  1. Since I run a dual boot Win XP Pro SP3 and Win7 Pro I can confirm the problem in both OS's. However I can't get around it in XP so far. I didn't fuss too much and loaded the training missions manually (through the mission button) but thought I'd mention it for what it's worth. Rebooting into Win 7 now to tweak more :) By the by, it does suck to have burned two of my StarForce activations simply due to dual-booting :(
  2. I can confirm it. Fresh install, Win7 32 bit. Got same error regardless of "running as admin". Switched to Full Screen and it works.
  3. When can we expect to see this come to BlackShark?

    Top Gun 2!

Yup, was an accurate documentary of modern flight operations. Just like Iron Eagle was.

    Top Gun 2!

    Talk to me Goose.
  6. Welcome to the world of post cold war budgets. It is far cheaper to modify a platform to a more relevant role than design, build, test, and most of all maintain a brand new, specifically-designed-for-one-role craft every time the battlefield changes.
  7. Couple of things: If you're paused your FPS will skyrocket :) Also, when you're viewing the chopper externally it will also go higher, paused or not. Check it in cockpit while dodging AAA and slewing the Shkval around, that's when you'll want to check ;)
  8. I couldn't agree more when you said you were hesitant to invest in a Russian bird. I was too and in fact after having followed the development of this sim for years I waited after it was released. And I waited a LONG time (finally bought it last week). That said, man was I a fool to do so! What an amazing product! The level of detail is everything they said it would be. I love my Russian 'wop wop wop wop' BlackShark! Kudos to DCS/ED, you guys really are the real deal!
  9. Cute picture, looks like fun too!
  10. I actually wear it fairly frequently, and always in inclement weather. I drive a little turbocharged miata, it's a 2 seat, rear wheel drive sports car for those that don't know what it is. I've had it for years (finally paid it off 5 months ago, woohoo!) and the seatbelt while fairly worthless in that particular car in a serious crash (I'd simply be crushed to death) is actually quite comfortable. Also from a performance driving point of view, has some utility during hard cornering by keeping me firmly in position when flying around the clover-leaf entrance ramps onto the freeway at 55+ mph ;) You're absolutely right though, I complain about the hypocrisy of it all when I know as well as you do that it's simply a revenue booster for the state. Nothing more and nothing less. Oh well, government 98, Fimble 0. :)
  11. Actually yes I have a permit to carry a handgun and there was at the time and currently is a loaded Walther PPK in my glove compartment. :smoke: Cop noticed my permit as I was digging through my wallet for my drivers license, asked me if I was carrying at the time, I said yes, in my glove compartment he asked to see it, I showed him, he said "nice piece", then "have a good day." There's still some freedom left I suppose ;)
  12. Those words literally went through my head the second time
  13. The only risk I face if someone else isn't wearing their belt is if they hit a bridge pylon at 50mph, get ejected from their car via the windshield, fly a laser beam-like trajectory through my windshield and into my lap. That's the risk. One of my favorite parts of freedom was the freedom to be stupid if you so chose. I don't like bureaucrats defining stupid, enacting laws to prevent their idea of it and then forcing me to comply. On a humorous side note bear in mind that it IS in fact LEGAL in Minnesota to operate a motorcycle without a helmet. But forget to buckle up in your 7000 pound SUV and the man shall write you the ticket, for your own safety of course. Government, gotta love it! sigh. In any event, it's clearly too expensive for me to remain a concientous objector (is that how that's spelled?) to this law so I guess I'll be buckling up from here on out. ;)
  14. I had all my ducks in a row to buy the beta A10C, I had the money reasonably isolated from spousal detection and funding was to be a result of a recent expense reimbursement check I received from work. Sneaky bastard I am, I know. Then in the course of two days I received two violations for not wearing a seatbelt. That's right, two, in two days. That's $103 USD x 2. You see recently my state has passed a law making seat belt use mandatory. In addition they made it what they call a "Primary Offense", meaning they can pull you over for that and that alone. They kicked off this exciting new law by setting up checkpoints manned by 6+ squad cars, 12+ well paid salaried officers going door to door at busy intersections. I managed to drive through two of these seatbelt checkpoints (stings so to speak). One on my way to work Tuesday morning in the city I work in and the other on my way home from work in the city I live in. Not having ever seen a damn seatbelt sting before I didn't have the presence of mind to quickly buckle up, thinking instead there was a big accident or something more nefarious ahead. Why on earth the state of Minnesota feels the need to protect me from well... myself I'll never know. If the guy next to me isn't wearing his belt what the hell do I care? It isn't any of my business! What's next, fines for not wearing eye protection when you mow your lawn? Fines for not wearing sunscreen on a sunny, summer day? Long story short, I'll have to live vicariously through you fine folks until next month when I can re-allocate Warthog funds.
