  1. Greg, can you tell us what are you are using for your case and CPU cooler?
  2. I have this same issue, and have even tried generating huge dead zones in an attempt to ensure there is no way that the brakes stay engaged. I think this is a DCS bug, b/c I can see in the RCtrl-Enter screen that the toe brake dead zones are ignored. No amount of dead zone modifies the brake response. If it did, I could alleviate the problem with a 50% deadzone. This is quite annoying, and I'm guessing it's not limited to just Saitek pedals.

    FSX Discussion

Well my system runs the much more taxing DCS Warthog at an average of 30fps, so I blame FSX for the performance issues, not my system. Maybe it was slow due to me taking off from a particular airport?

I thought add-ons would add more aircraft/scenery. What I need is to speed up FSX from 10-20fps on low settings to 60fps on at least medium, if not high, settings. This is a 4 year old title, it should scream on my PC. Also, it would be nice if the TIR stayed inside the plane (X-Plane 9). FSX has this problem a bit as well.

    FSX Discussion

I didn't even know about these addons or tweaks. I just installed FSX and X-Plane 9 and played with them. And the experience was amateurish compared to DCS. With FSX, I lowered all settings to low, changed my resolution to 720p, and it was still 10-20fps. Plus, it looked like 1990s 3D graphics in that mode. It's easy to say that you need to tweak this or install that to get FSX up to par. Perhaps DCS can get 100% better as well. But the standard install of all 3 of these titles are leagues apart in quality. I would also argue that DCS is a platform too. It only supports two user-controlled weapons delivery systems (Ka-50 and A-10C). And I hope mods come out to make it better. But for now, DCS is just truly a cut above the other sims. Just look at the animation model of the analog gauges! I would argue that FSX had better training, and X-Plane 9 had better terrain graphics. Also, it's pretty cool how in FSX (maybe XPlane 9 too), you could land/takeoff anywhere in the world, and the terrain was pretty close to the real thing. I hope that kind of customization comes to DCS.

