  1. I've had a devil of a time getting tws to work. In most cases the missiles to to about 2 miles from their targets and just fall in the sea. I've thought about notching and run different scenarios and this was not a factor in most of the occurances. I watched some videos and read about the limits of the radar gimble... but I've never seen a ... I'm blanking.. I think it was called a centroid that shows up as an x and provides best heading to maintain radar picture of targets. The only thing I can think of is that I'm out of vertical alignment (different altitude from target) or the I'm overriding pitbull by holding on the targets but ... I'm not sure how this would be fixed since different missiles will have different pitbull times. Does relative speed matter ? I've often slowed because I'm afraid that I'll lose lock due to the narrowing of the cone as range decreases.
  2. Throughout all of this, the flaps have been set up. never got to the point that messed with flaps in an active way. I mentioned the bindings and how I interact with them. wing sweep is on the stick, I lower flaps with F and raise them with the clickpit. Never touched them before this occurred.
  3. I've only used f for flaps and this seems to be bound to the main flap lever. I did notice thst after going back and checking things again, thst if I command 20 degrees and push forward on my wing sweep, manual is engaged regardless of it not being the actual binding for manual mode. Might have inadvertently engaged manual in this way, but I'm not sure why overspeed in this case would lead to lowered flaps, rather than just stuck retracted flaps. I'll do some testing I check back in. In practice ive always raised flaps with the lever and lowered them with F which I believe Is the default binding, but in the scenario mentioned its a bit of a nonfactor in that I'm not touching anything but wing sweep. I was just flying straight and level went to extend wings and it sounded like a folly artists set up shop in my aircraft. Had an immediate uncommanded climb and the wheel caution light lit up. I'll post an update when I can. Thank you for the ideas.
  4. just kind of illustrates the dangers relying a single airframe its a bit of a flying LCS... a good idea that survives funding cuts but has all the missions of those things that were cut tacked onto it so eventually your sports car or offroader eventually becomes a minivan sort of contraption. The F-35 meets a lot of goals but it also completely defeats the original purpose of the program... which was to be cost effective. There is no incentive to be cost effective if you already know that you are the one game in town and there are no other alternatives. SEC NAV Lehman ran overlapping procurement programs because he could always say... hey we have other options.
  5. I can't really tell whats' going on here I have my wing sweep in auto mode... as you do. This is supposed to change the sweep based on airspeed. You can manually command sweep, and there are two bars one for commanded and one for actual... because the aircraft wont let you put the wings in a dangerous position or so i thought. Upon getting fuel warning i decided to try to land at an airfield to refuel. I ordered the wings forward to bleed speed think i was going around 400 knots or so ... Thinking " well im not at landing speed but at least ill get the the wings forward a bit and that will help." The flaps somehow auto deploy and break. the knob was in the lower position.. no input from me. I dont know if this is a feature i've missed or a bug. I didn't find anything mentioning auto flaps, only spoilers and that was associated with the DLC which i have not used yet. I am in the Caucasus map where I have set up a sort of testing ground to try new things and this has happened several times. I usually land at sochi-adler which I made a blue airfield. They will refuel me and rearm, but the repair command does not seem to work. so 1. mystery auto flap deployment 2. repair not working. its entirely possible i missed something, but I did try to read up before i posted and the only thing I came up with was overspeeding the flaps.. but that should not have been possible due to the limiters in auto sweep mode.
  6. I have the premium version on the NXT and its only just usable. I love the joystick but the software is confusing to use. I can tell there is a great deal of customization available... you can change the functions from .. im going to butcher this with my less than precise terms .... you can remap buttons to be toggles like the switches in an aircraft or pressure switches that require constant pressing to to active like a trigger. The throttle is the only truly analog out of the box control. The wheels count as two buttons with up or down rolls counting as button presses and depending on the value attributed to a single button press, the rate of change can be frustratingly slow. In theory you create a profile and upload it into the advice. I've tried to create toggle switches out of f2 f1 and f3 on the joystick basetop to use them as landing gear etc toggles but i've never gotten it to take. the software is the weakest part IMO You can use the built in stuff but VKB is supposed to have a series of NXT extension modules that are not a part of TECS that are supposed to allow a create your own control set up that lacks the fidelity of something like a thrustmaster joystick, but is very customizable. Think tecs is more like premium stand alone. as a lefty I am more or less stuck using the NXT modular stuff since EVERY throttle is right handed.
  7. yep... i just watched a track where I hit the one wire. Not the best, but much better than what was on the track .. which showed me setting up a very nice approach into the ocean. I mean I like the challenge of the carrier landing... but this difficulty is redundant.