  15. That's pretty sweet!
  16. mmmmmm beer Makes me think of every night when I'm firing up the engines of my Ka-50 and while they spool I'm enjoying a cocktail. I usually envision myself as a grizzled old Russian pilot with a 2-day old beard who won't be told what to do by some stuffy bureaucrat about alcohol and flying or some such nonesense. What were we talking about again?
  17. *cough* drop it ;)
  18. Well played and congrats!
  19. I only have BlackShark but there should be a "camera zoom" function somewhere in the options, key mapping area. It should be both analog (spin a dial) or digital (press a bunch of times to zoom out/in). Map that function to a rotary or button and utilize it. Good luck.
  20. I promise I do not say this as a conceited American, I say it only matter-of-factly and it's all my (perhaps misguided) opinion. Believe me when I say I have the utmost respect for any modern combat platform, regardless of who designed or employs it! Simulators of American aircraft I suspect will sell better than any other nation's craft in the current, modestly sized market. First of all, you're average American citizen simply has more disposable income than most other nations (though it certainly doesn't feel that way). More disposable income means it's much easier to say, "meh, I'm bored, I'll check out that cool looking simulator of the Warthog." and whip out their check card and start the download, or pull it off the shelf and stick it in their cart. Secondly, historically America has fielded the most advanced combat aircraft in modern times. That's not necessarily the result of pure intelligence, it's just pure funding. Furthermore, for better or for worse, America has actually used said combat aircraft more than most nations thus gaining national exposure for their craft and more importantly, a battle record. Thirdly, America exports a LOT of their air combat platforms to a LOT of different nations. Many "foreign" Air Force's fly American planes. Fourthly, many American jets have been in Hollywood blockbusters over the decades. In other words, even a non military buff from other nations will have likely heard of an F16, a Tomcat etc. whereas your average American non military buff has less likely heard of the Mig-29 or any of the other amazing Russian birds. I like to think I'm a very fair and objective person and those are my feelings on the matter, feel free to tear me a new one. :helpsmilie: In the meantime, I'll continue to fly my beloved Blackshark!
  21. I use TrackIR 3 without the Vector upgrade as well as an X52 Pro. I map my zoom view function to one of the throttle rotaries. I easily rotate that rotary as much as I pull on the collective. All the time to read gauges, zoom in on buttons and scan the battlefield. I like to think of it as a pair of high end binoculars ;)
  22. FedEx/Kinko's here in the states (Minnesota specifically) provides this service online, as well as a couple of other places. I just had the Black Shark Pilots guide printed up by them. 500 pages or so, I chose black and white and bound with a plastic binder. I uploaded it to their website, chose all my options online and submitted it. Within 20 minutes they called me and said it was ready and I could pick it up. It's very well done, double sided etc. Cost was $44 USD. I could have gone color but it was closer to $80. I'm happy with what I bought and it's already getting dogeared and well used :). Good crapper and bathtub material (yes I like taking baths, poke your fun, I can take it).
  23. The best answer I ever heard to the question, what's the correct speed for landing was: Whatever speed you're flying when your FPM is on the threshold and angle of attack is correct for the plane you're in. In other words, if your speed was a million knots then so be it, make sure your AoA is stable (you're not bobbing up and down) and correct for the bird you're flying and keep the FPM on the threshold. Also, I was always taught to manage altitude with the throttle and speed with the stick which is opposite of what you're used to and thus unintuitive. Not sure how the Hog is on approach but I imagine these fundamentals still apply. Deviating from proper procedure, I often apply a decent amount of throttle just before touchdowns for those airline quality touchdowns. YMMV on that one ;)
  24. Should be able to get Windows Updates through 2014 on XP. http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-gb&C2=1173
  25. Amen brother, already got a chapter in this morning. Maybe I'll have McDonalds for lunch so I can get another in tonight... :book:
