  1. I was friends with a F-14 pilot for many years (he has since passed away) and asked him about fighting the F-15. His response was: "Above 30,000ft the F-15 has the advantage, below 30,000ft I feel I have the advantage." In most cases with that generation of fighter, it comes down to the pilot and tactics used...

  2. I get the same. Launch bar is not down. On speed landings. Nose gear steering not operational. Have to shut engines down for repair. I flew several patterns tonight and it happened on every landing. Marianas free flight. I've done this flight dozens of times in the past without issue, but recently the nose gear steering fails on every carrier landing. I get the feeling something changed in one of the recent updates...

Can you describe your CASE I, if possible please, to check if i or any other virtual aviator here can help you further? i can guide you to good CASE I videos if you wish.

Hi, thanks for following up. I believe your first thought was correct, I was not within .7nm of the carrier. I just did the same exercise and made sure I was within range before calling the ball and got a normal grade. Thanks!

Please note that ball calls need be to made within 0.7nm or else you may get BC/no proper comms. I start from there, if you get the same grade please check your CASE I approach to find the culprit. You´re missing something.

    Thank you, I will try.

  5. Not sure if bug or something I'm doing wrong, but...

Mariana Islands F-18 free flight. After flying around the island for a while, I do a case 1 on the carrier. I use the ball call and hear the Hornet call in the audio. However, after the landing and I exit, the grade is "no proper communications." With my F-14 landings, I only get this grade when I forget to call the ball. Anyone else run into this?

Okay, let's try this. Can one of you with the latest release fly one of the case 1 pre-defined missions (see photo). Maybe I have to create a mission with the supercarrier to land successfully? If you could record the flight, I would appreciate comparing it to one of mine. Mine never seem to play back fully, not sure why that is...  So, below T-45C 105, T-45C 112, etc. In version 1, I could land any of these.

Well, I just got the latest 2.7 update and now I am landing successfully every time. Love this MOD!

Not quite sure what you’re getting at, unless you are attempting to “set the hook” by increasing the attitude,  but setting up the ship at 15 knots and a natural wind of 5 knots to result in around 20 knots of closure, and simply flying on speed all the way down, with a centered ball on the mirror results in consistent arrestments. You don’t want too much wind and you don’t want to fly a low ball, both of which result in a flatter approach and are self defeating for your purposes.

There is a tendency to settle in close, and get over powered and flat as you cross the ramp. You have to get the power back off to keep the ball centered and stable when you hit the deck. Keep flying the ball.

That is how I fly the ball. Also, I don't set anything, I'm using the case 1 carrier recovery items from the menu list which already had the carrier moving at an optimum rate. With version 1, I had more than 25 successful traps, none with version 2 flying exactly like you describe. Also, I can land the F-14 and F-18 every time, just not this plane after the upgrade... I'm getting instruction from an X Top Gun pilot who has flown both the T-45 and the F-14...

Hey Guys, I've been doing some flight testing with the Goshawk and I have found that if you have a realistic trap weight, proper winds and carrier speed to give you 25 kts average across the deck, the trap seems to go pretty well.  Since I can't find a -W- water line in the HUD, I've been putting the compass ribbon "Carrot" at about 7 degrees and flying on-speed AoA and solid trap after trap.  I've linked an unlisted video from Air Warfare Group's YouTube channel to demonstrate.  Getting realistic parameters for the acft wt, ship speed and winds, and you should be golden!

In order to trap this way, the pilot is well under his "on speed."  Look at the E-Bracket and AOA indicators in the screen shot. I promise you the real plane does not land this way and would be waved off...

You use AoA, not speed. Much more precise, in an aircraft that can vary quite a bit in landing weight. And note that you don't flare for landing.

I think there may be a bit of an issue with trapping currently though, as the mod aircraft sits too high with weight on wheels. This might possibly hold the hook up a few inches higher than it would be IRL.

Well, something has changed since 1.0. I just did several landing attempts where the indicators show correct AOA, good ball, etc. and bolter every time.

True, I just wanted to know if my installation is somehow corrupted, since I recall seeing this kind of issue once earlier (I think it was F-16 early version). If others are seeing this then I guess we can assume this is DCS wide issue, not just this module.

Okay, with the MFD's off, I see the same as you. With them on, there might be a little there as well, just never noticed and not too noticeable. I don't have another glass cockpit aircraft to test with. Don't see much with the SU33 and the F14 also lacks these displays, but I'll give it a try anyway.

F-14, don't see that. The only reflection I can see is in the fuel quantity gauges and it looks to be normal. Can't complain too much with a free MOD though. I'm sure they will address this sort of thing in due time.

Stand by, I'll fly with them off and see if I see the issue...

This module seems great addition to DCS. Just started learning this aircraft, and I have curious problem of pilot reflection stuttering (to be precise: the reflection is jumpin up and down when the aircraft is turning) on MFDs. Purely cosmetic problem, but I was interested if this was a known issue or just my DCS installation problem (2.7 latest)?

    Thanks again for the module.

Edit. Here is a link to video showing the jumpy reflection on MFDs:

Why don't you turn the MFD's on? When they're dark, they are just glass, so reflections can certainly be an issue. I agree, there is something weird about that, but I do not see this when they are in use which should be anytime you're flying...

It isn't a toggle, you need to hold it down - there is a green indicator light for this on the warning/caution/advisory lights panel.

Thank you! I've been flying the F-14 which once you toggle the nose wheel steering, it stays engaged. I'll give this a go 🙂

  15. Am I doing something wrong here? When I start on the carrier ready to taxi, I cannot get enough nose wheel steering, the radius of the turn is so wide, I barely keep the plane on the boat. I have rudder pedals, have toggled the nose wheel steering option, nothing gives me a tighter turn radius... Help please!
