still used by many thousands, certainly more than the DCS series currently. Why is that? Graphics? Hardly. Sound? Umm, no. Systems modelling? Not really. In fact DCS wins in all of these areas, yet still falls behind a 20 year old sim(well, not quite, you know what I mean) in number of users. The only explanation has to be the feeling created from actually being IN the simluated war that the Falcon DC put you into. I know its the reason I still use it and the flight models arent so bad either. You still miss my point regarding the development costs/ payoff from creating a DC. You state that the time creating the DC would be better spent making more DCS:"give me your 60 bucks please" and I dont believe that to be true. Develop a nice DC where all future(perhaps even current and past if possible) DCS titles can be incorporated into the DC and suddenly you have thousands of Falcon users (and newcomers alike) putting down that old dinosaur and picking up DCS. They buy the DCS planes to fly in the DCS campaign, maybe one of them, maybe all of them. Hell, if the DC was really something to behold you could even charge for that too. I think the dev costs would be far outweighed by the added income this would generate. If you build it they WILL pay! Of course there are risks, dropping out of Harvard to make some odd-ball program called Windows was risky too. So please, lets cease the statements about one company being around and another being gone, what really matters is does ED have the balls to give it a shot?
  6. The same place DCS would be if it weren't for military contracts.:megalol:
  7. Is it really? Cause I never noticed any changes in weather during a mission.
  8. I have owned A-10 for not very long now and am pretty much done with it, completed the two campaigns that actually work and find myself with nothing left to do. All in all DCS is very boring, yet I still play Falcon after all these years. Why? Because nothing ever happens the exact same way twice in the DC and it remains fun to play over and over again. This is the only relevant argument for a DC in DCS. Making it happen is up to people with far more knowledge of programming than myself but the fact remains that it needs to happen one way or another. At least it needs to happen for me to continue to support future DCS titles. 60 bucks for what I got this time is really kind of a let down. Make the DC, period. Make it so that all future DCS titles can be incorporated into it, perhaps even make the DC itself a payware download so those that dont want it, "because of all the bugs it is sure to have on release", dont have to have it. Is it a large an perhaps expensive undertaking? Yes. Will it take away from the deveopment of other projects? Probably. Will it make the entire DCS series better as a whole and make future DCS releases far better products with far greater replayability and immersion? Definitely. Did Microprose achieve a DC with ancient technology that rivals any efforts made today? Absolutely. Will I buy anymore DCS sims without a DC? NO, not ever! I digress from this discussion, I'm off to do some flying in FSX. At least the weather is dynamic in that...:music_whistling:
  9. I just bought the cougar MFD's from amazon for 60 bucks with shipping. I only use one monitor but plan on upgrading to a 3-screen eyefinity setup soon, this will just be for the main view from the cockpit. For those thinking it is a waste to have these things because there is no screen in them I will only say that using the mouse to click things on the screen is really a pain in the butt compared to just using your throttle hand to click the MFD buttons. Screen or not these will definitely add some cool factor and make you more efficient in the cockpit. Some 8" monitors to velcro these to would also be nice, but they seem expensive as I havent found any for under 150 bucks.
  10. I wish you could slap certain people out of your posts, know what I mean?:music_whistling:
  11. Why did you land on a road instead of RTB? You still had a good engine, pull fire handle and the extinguisher and fly it home. Or am I mistaken?
  12. None of this relates to the topic at hand, or at least the topic that was at hand... MANPADS are not a problem, never really have been as they are easily decoyed. Its the friggin telephone pole sized SAMs that concern me, SA-8s, 9's , and everything else up through 13. Have you ever encountered an SA-10 in this sim? Supposedly these things can use semi active homing and have the ability to use nearby search radars for guidance. All you will see is a small blip on the RWR when it launches and then another when it is on its final few miles to your aircraft. Assuming it is modeled correctly the SA-10 is frightnening due to this ability and the only way I know of to counter it is to get some what lucky and see that first launch indication and then find some cover from any and all radar in the vicinity. Makes the SA-13 I mentioned seem like a childs toy really. Fortunately I have yet to encounter an SA-10 in A-10C...though I have a feeling that wont last long.;)
  13. 2km? This is about 6000 ft, you would be able to see most any aircraft at that altitude if you had at least a general idea of where they are. Keep this on topic, it is about how to defeat various SAM systems in accordance with how they work in the sim. Theres no point in arguing about what it can and cant do since that probably isnt going to change.
  14. I'm pretty sure this particular mission is broken, I noticed that a large bridge had been destroyed and civilian traffic was piled up on either side oerhaps preventing the units from getting where they had to go. Then something really weird happened. I lost all control of the sim and the screen began to stretch itself out into infinity. I tried to take a screenshot but it didnt work, this was very strange. It didnt cause a crash and I still had sound but I have never seen anything like this before in any sim or game. It has moved me on to mission 4-2-0 so I'll just keep going I guess.
