  1. Thanks MAXsenna for your help. I'm not sure what you mean by the controls indicator overlay. I found a command saying I should hit R Ctrl Enter for this but it didn't seem to do anything. Anyhow, having a short throw forward is what I am experiencing now, so if that is how it's meant to be then sounds like I am good and it's working as expected now. Great stuff and thank you.
  2. You wonderful person. We were having a chat elsewhere on the forum about how nice it would be to have some training missions for the A-10A. I will try them out.
  3. The best and most workable I seem to get is by swapping the axis. It's kinda strange because if I leave everything default my stick is forced over to the right and it causes my plane to roll heavily to the right. However, if I swap axis my stick is forced forward, but it doesn't see to put me into a dive in the same way it put me into a roll before. Very odd. Anyway, I find it almost usable like this because the only problem it gives is I don't have much room left to push my stick forward to actual lower my nose quickly. However, when flying you tend to only need to make finer movements that way anyway, rarely do you need to push your nose down hard. Therefore I'm going to try flying like this for a bit, especially as CFRAG has just released some training missions!
  4. Awesome. Unfortunately I have discovered I can't get my old Microsoft Force Feedback joystick working with the A-10A. So far I have used it no problems with the SU-25, the F-15 and also the F/A-18 but as soon as I try to use it with the A-10A the force feedback pulls it off to one side and makes it unusable despite any tweaks to force feedback axis and settings. Very odd. Above lessons look great though and maybe I will figure out some way to get my joystick working to use them.
  5. But they don't have the A-10 cannon. Brrrrrrr.
  6. Thanks will have more of a play with different settings. Everything so far just seems to move the problem rather than fix it. It only seems to be the A-10A that has the problem as well. So far I have also used the SU-25, F-15 and F/A-18 (so a mix of FC3 and a modern one) and they are all perfectly fine. Jump back into the A-10A and it's all over the place again! Very odd but seems very specific to that plane. I shall try a few more things or otherwise it is time to bite the bullet and invest my time into the F/A-18, I just wanted to try another "simple" ground attack plan first to get familiar with the concepts (and mess around with the A-10 cannon ).
  7. Thanks for the tip MAXsenna. However, that just swaps the issue to the other axis so I no longer pull to the right but instead my nose is being forced down. It's strange as it works perfectly with the F-15c.
  8. Hello. I have an old Microsoft Sidewinder 2 force feedback joystick. I’ve been playing the F-15c for a while and now trying the A-10A. However, the joystick “centre” is pulled to the right meaning I have to hold it into the centre or the plane rolls. If I go back to the F-15 it is fine, then back to A-10 it is pulling again. Any tips what might be causing this?
  9. Hello. I was reading the A-10C page(original not A-10C II) on the DCS website and it has several pages of features. One of those is “improved graphics” and it lists things like better clouds, water, shadows etc. is that really the case that with some plane mods you also get improvement to overall graphics?
  10. Haha, that offer was made a while ago but I would second the request. I've been trying to find some A-10A missions to start learning that one. I just don't have the time to learn the more advanced planes at the moment so planning to use FC3 planes for a while (even though I bought the F/A-18C when it was in the sale). I'm loving the F-15C but going to try the A-10A to see if I prefer ground attack or A2A to then decide which plane I invest my time in from the more advanced ones. Therefore if anyone knows of any A-10A training missions I'd love to hear about it.
  11. I've not seen Jetseat before so that's a new one! The Sidewinders do feel a bit cheap (as they are plastic) but also I find very comfortable. It's also lasted me around 20 years so far, so not doing badly. I'm loving all the input and views and I think for now I am going to stick with it (pardon the pun) and maybe if I ever get to a proper set up where my joystick isn't sat on my desk I might look at changing, as the ones like the TM or Virpil ones all look quite big to be sat on a desk. Unless I see a bargain once crazy prices have ended! If anything I may add a yoke based setup for MS Flight Sim next .
  12. I do plan on trying helicopters soon so will bear that in mind, especially with the Apache being announced... Those collective controls look amazing.
  13. Now I've played a bit more I'm not actually finding it such an issue. I think it was down to the panic of not knowing what I was doing and getting lost in all the things to remember, but now some bits of the game are becoming 2nd nature I'm not getting lost in the TDC anymore.
