If you have the canopy closed, then you need to use the Intercom ... see page 181 of the manual.

This works.  I figured it was something I was doing wrong.  I have to say though this is a little silly.  With the canopy up and APU or engines running you should have to use the intercom regardless.  No big deal though.  Thank you!!

  2. I’m sorry if I’m doing something stupid, but I can’t get the ground crew to respond or follow any requests after a cold/dark start up.  Most importantly I can’t get them to pull the new chocks that are in place at a cold start.  I am able to talk to ATC to request engine start, taxi, etc.  I’m at a friendly base.

I’m using the Multi Thread version.  An easy one to use to duplicate is Instant Action, Sinai Map, Cold Start.

    Thank you for your time.

  3. Hey @BIGNEWY!  Thank you for taking the time to reply!  I definitely watch all the videos and keep up with the update posts.  Looking forward to more of both.  This is such an AWESOME sim and community.  It’s a dream come true for a guy like me that still remembers playing Hornet 1.0, 3.0, and Korea by Graphsim and did work with VRS on their SuperBug, been to Oceana and watched them scream around the pattern, work with a bunch of ex Hornet Avionics dudes, and even had the opportunity to pour over a few maintenance manuals over the years. The Hornet is THE naval strike fighter of my time.  I love the Tomcat, but I’ve always had a special interest in the Hornet and Super Hornets.

    NEVER stop creating!

  4. Good morning!

I understand I’m probably going to get slammed by a few for asking this. I do realize that new information is made available as it becomes available.  But I have to ask.  Is there any updates/news to share about the work in progress being made toward the “flight model for ground effect, takeoff pitch effects, auto-pilot based on FPM, touch and go handling, and other remaining flight model issues”?  I really loved reading and learning from the white paper on radar improvements!  The flight model was the top voted on improvement and I’m very excited to see and learn about the work that is being done on that as well!  I’m a GA pilot, but being an avionics technician is what pays the bills. It’s a career I chose because of the ever changing and improving of systems and software so a lot of the fun wrapped into this wonderful sim for me, is getting new and improved fixes and advances toward aircraft “squawks/gripes”.  Long story short, I’d really like to see something on the Hornet flight model.  Thank you to anyone who took the time to read and consider this.

Assign the TDC to the MAV display and press the Cage/Uncage button.

TDC was assigned to the MAV page.  I flew the mission a second time and it was working again.  I’m sorry I don’t have a track replay. 😞

    Just now, oldcrusty said:

It's weird the way it works here. You can power up the Mav by boxing it on SMS and it slaves to the pod with no problem but if you want to cage/uncage again using HOTAS... no, you have to have master arm on...

And maybe that’s what the problem was.  I may have not had Master Arm on.

  6. As soon as I designate something with the ATFLIR the Mav uncages and I am unable to cage it even after undesignating.  Only way to get it to cage is by cycling off the Mav and back on again via the SMS page.

They didn't engage him, he dropped 2 AGM88s disabling them and then followed with 3 run ins with cannon until nothing was left. After this he just followed his predefined waypoints in radio silence.

On my second playthrough, exactly the same scenario. But he somehow manged to crash into mountain after taking care of the SA3s. Again no radio comms from anyone after this point. I returned to carrier using standard comms and got 80 points, finished mission. As good as it gets for me I think. Moving on.

This is exactly what I’m experiencing.  Flew the mission twice and same both times.  After he wipes out the HAT BOX with guns he just flies off to nowhere in silence.  For what it’s worth, the SA-3 radar never showed more than a search radar on the RWR which Sluggo took out with the HARM first thing before switching to guns.  I’m playing with a clean install, no mods version of the multi-threading DCS.  Maybe the recent changes to the  RWR that DCS did broke it?

  8. Hello!  In Beta v. 2.8.1.34667.  On the AMPCD, (with no map displayed) selecting NIGHT switches on AUTO and disables Brightness control via the knob. Brightness control (NOT AUTO) should be enabled any time a mono raster display from the DMS is displayed regardless of Day or Night selection.  Works fine in DAY.

    Thank you!!

  9. Flying the Baltic Dragon Dominant Fury missions, several missions require an “items check” where one flare and one chaff are dispensed from each aircraft in the element. My flares behave normally but all AI controlled Hornet’s flares shoot upward rather than downward.  I don’t have a track but I can build one to demonstrate if it matters/would help.  Thank you!

  10. So the scenario is that I have a target designated with the ATFLIR.  The HUD shows an accurate point boxed over the target but the same target symbology in the HMD is always way off when I look at it with the helmet.  Am I doing something wrong?  I don’t do the HMD alignment.  Would that help?  Is this normal ops?  Known bug if not?  Thank you!!

  11. Setting Win 8 compatibility mode for DCS.exe does stop the crashes for me.  I’ve restarted my system, restarted the sim, flown every kind of Instant Action across different maps in different aircraft, campaign flights, training missions… the only thing I’ll say is the first load up does seem normal and then subsequent missions when I would expect to see a CTD, the loading screen hangs for maybe 10 sec and then seems to figure out whatever the hang-up was and load normally.  In-sim seems normal.  No drop in FPS or strange behavior from anything.

