Howdy. I typically always run with vsync ON as the screen tearing is horrible on my monitor otherwise and I'm fine locking in at 60fps. I've had it off a bit while still tinkering with settings to see how much headroom I gain or lose with different settings adjustments. Trackir is fine with Vsync on, unless I might occasionally dip below 60 (at least that's my suspicion). I'd be getting an effective 30 at that point, I suspect (though never really experience this without trackir and in most games if I dip below 60) which causes trackir view to get choppy. So, I thought I might confirm whether or not that was the case by turning off Vsync. The problem is, with Vsync off, everything is fine if I keep my view centered. As soon as I start to look around with Trackir, everything starts behaving more like 30. It's pretty dang choppy. Not to mention the horrible screen tearing. Even if I'm rocking 100-120 on Syria free flight at that time. I've tried the various Vsync settings in NCP, to no avail, as well. Fast behaves like off with regard to trackir, adaptive is fine, but I imagine it's not if I dip below 60, as vsync would get turned off, and trackir is trash with vsync off for some reason. I've tried capping my fps in NCP anywhere between 50 and 60, but I still get tearing, and (more importantly) trackir still behaves poorly, since Vsync is off. I've seen that folks have similar issues with Gsync monitors and higher refresh rates. I don't have Gsync and my monitor is 60hz. Have others encountered similar behavior, and do you have a fix or workaround? I'd be keen to lock at 60 with vsync off, to (potentially) prevent trackir behaving poorly (or at least test that) in larger missions if I ever dip below 60 at all, but trackir behaves terribly with Vsync off, so... I'm a bit at a loss. EDIT: Numpad view is fine with vsync off. So, seems some weird combination of vsync off and trackir (and possibly vsync on if I dip below 60 at all, though not sure on the last one as I can't really test it so long as vcync off creates issues with trackir). Thanks.

@BallantinI find terrain object shadows set to "Default" to give me more stutter over trees and buildings at lower altitude. Your mileage may vary, but I get significant improvements with regard to stutter with terrain object shadows set to "Flat", and I actually (subjectively) prefer it visually over "Default". If you're still needing a bit more improvement/room after that, I might recommend trying preload radius to something lower (I'm using 80k) and possibly also reducing your "visib range" to high, if not already. Terrain object shadows set to "Flat" and SSAA set to "Off" have been the main difference makers for me for a buttery experience with trackir. I can't speak to G-sync, however, as I don't have it. I'm running pretty much maxed, except for the above-mentioned, and SSAO set to "off" at 3440x1440p with my main spec differences from yours being an older i7 6700k and an RTX 3080. Terrain object shadows "flat", visib range "High", Preload radius at 80k, SSAA and SSAO off are providing me with a consistently smooth and buttery experience at 60hz (disclaimer, I'm only getting back into DCS again after about 6 years of not having played).

If interested, I opted for the t-50 base and alpha grip, along w the v4 L desk mount, adapter, and extension stick, and the T-50 throttle. Now, the waiting game begins

Thanks for that. I have some old CH pedals that'll hold me over for now on that front I may just go with the Wardbird base for now and look to get the cm2 one with extension, etc later on down the line, if/when Virpil do some AH-64D grips and I decide to add that to my kit. I'll end up spending 50% more as a result, but it may be a decent idea to have two bases longer-term, from what I've read, so I can more easily go from a heli set up to a jet one, when desired.

Really appreciate your opinions. I'm considering the cm2 base, but not sure if that'll come at some point in the future or as part of this purchase. Just wrestling with the idea of then needing a desk mount, adapter, and extension along with it. I want the extension, personally, especially later when I plan to spend all of my time in the AH-64D. I have a sit/stand desk that I can take from 25" on up. If I did go with the CM2 grip and warbird base, it might not be ideal, but I think I can get around it, so long as I can still get my knees under the desk I don't have real beefy or large hands, so ergo is attractive on the alpha. I'm curious if you have any opinions on which one might have the better options for buttons and hats/sticks? I'm also looking for a good zoom option to use along with my Trackir, as I've wrestled with that and never had something that felt seamless for zooming with my current set up. Was curious if that brake lever on the CM2 would be a good/workable option for that, or what you think on that front between the two grips? Finally, if I go the CM2 base route, do you feel the upgrade is worth it in terms of the play of the stick with an extension on this base, vs desktop w/ the warbird? Is the short v4 mount and short extension enough, or would you recommend the long mount and long extension, if you have any experience with either? Thanks, again.