  14. Thanks everyone, I have finally managed to do that one now thanks to the tips, recordings and videos. Now I just need to defeat the practice mission and do the air to air refueling. I think that is going to be much easier now I have worked out the autopilot.
  15. "Progressive strain" - good term and that's the kind of thing I was trying to say Thanks for the response.
  16. Hi all. Maybe this is a bit random but looking for some experiences from others. I have had a Microsoft Sidewinder 2 force feedback joystick for many years and only recently learned that due to patent issues nobody makes FF joysticks anymore. What a shame. In the past I have always played WW2 type sims like IL-2, or older MSFT flight sim versions. The 2020 one doesn't seem to like the Sidewinder joystick so I haven't got that working yet. I've just started playing DCS and I am hooked, it is amazing. I bought a TWCS throttle to complement my Sidewinder and that has helped with all the buttons etc, and also effectively doubles my buttons on the Sidewinder through using a modifier. However, I'm tempted by all the hats and buttons on a Thrustmaster HOTAS (once prices come back to normal again). They look pretty cool. After all that rambling - my question... Do modern joysticks have any kind of dynamic feeling or anything in them e.g. as I pull back more to they get tighter etc or is it all just like a constant spring? Or do they not actually auto center and you do that yourself? I'm trying to figure out what they will feel like to use compared to my Sidewinder. Or do they not have any equivalent feeling to them? Maybe that is actually more realistic with modern fly by wire jets etc anyway so perhaps I should keep my Sidewinder for WW2 planes and something like a Warthog for modern planes. If anyone has gone from a force feedback joystick to a modern stick like a Warthog I'd love to know what you think.
  17. Thanks @Cmptohocah that is pretty cool anyway, but @GGTharos is correct that my question is about the display range (I'm new to the game so may not be getting all the terms right at the moment). I was hoping to find a way to e.g. keep it at 40 if that is what I have set it to, rather than have it move to 20 if I scroll the TDC to the bottom or to 80 if I move it to the top.
  18. Hello. When I'm moving my target designator around in TWS mode, if I move it up to the top of the VSD it moves the range up to the next setting e.g. if it is set to range 40 it automatically moves it up to 80 and if I slew it to the bottom it moves it down again. Is there a way to have it so the range only changes if I specifically tell it to? I find it is very easy to get lost when it is changing automatically.
  19. Thanks @draconus, very smooth... I think I get it now having watched that so thanks for sharing. It's like the HUD is adjusting itself for the wind. I was thinking I needed to adjust and was using my rudder to try and keep the cross and velocity indicator in the middle of the HUD (and totally losing it), whereas you are leaving them off to the side and just making sure they are lined up. I will have another go once I get chance.
  20. No smashing into mountains with the wind turned off. Will gradually ramp it up to practice. It’s quite a nice mission with it off to practice a blind landing. I've installed tracview now as well so will use that to try and figure out where I’m going wrong on the practice mission.
  21. @N22YFI'm loving these, thank you so much for making them. I am new to DCS to they are proving very useful. Like a few others I have got stuck on the things that are actually hard to do like the landing in the rain and cross winds, and the first (unarmed) practice mission where I keep getting shot down. I just saw you posting on another thread that the idea in that one is to evade even getting shot at so I have a few new ways to approach it now. What would be really cool is if you were able to film yourself doing the cross wind landing one successfully so we can see how it's done. I have tried it about 10 times and either slam into the mountain or realise I have flown miles wide of the runway. I can't try it again as I'm going to throw my joystick through the monitor! Would love to see how it is done properly. For now I have used the mission editor to create a duplicate without all the wind as it will be a good way to practice non-visual landings. Would also be good to show how you do the unarmed practice mission as well although I'm going to keep trying that one.
  22. Oh yeah! Cool, 2 useful things learned from one thread
  23. @YSIAD_RIP I have to agree. I have been trying to solve this problem for ages, gone through numerous posts and now you have fixed it. Thank you so much! I got stuck figuring out how to open the Axis Tune panel so in case anyone else is you just have to make sure not to have foldable view selected in the control settings.