  8. I got my first three wire... great i watched the video its was pretty good was about to use external view zoom etc . Watched it again after I had saved the track and im watching a movie of how i changed views during the first watch? is the first watch of a track an editing process where it locks in camera angles and such?
  9. well I gave up and decided forget fancy premade missions and figured i'd just build a special mission from the ground up with supercarrier assets and the right aircraft so there would be no issue with the sim identifying which aircraft it belonged to... silly me. when I got to the aircraft placement screen in this video ... i dont even have that option max zoom is just a vanilla carrier icon without the detail to place aircraft etc. I don't know if its me or database error but i seem to be Gilligan in a land populated by professors.
  10. I've been messing around with the community A4E and using it to train for carrier operations. I have edited a mission to use the A4 and F14. The mission was originally set up for the F18/14 combo. This mission does not appear in the A4 mission lists, but i can navigate to it using the editor and launch it from there. I have had mixed success with watching tracks after the fact. More often than not they just show whatever I was saw at the time rather than allowing me view from the outside and say the lso stand for the carrier. In this case the aircraft can be watched from the outside, but track plays out differently than it did in the real thing. When i exit the log has all the events that occurred in the actual flight but in watching the track, it never gets to any of them because it shows me hitting blast deflector... which i don't recall happening in the mission. I'm not sure what's going on.
  11. Thanks. I actually think it was your misson set that found. for nav and such. nice work. the new A4 version has made some of the instruction obsolete. The air craft no longer rolls off the deck.
  12. I have been trying to get my skills up to the point where I can work my way into the carrier using all the proper let down procedures. Alas I seem to spawn on the old carrier no matter what I do. I have been using the community A4 mod as well as the F14, but neither seem to load the right carrier model. Are there any missions out there the specifically are built to test the new supercarrier and its interaction systems? I found one that was meant for the 14/18 and was described as a playground of sorts.. but nothing for the A4 and the 14/18 mission didn't even show up when I tried to sub it into the A4 menu. absent the T-45, the A4 seems to be the next best thing for training. I have the F14 but that is a comparatively more complicated aircraft and I am more about the pattern and protocol and getting that down right.
  13. have similar issue. I've been working my way through making bindings for the 51 and 47. neither is binded so far as i can tell, but the throttle on my gladiator NXT works for the 51 but not for the 47... without any action on my part. The throttle does not show up as an input when i use it in the binding process for the throttle up/down in the engine controls. i'll check this throttle axis ...
  14. I've not been able to duplicate inputs on the mapping page. My gladiator nxt pro has a two stage trigger and I just wanted both stages to be machine guns but binding the second one removed the binding from the first. Are there different rules for different input types that allow duplication?
  15. I think this same thing is occurring with me. I'll have to check, but I don't know why it would be p47 specific. I have a gladiator nxt stick and aside from mapping the throttle and such to the relevant controls on the base,I did nothing and incurred no control penalties in the p-51. In the the 47 it is very pronounced. I could not trim it out. In my case there was both a left roll and nose down tendency. I'll check the axis assignments when I get home though.
  16. Hmm... I saw no change either way. It worked in the familiarization training mission. Not so much after that.. but maybe that's because the pressure was being provided by the engine
  17. P38 or mosquito .. maybe leaning more towards mosquito because there are so many things you can do with it.. night fighter fighter bomber, heavy fighter etc.
  18. when I went back into it, I managed to get into green, by holding left mouse, but when trying to open the cowl flaps there was no change in pressure and they did not open, but attempting to close them immediate bled it to zero... also without change because presumably they were already closed
  19. I have been messing around with DCS for a bit, after building my first PC in a long while. I have no joy stick yet etc, but have managed to get the p-51 variants and the frogfoot in the air etc. I purchased the p-47 because it seemed an intermediate departure that would introduce me to more features and such without getting overwhelmed with MFD etc. I was working my way through the start up lesson and the hydraulic pressure needed to open the cowl flaps was not there... so i used the pump. when operated, this led to the guage needle jumping up into the green and then dropping to zero. When I say jump, what i mean is that the needle appeared in the green seemingly having skipped the left half of the gauge. I might be doing something wrong though. I was going through the lesson... so I don't think I did anything that would have bled the system. To operate the hand pump i've use left and right mouse to raise and lower the handle. it seems that many controls have predefined stations and that hovering over the control and click left or right mouse cycles through them in different directions. I did one cycle of this, i raised the handled and looked at the gauge... no change except for that jumping needle when raising the handle. No retained pressure that I can tell.
