IMO Enemy Territory is the best shooter around! It's really amazing that it is free.

Another all time favourite is Liero:

Funniest mutiplayer split screen game ever made :D.

it doesn't work because 99% of all games with any sort of protection have been cracked. How is 99% "not working"?
100% of that 99% wasn't using StarForce.
So that argument is invalid.
Panzers, Colin McRae 2005 and Toca Racedriver 2 are the games with SF 3.0 that I know of and which all got cracked. HL 2 too (Steam based though).
I made a post with the proof that those exist, but it got deleted, which is perfectly understandable. Sorry mods, I only wanted to back up that fact. Do some research and you will find the proof.
So this leads me to the conclusion that this CP will be cracked too. Maybe I'm wrong. But this would be the first secure CP.
So the only positive thing is the delay of a warez version created by the CP. And I really doubt this is worth all the fuzz.
All this is only business view.

Punctuation is your friend.
Ok I got your point. But all this is not about Big Brother I think. You agree to the EULA, so be ready to get analysed.
2 points left:
- Can I still play the game in 2 years after ED or the support is gone? (Falcon 4)
- Security of your system.
Those 2 points have nothing to do with Big Brother.

@britgliderpilot
alright. after all it's about flaming cliffs not flaming threads  .
@Dutch60
AFAIK SF uses strong cryptography. That's why SF is so hard to crack. Not because it uses a system service. The executable is encrypted. Thus it needs to be decrypted by SF before it can be executed.
I hope this is not total nonsense :D .

either put up, or shut up.
Fortunately, I don't live in those parts of the world.
EDIT: By analogy, put up with my concerns or shut up.

I'm ok with the registration as such, but there's still a major problem. What will happen if ED is no more or stops to support LO?
I only know a few games where the support has lasted more than 1-2 years.
Ah I hate this situation. It's a dilemma. I want to support ED and I want to play LO where and when I like. What I don't want is ED closing their doors or a game which I can put into the dustbin after a year because I can't register anymore.
Think I'll just wait a while and stick with 1.02 for now.
Thank you for the info. Let's see what ppl do.
-
I don't exactly understand what you mean. The registration process in the release is still unknown. So I guess you have to wait till the game is being released.
For now you only have to be registered on the site to download the demo.

As a customer, I would like a better performing Lockon. period.
(The very strange thing is that I get the highest FPS on a Pentium M system (probably the 2 Mb cache does the trick).
To bad for a very, very good game indeed: I truly admire the devs, and certainly the su-25 AFM is really nice.
Ok I got your point now... nonetheless I bet it's not the 2mb cache but the graphic card which makes the difference ;).
I agree that Lock On has a few performance issues. It's not too well optimized (f.ex. the heat blur). I would get angry if Lock On had the same budget as Doom 3 or HL 2, but it hasn't. It's a game for a minority. Either put up with it or don't buy it. IMO you can't blame the devs on this.
-
Re: performance enhancements?
In that sense, the demo did not convince me: on a 2.8 PIV with 1 GB RAM and ATI X300 it is unplayably slow. I had to edit the mission so as to drop a lot of the ground units to be able to fully appreciate the new AFM.
Sorry to tell you, but the X300 is actually a backstep compared to previous low cost cards by ATi. I wouldn't even consider it a gaming card.
http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/atifreeforall/UT04colossus.htm
If you don't have enough money for a new card, just grab a 9500 pro or 9700 on ebay. You get those at really low prices and they are great graphic cards even for some time to come.
-
Everything has been said in this thread: http://forum.lockon.ru/viewtopic.php?t=3393 and the devs gave a sensitive answer here: http://forum.lockon.ru/viewtopic.php?t=3443.
I think there's nothing new to be told. This is your personal view and only future will tell how customers really think.

Re: Pougachev's Cobra
:(... any change in 1.1? In some videos like f.ex. Maximum G, I saw those 180° missile shots (180° backwards, shoot and turn back). Any detail on how these work?
At medium speed around 500-600 kph I get a 180° by pressing "K" whereas at low speed it just flips to 90° and back. So the tail slide actually only works in between those two.
-
I searched both forums, looked into the manual but couldn't get any information.
I only get a 90° turn by using the cobra move, but f.ex. I don't get a 180° nor a tail slide followed by a back flip. What I'm looking for is some "manual" on Pougachev's Cobra. What is the optimal speed? How do I handle the aircraft? What are the physics? What actually happens by pressing 'K'?
Thank you for any help.