    FSX Discussion

DCS Warthog is my first flight sim in perhaps 7-10 years. I've been playing it for about 3 weeks. It's great, but I didn't realize how great. So I decided to try out Flight Simulator X and X-Plane 9, to see how those compared to DCS. Wow, in comparison, it's amazing how terrible they are. The DCS cockpit is just so lifelike compared to the others. The engine sounds, the realistic flight dynamics, the ability to see all around you during takeoff (way better track IR integration). And the performance! FSX, even on lowest settings, gets barely 20fps on my system. DCS could improve by taking the FSX training system, but that's it. I'm just amazed at what DCS has done here. If I hadn't tried the competitors, I wouldn't have realized just how premium the DCS sims are. Now where can I get a motion simulator and a 720p head mounted display? :)
  7. Thanks guys, that works!
  8. I did try using the airport diagrams. Most of my troubles were that I didn't know WHERE on the particular airport I was. Using F-10 may help that, if it has that level of detail. It is especially hard to find your way to the runway if it's night or in a storm. Just curious how real pilots do it. Is runway 08 a heading of 08 or 080? If it's 080 as MTFDarkEagle suggests, that makes a LOT more sense. Is 00 facing north then?
  9. I've got the A-10C startup sequence down. However, I often screw up the taxi. For example, the tower will ask me to take off from runway 08, but the first end of the runway I find is 22, and I am not cleared for takeoff. How does one know: 1. WHICH airport you are starting up in, in the case of random mission generation. And thus which airport radio frequency to use. 2. HOW to get from the ramp to the runway, besides cheating and looking at the external view? Even if I do cheat, how do I find the runway during a storm with little visibility? 3. How do I know WHICH part of the runway the tower wants me to take off from? I realize runway 08 means bearing 08, but from who's perspective? Thanks.
  10. That sounds like an ideal system. Can you tell me where you purchased/configured such a system? 4.55Ghz will require some serious cooling. I don't suppose you have a picture of your monitor setup to share? I'd like to see how the clamp/mount works. Thanks.
  11. So you're running each of the displays in portrait mode? I didn't realize 30" displays rotated on their stands. Or are you using a tri-display mount? What's your CPU/RAM config?
  12. Awesome. Love the new symbol encoding. One suggestion: can you put the Mav profiles above the AIM-9 ones? I ask just b/c I'm guessing folks are almost never in A-A mode, while Mavs get used more often. Hence, seeing Mav key definitions sooner would save the eye on scan time.
  13. Touchscreen does sound awesome. If you can get DCS A-10 to keep the touchscreen monitor static, while you have another monitor representing your view, that would be ideal. Otherwise, you still have to pan your view down to the MFDs, then back up to the HUD. I find that disorienting. Ideally, I'd have a static set of controls below a TrackIR controlled 3 monitor Eyefinity view display.
  14. Evader, what is your FPS hit to add those displays while playing A10?
  15. Actually, that's a pretty good idea. However, I'm not sure you can move the MFD *buttons* along with the MFD screen contents to another LCD. That would be necessary to utilize the touch screen to interact with the MFDs. But perhaps the LUA files allow you to move a snapview to another screen. Probably take a hit on FPS, though. I'd really like to pick up the MFD screen frames, but they're kind of useless (to me) without the screen contents. It's too bad there isn't some sort of LCD we can buy that perfectly fits, and a setup that does NOT cause a hit to FPS. I'm already at only 20-30FPS, so I can't even think about external MFD screens until I upgrade my CPU.
  16. How would both MFCs (5" x 5") fit on one 7" LCD? Or did you want to use one LCD per MFD?
  17. As mentioned by others, the countermeasures training crashes for me as well. It's definitely not a pause: it crashes to the desktop, reloading the main menu GUI. Is anyone aware of other countermeasures training missions or videos out there?
  18. Even if the trackIR is unplugged, the driver may still be loaded. Try exiting the TrackIR application. That will unload the driver. I'm assuming that you can run the 64-bit DCS A-10C binary just fine. Is that right? What blue light are you referring to in your initial post? My TrackIR 5 has two green LEDs. The left one comes on when the TrackIR app loads, and it can see my TrackClip. The right one comes on when a game loads. Also, you may want to try disabling SLI.
  19. Forgetting the crossfeed wasn't a problem because the other engine was dead anyway. I still have no idea how you restarted without turning the APU on. ie. Where was the bleed air to start either engine? Also, did you have to HOLD the engine at IGN position, or just click up once? I was under the impression you had to hold the engine in IGN until you saw it spool up. I have a feeling this sim, as hard as it is, has some of the realism set down. I once landed so hard on the front wheel that the wheel blew off, and I skidded to a stop. Just for fun, I then decided to spool the engines to max, and see if I could take off. With the front wheel existing only as a metal stump, I still managed to scrape across the dirt and take off! Not likely in real life.
  20. I *believe* you need nose wheel steering (NWS) on to engage the wheel brake. One time I forgot to turn on NWS, and the brake never seemed to engage. I could tell, b/c I was only taxiing at slow speed, so the brake effect should have been obvious. Turned on NWS, and the brake functioned properly after that.
  21. Curious: if you disable TrackIR, does the problem loading the game engine go away?
  22. Love the added musical score. Regarding bingo fuel: I was under the impression that the wheel brake was hydraulically powered... how did that work without engine power? Regarding the drop from 45k feet... the manual seems to indicate that the windmill restart can only start one engine if another is running. It appeared you had zero engines at mission start. So I'm assuming you used the APU as if you had been sitting on the ramp, in which case you didn't require the windmill, correct? Did you use the TM Warthog to hit the engine switches? I can't imagine how you saw/clicked the buttons in the near-blackout state...
  23. I'm using Beta 3, and have been trying it for 5 minutes on super speed (Ctrl-Z a couple times), and haven't crashed yet. Still maintaining 4410 feet, with a bank of about 15 degrees.
  24. Brilliant! Thank you.
  25. Shake3000: I haven't tried setting the CDU to markpoint. That will save time not having to make a flight plan. Great idea! JHepburn/msvgas: How does one fly a circle around the target area whilst staring at the TGP, slewing, marking, etc? I wish autopilot had a "wide orbit" option. Furia: I am using a TM Warthog HOTAS. I've completed all training missions except countermeasures, because it keeps crashing after a couple of radar warnings are received. I totally appreciate all of the training youtube videos out there. I'm about 90% through the manual.