  15. Hmm, my buddies in Yucaipa, CA run this site. I'm close friends with all the Loaded Garage guys. Brandon who runs the space agancy thing is cool too. Nothing fantastic here but there is some good music to the satellites orbiting on infared camera and stuff. Check it out! DeltaMagnumForce.com
  16. I was wondering what the parameters for success are in this mission. The briefing says to support the advance of 2 companys to a certain point and then 1 company to another point. JTAC reports no further tasking available after killing a few tanks so I was wondering do i just fly around until the ground units get to where they are supposed to go? Please let me know, if you know.:helpsmilie:
  17. I've never had the GAU-8 problem you are describing, all I can say is make sure you are in GUNS mode on the HUD and make sure the range is good (the outside line on the gun piper will begin winding down counterclockwise), put the target dead center on the little dot and fire. Dead target for me every time. A standard CBU-97 doesnt need and cant even use a laser designation, it is a dumb bomb. To drop one in CCRP mode is quite easy; select a CBU from the inventory, find the target with the TGP(the laser can be turned on or off, it doesnt matter) set the TGP to "point" mode and then fly level straight at the target until the release cue begins to drop. As the release cue starts dropping press and hold the weapon release button until the bomb pickles. Since the CBU is unguided it will depend on how straight you flew into the target and the winds aloft that will determine your accuracy. I try to use the CCIP mode with dumb bombs, this increases accuracy greatly, though you will probably get down around 5000-4000 ft. during the bombing run. Dont hesitate if you have more questions.
  18. Hanging the flaps out doesnt cause a "nose up tendency", it increases lift which makes the aircraft "float" a bit above your path before lowering the flaps. The actual attitude of the aircraft shouldnt change so much as the amount of lift it has. I dont understand the difficulty in landing these things, you have a HUD that tells you exactly where the aircraft is going to go, airspeed, altitude... I guess I've been doing this for too long.:pilotfly:
  19. I land at around 150-140 knots most of the time, the flaps shouldnt come up until you are exiting the runway. Just get it on the ground as close to the proper end of the runway as possible and apply full wheel brakes and you will stop like a champ every time. If you come in too hot you can also pop the speed brakes immediately on touchdown, just like the airlines do(though most large passenger jets have automatic speedbrakes nowadays). The ILS is completely unnecessary unless the weather is so bad you cant see the runway lights from a ways off. Keep the true aircraft heading piper on the part of the runway you want to touchdown on and at 50 feet cut the power all the way off and give it a little flare to ease it down. Aim for 140 knots with full flaps and its perfect everytime. Biggest thing I can tell you though, practice, practice, practice. Once you've landed a 747 in a 32 knot crosswind with moderate windshear this fighter plane stuff seems trivial.:smilewink:
  20. It was just a joke dude...I'm going to start carrying a couple of GBU-12's and make sure I scour the battlefield for hidden SAM units, sneaky bastards:thumbup:
  21. True, but those GPS guided munitions are expensive;)
  22. The SA-13 has a range of 5km, this equals roughly 16k feet, so its possible to get hit at 12k I suppose. Depending on the slant range... I recieved an MWS warning for the SA-8 I took out but never got anything on the SA-13 launch. CMS is always set to AUTO when entering a hostile area. I prefer altitude over terrain masking unless I am carrying rockets to deal with threats at very low altitudes and short ranges. My usual loadout is 6 AGM's and 4 CBU-97's so I generally stay high until I think its clear to roll in with the CBU's. I cant find the key map for dispensing chaff and flares under a manual or semi-auto program, can you tell me where to find it in the key commands list? Thanks.
  23. So I'm coming in to attack some tanks in one of the campaign missions and I get an SA-8 on the threat reciever. No big deal, I've had that 8 locked up on the TGP since recieving the JTAC data, he was easy to spot a ways behind the main assault force. I fire a Mav at it just I get a good lock and about 4 seconds later I see him launch a missle at me. I dont evade since the SA-8 relies on onboard vehicle guidance. The Mav hits and destroys him and his missle flys into the dirt. No more AA missle threats in the area, nothing significant anyhow, I pat myself on the back and begin to roll in on the armor. Boom, Boom, Boom! My aircraft is rocked by 3 hard hits at about 12k feet. No recovery from it I am forced to eject. I look around under the parachute and dont see any Migs or anything flying around so I think WTH was that? In the mission debrief it says it was an SA-13 got me. Damn, how can you handle these things? They are IR missles with a range of about 16k feet so they will not show up on the RWR and unless you are lucky you wont find them with the TGP with any regularity(though I do find the SA-8's easily since they like to be somewhat close to the main aussault groups). I suppose staying up around 18k feet will work, but then how can you accurately drop a CBU on the armor? There is no SEAD support in this mission so I am kinda stuck. Fly around at 18k feet whilst looking for these things? Also I noticed a problem with the radios in simple mode. If I contact JTAC I can not use any of the radio menus anymore until I cancel the vulch. Then I can contact my wingmen again. I would have to cancel the JTAC and then order my wingmen and then contact JTAC again, kind of a pain. I think I;m just going to stick with the Georgian Hammer Campaign since thats the only one with any measure of realism when it comes to SEAD, CAS and CAP aircraft flying with you in the mission.

Helicopters make me feel so helpless on the battlefield, give me a fast mover any day. I'll be passing this one up.
  25. I was wondering if there was a specific room where I could post tracks for the community to view. Thanks. Edit: Ha ha, I just found it...sorry.
