Windows keeps rebooting on cold start
1Wolf replied to *Rage*'s topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm not sure in the past 6 pages if anyone has mentioned this or not... CMOS Battery? Whenever I have a CMOS battery starting to go, I get symptoms similar to what was described. At any rate, its a cheap, and easy 5 minute fix and at least that can be eliminated. -
Thank you. These settings that were shared, and the discussion and comparison of the settings others are using is helping me to dial-in the right settings for VR as well. Not just in 2.1 but in 1.5 as well :) One thought, I'm not sure where on these forums it would be appropriate to post this....but maybe we could request that the developers add a built in VR benchmark as a feature? I know a lot of games have a benchmark built in. I don't know if there is such a thing as a "VR Benchmark", but if so, it would be nice if they added that as a feature and it would be something that would be useful for a long time so that folks could discuss and compare FPS, hardware, and settings. Just a thought :)

After upgrading to 1.5.6 I've notice that all my gauges are just a bit more screen door, just a bit blurrier, and just a bit harder to read. Previously, I'd had my pixel density set at 1.6 and had achieved a good balance of FPS and ability to read the gauges for the type of flights I've been doing. As of today, I have to crank my pixel density slider up to 1.7 to get the same level of clarity I had at 1.6 and its still not quite as clear. It looked like my FPS was better with 1.5.6 but I don't want to sacrifice readability for FPS as the gauges are already difficult to read without leaning way forward.

Could someone please tell me how you roll back to 1.5.5? I've never had to roll back before and I think I'd like to. Thanks!

I had no idea there even was such a thing as downloadable scenery replacement and such like in FSX. Those screenshots look terrific and I'm curious to try this. Has anyone used this scenery in VR with an Oculus or Vive? Do you think it would kill the FPS too much to be viable in VR? How much of an FPS hit does this terrain seem to cost you guys, in your opinion? A lot or just a little?

It had been some time since I was playing DCSW and I'd recently returned. I've taken advantage of the Christmas Sale and purchased a whole bunch of modules. My DCSW installs (I have both DCS 1.5 and 2.0 installed) are growing and I'm thinking I need to move/reinstall them to another drive. Currently I have DCS 1.5 and DCS 2.0 and all their modules installed on my system drive. However, I also have another SSD with plenty of space free that I used to only use for Microsoft FSX. I hardly touch FSX these days so I thought I'd put my DCS there. What is the best procedure to do this with both DCS 1.5, DCS 2.0, and all modules and campaigns. I don't want to lose any of my saved data, campaigns, or customizations. I'm nervous though about just moving folders around as I'd rather do this as "clean" as possible. I don't mess much with customizations and such so I don't know too much about the files and folders in DCS so please...any advice you offer...treat me as a newbie. So what is the best and cleanest procedure to do this? Just save off my old DCS 1.5 and 2.0 folders in a temp folder and then uninstall and reinstall? Do I need to deactivate the modules first and then reactivate them? Do I need to deactivate them in both 1.5 and 2.0 before uninstalling? Thanks!

Need a bit of help getting started - new user questions
1Wolf replied to 1Wolf's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Thanks Razor5-1 and BigfootMSR. Thanks for the help and thanks for the welcome :D And thanks especially for that detailed and thorough walkthru BigfootMSR, that helps immensely and I can't thank you enough! Thanks! I'll start walking thru your instructions and installing stuff and see how it goes. I'll definitely check out those tutorials you mentioned as I'll need all the help I can. Originally, when I started last time. I picked up DCS Black Shark and LockOn Platinum at the same time. I was having so much fun with LockOn that I never even got around to trying Black Shark. So that will help alot. One further question... I understand that FC3 should be out very soon. If I plan on getting FC3 (and I do) should I NOT install FC2? Or...is FC2 and FC3 going to be completely different and there is still value in having FC2 installed? Thanks guys! -
Hello! I've just discovered DCS: World and I think I'd like to give it a shot. I'm not completely new to DCS titles as I already own the LockOn: Platinum (LockOn & FC2), and DCS: Black Shark. Its been a while since I've played them though. Quite on accident, I saw a link on another forum to DCS: P-51D and was immediately interested. So I hopped over to the DCS site, read about it, and decided that I think I'd like to pick up: DCS: P-51D DCS: A-10C DCS: Black Shark 2 But that led me to a few questions so I was hoping I could reach out to the community and get some pointers on getting started. I understand that I can download and install DCS: World. And I understand that if I purchase P-51D and install it, that it becomes a "module" of DCS: World. What about DCS: Black Shark. I have DCS: Black Shark on DVD on my shelf here. Its not currently installed on my machine and I'd like to install it again. If I install DCS: Black Shark AFTER I've installed DCS: World...will it somehow recognize my current copy of DCS: Black Shark as a "module" for DCS: World? Should I install DCS: Black Shark first or DCS: World first? I sure hope I wouldn't have to buy DCS: Black Shark all over again to make it part of DCS: World. So then comes the added question of the DCS: Black Shark 2 upgrade. If I purchase and download the DCS: Black Shark 2 upgrade...will that work alright with my DVD version of DCS Black Shark? And will they both work and play together ok in DCS: World? Next question is A-10C. Is there any advantage to purchasing the DVD version of A-10C over the downloaded version of A-10C? Does the DVD copy come with any hardcopy manuals, or quick reference cards, or any handy items like that? If I did purchase the DVD version of A-10C....same question for A-10C as with Black Shark above: If I install DCS: World first and then install the DVD Version of A-10C, Will the DVD version get picked up by DCS: World as a "module"? Does LockOn: FC2 (From the LockOn: Platinum DVD) interface with DCS: World in any way? If so, should I install that before or after DCS: World? Lastly, I see there is a new product called "Combined Arms" that is a module for DCS: World. If you are not as interested in real-time strategy and such, is there anything that DCS: Combined Arms adds to the other modules? Does it, in any way, upgrade or change the other modules? Or is it something to purchase only if you are interested in the strategy level stuff? Thanks in advance for the help!

I also posted the below over at the Ubisoft Lock-On forums as I wasn't sure which was the better place to post...here or there I'm working my way up the learning-curve hill for LockOn FC2 and I just had a quick question about Cockpit views. My question is actually two-fold. 1) I'm a little confused with regards to the cockpit views on the key command reference. I've played many flight sims over the years and most have some variation on the following theme: Look Front Look Front-Left Look Front-Right Look Left Look Right Look Back-Left Look Back-Right Look Back Look Straight-Up Look Front-Up Look Front-Left-Up Look Front-Right-Up Look Left-Up Look Right-Up Look Back-Left-Up Look Back-Right-Up Look Back-Up Look Straight-Down Look Front-Down Look Front-Left-Down Look Front-Right-Down Look Left-Down Look Right-Down Look Back-Left-Down Look Back-Right-Down Look Back-Down In many sims they just map the "Look Straight Up" to a Modifier key (Like Shift) so that when you press that key on its own you look straight up, but if you hold it with, say, the look left key...you look Left-Up. Same goes for the "Look Straight Down" key. The the view goes to the specified direction while you hold the key down, you release the key and the view returns to straight ahead. You get the idea. Anyhow, in FC2 I understand that the "Glance" commands will do "most" of what I refer to above. The "glance" commands view that direction while I hold down the key combination, and when I release it, the view returns to straight ahead. Glance Up (Looks front-up) Glance Left (Looks front-left) Glance Right (Looks front-right) Glance Up-Left (Looks front-up-left) Glance Up-Right (Looks front-up-right) Glance Down-Left (Looks Down-Front-Left) Glance Down-Right (Looks Down-Front-Right) These are missing alot of views though. Its missing Left (9 o'clock) and Right (3 o'clock), Left-Up and Left Down, Back-Left and Back-Right, Back-Left-Up, and Back-Left-Down, Straight Back (Check 6), Back-Up, and Back-Down, Straight Up, and Straight Down. Any idea where I can find these missing views? I noticed that are a bunch of "Snap" views that are "toggles"....i.e. They stay in that direction until I hit the KP5 "center view" key. Thats better than nothing for sure, but they are still missing alot of the important views...such as Straight Left & Right. I also see there are a bunch of "Custom Snap Views". Two of these are views cover the areas I'm missing in the "Glance view" (Back Left and Back Right). The name "Custom Snap View" seems to imply that these views are some how programmable or user-definable but I can't seem to figure out how to set those up or modify them. That brings me to the second part of my question... I've printed out all of the keyboard references. However, there are many commands on that reference that I have no idea what they do and the manuals/documentation that come with the game don't seem to cover them at all. I've got a *.pdf for "LockOn FC2 Flight Manual" that covers weapons, aircraft systems, flight, etc. I've got a "GUI Guide" that is a rought guide to the menus and such (But nothing on what the key commands do except how to map them), and I've got a Quick-Start guide which is just about installation. Some of these commands I can figure out by trial and error but some of them...I hav eno idea what they are supposed to do or how they work. Num0-RAlt is "Save Cockpit Angles". What does that do? How does it work? How does one setup the Custom Snap Views? I see that LAlt-C is "Mouse Cursor Cockpit Mode" and it gives me a little yellow-cross mouse cursor but what is there to click on with this cross? Is it used for anything? Z-LAlt-LShift is "Camera Pan Mode Toggle" but it doesn't seem to do much when I press it? Those are just some example questions. I've done some searching here and really didn't find many threads asking similar questions so I'm guessing that I must be missing a document or something silly, or something obvious. I did find one fellow asking almost the identical question but he really didn't get much of an answer, and in the end, just ended up going with TrackIR. Any help on getting my views setup would be greatly appreciated. Trying to dogfight while using a "Hat Pan" is really really clunky...lol. Thanks!

Lock On Platinum - New User to LockOn Series
1Wolf replied to 1Wolf's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks for all the great responses :) That should get me started. Just a few follow up questions to clarify a few things before I dive i n... For FC2, how do I tell which version came with LockOn Platinum? I see a file in my FC2 installation folder called "Readme1.2.1_en.txt". Does that filename indicate my version, and if so, is that the most current version? Does my FC2 installation require any patching? For LOMAC, if I'm going to utilize it mostly just for the possibility of the training missions...I want to make sure that is patched up as well. Because I installed FC2, is LOMAC automatically patched up to the most recent version? There is a version indication on my LOMAC screen, below the clock it says 1.01. Should I apply any patches to that? If so, which one? Will that mess up my FC2 installation at all? (I'd hate to try patching LOMAC only to downgrade my FC2). Are there any really good 'must have' downloads or addons you might recommend? I'm one of those folks that likes to download/install/collect everything for a game first before I dive in. Does that mean that the LOMAC training missions work in FC2? Are the LOMAC ones different than the FC2 ones? I'm a bit confused as I see that if I load up LOMAC, I see some basic Fighter Weapon School training stuff about takeoffs, and landings and such. Then I see some specific A10 stuff and such. However, if I load up FC2, I also see some Fighter Weapon School training stuff about takeoffs and landings and such but I only see specific stuff about the SU25. From the lockon website, I found a link on my FC2 training screen that took me to the lockon website and let me download training videos for the A10, F15, etc. in FC2. Given all of the above, I'm not sure if I should be using LOMAC first just for the training missions and then hopping into FC2 to do training missions there as well? Are the FC2 one more 'advanced' lessons that should come after the basic lomac ones? Thanks again everyone! Greatly Appreciated! -
Hello! I've recently purchased "LockOn Platinum" and am a little bit confused. There are so many versions, patches, and expansions and such for LockOn that I'm not quite sure whether I need to patch, what I need to patch, what versions I have, or even which Icon to click to play for that matter LockOn Platinum came with 2 DVD's: LockOn: Modern Air Combat and Flaming Cliffs 2. The instructions stated to first install "LockOn: Modern Air Combat" and then install "Flaming Cliffs 2". I now have 2 icons on my desktop "Start Lock On" and "LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2". If I double-click on "Start Lock On" then the game that loads appears a bit older. There is a clock in the bottom right and below that clock it says "Version 1.01". If I double-click on "Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2" t hen the game that loads has a completely different user interface and seems newer and crisper. There is no version identification or "About" screen anywhere that I can find. Are these 2 completely different games? Should I be patching "Lock On: Modern Air Combat" up to a version newer than 1.01 and then playing through the campaigns/missions in that game before moving on to "Flaming Cliffs 2". Then patch "Flaming Cliffs 2" up to some newer version and then play through that? Or...are these the same game but "Flaming Cliffs 2" is just the newer version and I should just effectively ignore "Lock On: Modern Air Combat" and always start and play "Flaming Cliffs 2"? Will I be able to do all the same missions and campaign but with the better graphics? Please forgive the silly questions, but its very confusing. I'd like to get started but I'm not sure what to patch and when...and worse yet....I'm not sure if I should start with Lock On: Modern Air Combat or I should ignore it and start with Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2. Thanks!
