  1. Thx Walter, I downloaded it and tried it. I looked pretty much everywhere but never saw anything to do with fan speed (or fan speed with relation to VPU usage). Anyways temps are good so I'll leave it like this.

    Look under Hardware->Overclocking Settings..., and click on the fan tab. Select the "Manual Speed" button, and then modify your fan speed percentage in relationship to GPU temperature. By the way, I am using version 1.03.755, yours might be a little different. Hope this helps.

  2. Thx Nate and Scotsman!

    Yeah I could not find the option to change the fan speed on ATI Tool. It also said not all cards supported the option to change fan speeds. So, right now I'm still just testing it, to see if the temp ever goes above 70 but it all looks great.

    You can try ATI Tray Tool.

    You can set a profile to change the fan speed with GPU temperature. Your temperature looks fine. There is nothing to worry about.

  3. I've tried gunzo with the Su-27 against F-5, F-4, F-14, F-16, F-18 and Mirage 2000. IMHO, the Mirage 2000 is the toughest. If I get too aggressive and bleed my energy too soon, I got nailed. I have too try against the F-15 some time and see how it goes.

    Also, in gunzo for the Flanker, never carry more than 60% fuel (~ 5 tons).

  4. CH Products gears are the most reliable. My gameport setup (Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and Rudder) lasted 6 years and was still going strong. Because Windows XP not longer supports programming through the PS port, I retired them and upgraded to the USB setup. I owned a few Thrustmaster FCS and Pro FCS in the past, but none lasted more than 2 years. Just my 2 cents.

  5. I saw a video recorded from flankertraining.com (Spelling?) with how you can take down a F-15 with a su-27 using semi active radar missiles, he shot a missile at the F-15, pulled right just enough to keep his beyond visual range thing still locked, then he went back after 15, shot another one, pulled off right again and waited until the ship was dead.. he also evaded one of its AIM-120's so easily.. i dont quite understand how

    What Ironhand did was to increase the distance that the AIM-120 has to travel to reach him, thus depleting its energy (it slows down as a result of drag), while still maintaining lock to guide his missile. He shot two missiles, one at maximum range and the other about 15 seconds later. The first one has very little chance of getting a kill, but he did this to force the bandit into a defensive posture. The second one has a much higher Pk (Probability of Kill).

    To evade the AIM-120, look at the RWR at the bottom right hand side of the cockpit. Maneuver to put the red circle light (the missile) about 30 degrees off your nose. Keep the speed up. Wait until the signal strength is about 4 - 5 ticks from the maximum. Bank towards the missile. When the signal strength reaches about 1 - 2 ticks from the maximum, pull to perform an orthogonal roll. Dispense chaffs rapidly (There is no point in saving them if you are going down).

    The key to getting proficient is practice. I remembered after I watched Ironhand's missile evasion tutorial, I had to practice 20 - 30 times before I get the hang of it. Also, since you are just starting, don't try to go against F-15s. Try against Mig-23s, F-5s or F-4s. Focus on one thing at a time, either F-pole or missile evasion.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Buy an nVidia

    :D

    Yeah, the 7800GT is the best bang for the buck at the moment. However, for absolute performance, ATI 1900XT (XTX) is king.

    Seriously, just try to use the display driver only (without CCC), with ATI Tool or ATI Tray Tool. Also, get Catalyst 6.2. This seems to be better than 6.1. :)

  7. Does anyone at all by Intel at all these days? :biggrin: Really If I was an Intel exec and I took a look at gaming forums like this and others I would be worried. Quite simply Inetl is getting it's butt kicked on the gaming front and has for a while.

    Intel is nice if your room is cold. The heat generated by the processor warms up the room nicely. :biggrin:

  8. HI everyone,

    I have been flying with the gold pack and fully patched version. However I cant seem to be able to find a way to allow either ahat switch or more prefereably my mini stick on my pro throttle to slew the fiew around instead of using the keypad.

    Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

    S.M.

    I used the following script to control the mini stick on my pro throttle.

    script

    CMS.B1 = [JS2.A1 < 63]; // Mini-stick left

    CMS.B2 = [JS2.A1 > 192]; // Mini-stick right

    CMS.B3 = [JS2.A2 < 63]; // Mini-stick up

    CMS.B4 = [JS2.A2 > 192]; // Mini-stick down

    endScript

    JS2 corresponds to the Pro Throttle. A1 and A2 are the horizontal axis and the vertical axis for the PT respectively. Within the CH Control Manager, under the CMS controls tab, define the action for CMS.B1 to CMS.B4. Say, you want mini stick down to look up, set CMS.B4 to the KP2 key. If you give me your email address via private messages, I can send my Flaming Cliffs map files to you so you can go from there. Also, the forum at http://www.ch-hangar.com is a great place to ask questions. Hope this helps.

  9. An alternative to the Athlon64 X2 processors are the socket 939 Opteron 165 (1.8 GHz) and Opteron 170 (2.0 GHz) dual core processors. Both have a 1 MB L2 Cache and both are greater overclockers (> 2.6 GHz at or close to stock voltage). Prices are very competitive relative to the X2 processors.

    Cheers,

  10. britgliderpilot,

    Roger that.

    However, after a hard day's work, it is very satisfying to gun down an opponent :P

    As for IL Compare, it is a utility that compares performance of aircrafts modeled. It compares turn rate, climb performance and top speed, etc. Attached is a screenshot that compares the Bf-109G-2 against the Spitfire Mark VB.

    Cheers and have a Happy New Year!

    Those two links are the most detail I've ever seen about turning in Lomac - exactly what is this IL Compare of which you speak?

    You'll find that we're not quite so interested in turn rates and turn radii in Lomac as the Il2 community - we've also got a lot more ability to move in the vertical, much greater speed ranges, more complex combat systems to worry about . . . . . you just can't look at these aircraft as faster WW2 propfighters, it just doesn't work ;)

    Know your corner speed and practice lots, by all means - but in Lomac you should be killing the enemy BVR. If you're not killing the enemy BVR, you should be killing them coming into the merge. If you're not killing them coming into the merge, then your priority will usually be getting into a position to fire a high PK heater shot - you don't have to hold it there for long, as long as you make it count.

    We also have off-boresight capability for the Russian jets - this complicates matters even further.

    Gunzo fights don't happen very often in combat scenarios - there's far less interest in them than you get in Il2. The information on turn rates and wing loadings Just Isn't There . . . . . you have to practice instead ;)