It behaves at if in normal Win 10 it can’t clear something cached from a previous flight and crashes but in Win 8 compatibility mode it can. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  12. @Flappie I need to do more testing.  I thought I was on to something by turning OFF Synchronize Cockpit Controls with HOTAS Controls at Mission Start under MISC.  I had restored all my other normal settings and even restarted the sim several times with no CTDs.  So finally I restarted my computer and first launch second mission it crashed.  So now I’m back to square one.  More to follow.  I’m not done, just out of time.

I 100% agree with you: those aren't "fixes", only workarounds. DCS 2.7 introduced a lot of new stuff, but also new crashes for some users. The difficulty here for ED is to try and reproduce these crashes. And as long as they cannot reproduce them, there sole mean to determine what happens to you guys is to read the logs that are sent to them.

I've read all crashlogs in this thread, all of them, including yours. They nearly all show the same thing. There are minor differences which are:

    1. Which DLL crashes: dx11backend.dll or d3d11.dll ?
    2. Is there a Lua stack at the end of the crashdump ? (me_map_window.lua script )

    ... and that's it.

As long as you get "Graphics::Renderer::FreeUnusedResources + 0x20" in the crash dump part of your log, you can be sure this is the same bug everyone is having in this thread. And you have it in your log (last line):

Gentlemen, is there anything I can do to help narrow what is causing it?  I would be willing to do a clean install of Windows to see if the problem is resolved although I fear that won’t tell us what the conflict was.  Can I disable hardware systematically or perhaps try specific system graphics settings?  Do you think the problem is in regards to graphics or memory?  If you COULD reproduce it on your system, what would you do?  Give me instructions and I’ll follow them to the letter.  I can mirror someones Nvidia graphics settings that isn’t experiencing crashes.  Everything on my system is currently up to date (windows, drivers, and any additional software installed).  Help me help you.  About all I do with this computer is DCS.  I’m at your disposal.

    @FliaI'll quote myself:

The problem is almost all of these “fixes” aren’t fixes.  It’s just coincidence that X, Y, or Z was done and it stopped crashing… temporarily.  I even thought a few times that I had it resolved the problem and then the crashes returned after restarting the sim or the computer.  I’m convinced there isn’t anything wrong with my computer.  I’ll try anything to help narrow what is broken with DCS but nobody has replied to my posted crash logs either.

I need to add an important precision here: some time ago, DCS was using "DCS" folders in "Local", but these are not used anymore.

    Nowadays, they are in "Local/Temp".

    So here's the full procedure:

    1. Remove %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Temp/DCS.openbeta
    2. Remove %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Temp/DCS
    3. Remove %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/DCS.openbeta (this folder will never come back)
    4. Remove %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/DCS  (this folder will never come back)

These are the folders you want to add as exceptions in Windows Defender:

    • C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta
    • C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS
    • \DCS World OpenBeta\
    • \DCS World\

I tried these steps exactly and I still crashed.  I also updated Windows and my Nvidia drivers to the latest just released and restarted prior to the test.

  16. Alrighty,

With the F/A-18... I select instant action, Caucasus, MIG-29 BFM, shoot down the MIG, watch him with padlock till he impacts the ground, Hit F3 and as the plane flies by I ESC and Exit the flight.  Next I select Nevada still in Instant Action (I have all the Terrains installed) and still with the F-18, MIG-29 BFM and click fly and it crashes.  Sometimes I'll close DCS if it doesn't crash, repeat the whole process and then it crashes on that second BFM flight.  It seems significant to fly for a bit before quitting and starting the next flight to get the crash to occur.  Please take a look at my logs and see if anything stands out.  THANK YOU!  I really want to help get to the bottom of this.  As a side note, I ran dxwebsetup.exe to make certain my DirectX is up to date and it is.  I only did this after I noticed the Sim requires DX11 and I have DX12 installed.  Thanks again everyone!

No MSFS on my system, and crashes are still here, although somewhat less frequent nowadays after using  in-game Full Screen off method.

Even when I de-select full screen my DCS is always full screen.  At no point is it ever “windowed”.  Since discovering that I’ve wondered if it’s related to crashing.  I thought it was initially based on how I had no issues after de-selecting full screen but after restarting my computer the crashes are back regardless of this setting.  I will go through tonight and post any diagnostics I can gather along with what steps I can do to consistently get a crash.

  18. I’m gonna ask what might be a stupid question but would having adding Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 to my system introduced something that is why I get crashes and the Dev’s don’t?  Like perhaps an update to DirectX or one of the many .NET updates?  Do any of you that are experiencing crashes also have the latest Microsoft Flight Sim installed?  Reason I ask is my system really only has 3 things installed other than the Alienware stuff that came with the OS, the standard windows stuff, DCS, MSFS2020, and TrackIR 5.4.

I’m literally considering a fresh Windows install and then a fresh DCS install.  I’ve thought I had this beat as so many others have as well and about the time I feel confident it starts crashing again.

I guess I'll jump in here as well.  I am getting the same random crashes everyone else is reporting.  I've also done the recommended items and it hasn't resolved the problem.

Is is possible it's related to SSLR and SSAO being enabled?  I never used to use these settings until 2.7.

Finally, enabling SSAA causes a crash every time when I start any flight.

So... very interesting.  If I uncheck Full Screen in settings, SSAA doesn't cause a crash (and actually functions", SSLR and SSAO actually work with the respective FPS drop and I don't get any crashes.  Also interesting, The sim both in menu and in cockpit are still full screen and not "windowed" with Full Screen unchecked.  I REALLY hope this helps.
