the team is investigating, if you have short track replays please attach them

    thank you

I will try to recreate the issue. Unfortunately no luck in SP. Will try a MP mission.

EDIT: I just added the tracks from the linked thread of the AIM-9 seekers losing lock, but so far cannot reproduce them turning right randomly like in the latest video. Hopefully they are related, but I'll keep trying to reproduce the uncontrolled turning.

Likely an ED topic. The tone is based on the signal strength reported through the DCS SDK. This part of the Sidewinder logic is controlled by ED.

(I personally dont know enough about the weapon to comment on this being correct behavior or not)

Ah good point, I keep forgetting to post weapon issues to the ED general forum as well.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll report to there too.

  3. I have noticed that the AIM-9s tend to have intermittent growling during maneuvers. It appears that this happens if you roll the F-4 relative to the target. In the first track, you will notice that despite the AIM-9J being uncaged, it will still lose lock when the F-4 is maneuvered. The other track shows the AIM-9J losing lock if the target is flying straight and the F-4 rolls side to side, implying the lock stability is a function of bank angle relative to the target.

I believe this is the case for the AIM-9B and AIM-9M, but I have yet to test them. I will attach tracks for other AIM-9 versions when I find time.

Please let me know if there are other tests I should perform.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean. I did test this track, it works, that's why I attached it. If you have a few minutes, take a look at the track until my aircraft takes-off because the vibrating F-4 is evident at take-off. The rest of the track isn't that relevant since it's just me flying around and fighting.

Yeah, thanks. Great. It was more a general comment. People often dont know that they can test tracks and then send something in that doesnt work when replayed ingame.

Understood, apologies if my response sounded snippy. I was genuinely confused if I missed something but also I read it back and see it might not sound as polite as I had preferred.

That sounds like you are doing something that requires the use of the HB UI though (for example cold start, crew chief interactions).

Those are not captured by tracks and need to be redone manually while the track plays. Otherwise you are leaving the ground with the engines off, hence the aircraft will want to depart down but then gets teleported back by EDs "move on rails" track-system. Which is what leads to visual jitter.

That would be interesting. Maybe it is, I'll see if I can reproduce it in SP then during cold start. However maybe it's not exactly the same because in the track, the engines do start up, the switches mostly move correctly, the chocks go away, I haven't checked every single switch or setting but the replay seems overall right.

Btw, please make sure you test tracks before sharing them. Most tracks (especially if not short and singleplayer) dont really work and then they arent useful for us. Cheers

    Same issue.

So I never solved this issue by messing with DCS. I reformatted my computer and everything worked. Unfortunately that might be the solution for you too.

Since the last update the right gear door randomily opens in flight. Unsure how to reproduce at the moment.

Have you only seen this on MP? I've tried to reproduce it in a SP mission to no avail. For me it happens randomly but only after landing then taking off again and so far, only online.

But if you've seen it in SP, I'll try landing and taking off over and over offline until I get it.

Iirc the plan was to add one or two of the older pods as well. Especially the ones often used during the Vietnam periods.

Note though that in DCS (currently) you can only say "jamming on/off". So you unfortunately cant model the details and "strength" of the jammer pod.

    +1 for ALQ-101 and ALQ-119!

It's just that sometimes it's strange that I (Jester) don't see a target on the radar, even if it's already closer than the aim7 launch range) So I'm thinking of not taking them with me at all. But I get it, guys, radar really isn't this plane's strong suit. All hope for aim9)

I strongly suggest you ask him to narrow scan, if you're not already. I've don't often encounter a problem and have found MiG-21's online at 20+ nm. Additionally, bind some coarse and/or fine gain controls from the back seat to the front to push Jester in the right direction. I will sometimes, though not too often, put gain up especially at higher altitudes so he can find something then he'll focus on it and change the gain accordingly.

Also you have to be a bit careful with how you model stuff. Just because you look down and/or are at low altitude, doesn't mean you're dominated by clutter to the point of not being able to target or track something. The F-4 radar is a good example.

Agreed. The radar is getting a rework but I'm more concerned about the missile itself. I don't think it can track even if the radar is locked if at very low altitude with all that clutter except maybe if the target is super close.

  11. Is there any word on the fact that the R530F EM is acting like a LDSD missile? My understanding is that because it has no way of distinguishing targets from clutter, unlike the CW-guided AIM-7, it should be quite ineffective at low altitudes against low targets. Right now, it's really seal-clubbing in the PvP servers. Does Aerges have any capability to change this or is it all on ED?

If I misunderstand, please correct me.

    Hey guys,

I just started my Phantom multiplayer experience on Heatblur's ECW server. However, I definitely need some A2A dogfight training. While I love the ECW server's realistic experience, getting a training experience is difficult due to the long startup and flight times.

Can you guys recommend a friendly server for Cold War A2A training (e.g. only Gen 3 aircraft, Fox 1) with hot start and maybe even air spawn?

    Many thanks in advance!

Closest thing I can think of would be Mobettameta's Cold War server. It has air spawn "arenas" of guns only, fox 2 only, and it might have an arena with both fox 1 and fox 2.

The problem is, I don't usually ever see people on there but if you hop on their discord (https://discord.gg/guY6mmCVSg), you might be able to rally someone to practice fighting with.

Hot starts are rare in most other PvP servers.

just my 2 cents, but your track appears to show a head on merge with an opponent only equipped with rear aspect Magic-1 missiles with no guns. the defensive break followed by an attempt to maneuver to your rear aspect appears to be correct behavior to me (he needs to be behind you to shoot that missile. try swapping his load out to an all-aspect missile to see if his behavior changes)

Well that's only part of the problem because a MiG-21 with R-3R's will do the exact same thing.

Furthermore, I tell the AI to not react of use any countermeasures and it does both anyway. Regardless of its loadout, it should not be doing anything to defend.

Another track attached in a brand new mission, in case the old one was corrupt. Exactly the same issue.

When you add any aircraft on the map in mission editor, the aircraft have a role (CAS, SEAD, e.t.c.). You can see the role on the top part of the right properties-menu when you click on the aircraft. On the bottom of the right proprties-menu, you can see a long button. The button is clicked by default and it shows the additional menu which can be used to add some speciffic tasks and behaviours for the aircraft.

When you choose an aircraft role, you can see that the aircraft role sets some global tasks which have a "-" sign in this additional menu on the bottom. These tasks are spreaded through all aircraft's waypoints. The tasks are actually sets a global behaviour of the aircraft (set it's AI). If you want the aircraft to perform an exact tasks, you should delete all the global tasks and then set your tasks. Just remember that some aircraft roles may not allow you to set some tasks for it. So you should change the role for a speciffic tasks that you want. Just remember to delete the global tasks when you change the role. Otherwise aircraft will behave by it's role and perform some operations that you don't want it to do at all. And it can really drive you crazy, because you won't be able to achieve what you want in your mission.

I double checked and that did not work. No matter what, the bandit defends, always with flares, always without firing, and always to the left. Track attached.

  15. I set up a mission facing a MiG-21 with no gun ammo and just 2 missiles and ordered it to fire at will, fire a missile at my aircraft at min range and to not react to an attack or use any countermeasures. The MiG spawns in when I enter a zone.

However, it does exactly the opposite of all these things. Please see the attached track and video.

I am currently unable to launch DCS today so I couldn't make a track but as soon as I can, I will attach one.
