  1. I'm more of a RTFMWYP kind of guy. Read The Fuggin Manual While You Poop.
  2. For those of you struggling with Mavs does the Hog have a boresight submode to employ them? I haven't played the demo and I'm operating off F16 knowledge but I know that's often my favorite way of using them. Boresight ties the mav seeker head to the FPM so just point the jet at a target and with minimal seeker adjustment you can lock a target, launch and roll out popping a fireworks display of counter measures. Again I apologize if I'm speaking out of school as I haven't flown the DCS hog.
  3. I'm no tactician and this is my opinion but, long story short, use whatever profile gets you the best results without loss. Like said earlier, in a high risk environment you'd likely be forced into performing a low ingress, pop up, identify a target and employ ordinance against it, roll inverted, pull back down to the deck popping flares while you do. For lower risk environments they'll set up a hard deck with which pilots are not allowed to descend below (to prevent lawn darting primarily) effectively allowing pilots to shoot fish in a barrel. Think Desert Storm. Regardless of what employment has been used in the past the employment that would be used now and in the future would be whatever provided the best effectiveness while providing sufficient protection of assets (both human and machine). If the enemy AD is such that you can fly unmolested at angels 5+ and pick out the fish in the barrel then by all means do so. If they are thick then you'll have to sacrifice targeting convenience for the chance to land back at home. Trade offs, aint life full of em!
  4. When you know exactly what all that means.
  5. I wouldn't say it's a mess. FreeFalcon5 is alive and well. Some Win7 64bit + Nvidia guys were suffering for a little bit but Nvidia's new beta drivers seem to have resolved it for them. Me, I've never had a problem with her. Smooth, pretty and most importantly, endless replay value thanks to the campaign(s). Buggy for some to be sure, but certainly not a mess. Truth be told I still pop into OpenFalcon on occasion and run a mission too. Too bad development is dead for that flavor. I figure I'll need a week or so to effectively fly this gorgeous whirly bird, by then I'll have found out if I can enjoy a simulator with scripted missions after having been spoiled so rotten for so long in Falcon with it's living, dynamic campaigns. I truly hope I am still having a blast after a month, because I really like the DCS attention to fidelity! :pilotfly: Now if they'd just develop a DC I'd pre order the next 10 installments today then start naming babies after them ;) In the meantime, there's no law against flying both!
  6. Thanks fellas, I had done something between skimming and reading of the manual for an answer to this very question but didn't succeed. However these posts have explained it perfectly. :book:
  7. Thanks for the response! :) I didn't know there was an AUTO setting for the throttle. Is this realistic or a feature of the sim alone? I don't think I care, just curious. And finally, since I won't be able to check for myself till much later tonight, what's the key command for auto-throttle?
  8. Hello, I'm a brand new BS flyer and being a regular fixed wing virtual flyer (I spend at least an hour a night in FreeFalcon5) you can imagine the learning curve when my aircraft suddenly has high speed, rotating wings... In any event, I'm catching on fairly quickly but I am confused about the collective and engine RPM relationship. When I first got into the cockpit I had my Saitek's throttle control mapped to engine RPM and collective mapped to the slider. This was not ideal and have reversed that mapping since it appears the collective is constantly utilized and requires far more precision. Long story short what do I need to know about engine RPM in the shark? Am I going to be constantly manipulating it or is it more of a set it to max and forget it? With probably 20 minutes or so of actual flight time so far I am able to lift off, tool around the airfield a bit and touch back down, albeit none of it gracefully... :joystick:
  9. I hope they don't do an F16. Not that I don't absolutely love her, but with FreeFalcon, OpenFalcon and Allied Force still alive and well I can't see myself buying it. Two words, dynamic campaign. 10 years and that Falcon community is still so strong and it's because of that campaign. Heck FreeFalcon 5 is releasing it's second patch tonight, that's how beloved that franchise still is and it's heart and soul is the campaign generator. If they release an F16 (any variant) it'll have it's work cut out for it to compete with what's already out there. I'd buy an Apache sim probably, and definitely a dynamic campaign generator for any current DCS product. I couldn't bring myself to actually buy Black Shark even though I followed its development for years because when it came time to whip out my wallet I didn't want to learn Russian avionics to fly in a scripted mission environment, no matter how many triggers there are. Just my two cents. Happy flying to all.