I use the Saitek X45 in combination with Logitech Wingman pedals. Yeah, I know it's a cheap solution, but can't spend more on a hotas. Btw, there's no option for me in the poll or did I miss something?
I only have a little problem with the calibration of the Saitek X45. One Axis has a smaller deadzone in one direction. And since the deadzones are symmetric in Lock On, this sucks a little (any help appreciated :D).
-
Same for Colin McRae 2005 btw. SF 3.0... was available on P2P networks only 5 days after release.
I know because I just compared both dates on the official homepage and some p2p linking site.
-
I want a VISA option and I would buy the CD. (for double the price even).
Since we're at the copy protection thing again ;). I only want a guarantee that I can play this game any time I want in the future. That means no dependence on any company for the activation everytime I want to install the game on a new computer and no dependence on 3rd party drivers (which may not work on 64-bit computers or Windows Longhorn).
-
It's their first release. And who has to worry about his next salary after all. We should at least be patient.
But I agree that they ought to change it into something like "soon".
-
You have to put things right here. Every SINGLE player mode of all games has been cracked so far but not all MULTIPLAYER modes.
That's why f.ex. you can play HL2 in single player but not in multiplayer with the cracked version.
The reason is simple. To crack a single player game you only have to disable the local copy protection check. But in multiplayer you would have to disbable the key check of the server which handles multiplayer connections. Thus you have to crack the server not the clients.
That's why I believe the best protection is a multiplayer mode with a centralized server (like good old Counter Strike).
IMO this is still true for Starforce even as it is more complex due to its encryption feature.
-
No, this guy is probably from Germany or France... ;)
heh... now you got me :P :)
-
This is really great customer support and I hope ED gets rewarded for this. I don't care about the delay. Just take your time as long as you can afford it.
-
Is this guy from Texas? :D

Windows is not secure and yet I'll bet you run it every single day. The number of security upgrades is constant. That's life.
Come on, let's see some facts.
I'm one of those few who say that Windows XP is quite secure. I have no active antivirus and no firewall. I only use the f-prot dos version to check from time to time and I NEVER had any worm on my computer. Only on my parent's computer.
But IMO only because I never used Outlook, Internet Explorer, Media Player or MS Office. Without those programs Windows is very safe for home use IMO. Instead I use Thunderbird, Firefox (also Opera at some time), Open Office and bsplayer.
Now I still have to see if this is true for SF.
-
What on earth would they find so fascinating about you or me?.
Market research. What hardware do you have? Do you run emule? What do you share? How much do you play the game? The main interest would be the relation between those results.
Ok this is paranoid. But it's not like an internet user is of no interest for the business. And again, some would say this is ok and some not.
-
Duh. Lots of ppl who still dont understand. I feel that I have to say this. For you slow people:
Installing SF with a demo is one of the protection routines!!
This is done to prevent hackers from using demo files to crack the release version. So dont get all excited over SF being installed with the demo.
What ppl don't understand is why ED didn't tell us that part? So ppl who don't like Starforce wouldn't have installed it. Ppl don't care why ED used Starforce in the demo.
-
Let's remove our tinfoil hats for a second. Just what did this copy protection routine do to you or your system that is so evil? Please provide some specifics.
This has nothing to do with evil or good.
The debate is about taking a risk or not. The nature of taking a risk is that you have very little facts. The feeling about a risk is often based on PERSONAL experience.
IMO nobody can prove that SF is secure nor that it is unsecure for now. Now it's your choice whether you want to take a ceratin risk to play a computer game or not. I'm not sure about this one and I'm still thinking about it and gathering information.

Naw, it was perfectly ok, really. I posted names of sites (not links, I'm not that dumb :D), where you get links to illegal files of games on a p2p network. I don't think they deleted my post because of my opinion.
IMO, nothing to worry about.