Howdy. Now that I'm getting back into DCS, I'm looking to upgrade my trusty ole' X-52 Pro and start building a bit of a Virpil collection. Longer term, I'll be looking toward an AH-64D set up if they end up producing grips for that one. For now, I'd like to start with something that can serve me as a more all-around option for things like the A-10C II, the KA-50, Huey, that I have already and some jet or another in the future (F-14/16/18). I'm waffling a bit between the MongoosT or Alpha Grip. Which do you think might be the better all-rounder option? For anyone who has used both or made a decision one way or the other, what are your feelings on either or both of these grips in this context? I'll also pick up the CM3 Throttle when I make this initial purchase, and will look to pick up the collective side of things down the line once I can wait and see if they do anything AH-64D specific. The only other thing I'm waffling on right now is whether to go desktop (warbird base) for now, or go ahead and get go the desk-mounted option with an extension arm, etc. Thanks for any opinions and observations in advance

I really appreciate the new (to me) ability to trial things for two weeks. I did that with the Syria map today and will definitely be buying it. Wasn't sure how it might perform, but it does quite nice on my machine. Have everything pretty much maxed (AA off) running at 3440x1440 and getting a nice smooth (Vsync locked) 60fps. Was getting some pretty heavy stutter over treed areas, but turning terrain object shadows from "Auto" to "Flat" knocked that right out. Super happy with that, plenty of room to play with settings from there. Marianas on the other hand, is about 30fps with the same settings Will definitely be picking up Syria as a purchase. My current settings if anyone cares: [redacted: see below]

My suggestion is partly just organizational/marketing and part content, but one thing I've long wanted to see is more of an emphasis on theatres/regions/eras. We have an increasingly nicely fleshed WW2 era, which is nice. The big one I'd love to see is the Vietnam era. Pick a decade of the Cold War era, perhaps. Looking at existing aircraft, the Korean war seems a nice possibility to explore as well. et al. Perhaps, occasionally poll the users on what theatre/era they'd like to see emphasis placed on next and prioritize development toward fleshing out the content for that specific theatre/era. It would also be nice (and I think attractive to potential customers exploring the site after watching a youtuber playing the Vietnam war, for example) to be able to browse modules by "Theatre" or "Era" as well. I can go and choose the "Vietnam War era modules" category and see a list of all aircraft appropriate for that era, as well as the map(s) and campaigns specific to the Vietnam war. Sticking with the Vietnam war example, more bundle opportunities for newer (perhaps even existing) users when buying in to a "theatre", similar to what you have with WW2 aircraft + map bundles now. For folks who are more specifically drawn toward buying into an era, they buy a full aircraft module for that era and they get one map for that era included in that aircraft module purchase. Now they're bought in and hopefully more likely to continue filling out their "Vietnam" aircraft via other module purchases in the future, but they've got something to get them started at a price in the ballpark of what they're used to for a single "game". I think for folks less familiar with the DCS ecosystem, it would be more approachable. They have a more "attractive" goal of wanting to play out the Vietnam war (either a campaign and/or an MP server), rather than sitting in the cockpit of an aircraft, befuddled, on a map that doesn't really represent the mindset of it being a "game", or just not getting to the point of purchase. Right now, if you go to the shop site, you just see an enormously long list of aircraft all mixed together. I may specifically want to buy a Vietnam aircraft. If I can see that structure, I think it's helpful to someone's potential first purchase and future purchases from the mindset of "awesome, I want to drop napalm in Vietnam". Later, "Wow, now I really want to play that Cobra Vietnam campaign I saw", and "What next? I'd never heard of that jet in Vietnam before. I'll get it b/c now I'm invested and want to learn *all* of the Vietnam aircraft!" The latter example is perhaps one that never would have gotten noticed by this imaginary customer, as it would have just been buried in a long list of modules that lacks that context for them.

I do, and I am Thanks for your opinions everyone. I appreciate it

Might be because the Supercarrier, Viper, and Hornet are all classed as "pre-order" products, since they're all listed as "Early access".

Howdy Looking to take advantage of the current sale to pick up another map, primarily for the forthcoming AH-64D module. I also own the Ka-50 from way back (originally, the disc version) the A-10C Warthog, and the Huey. I may also pick up a proper jet as I just have the the cheap-o FC3 F-15, but have been keen to do some learning on a jet recently. So, the question is, which map would you recommend? I'm waffling right now between Syria, or the Persian Gulf, the latter currently being about half the price of the former. As mentioned, I'm mostly interested in a map that I can put a lot of time into the AH-64D with. Thanks.
