New radar functions cause a lot of stuttering in VR - latest OB
Match replied to Gryzor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I still find it hard to believe, but this is the third time I've started DCS and it seems to be running perfectly. What did I do? I DON'T HAVE A F*****G CLUE! The only two things I have done since the last message were, do the memory test and do a CMOS Clear. And why did I do the CMOS reset? Because as I had mentioned a while ago I had done a BIOS update, only today I notice that the power button led was not lighting up anymore, the pc was booting normally but the led was not going. Now, the last time I had opened the bios and was setting the boot priority my cat walked on my keyboard, I thought, didn't he disable it somewhere? I looked through the settings but I don't think there is such a function, the fact is that when in doubt, since everything was left default except the boot sequence and fan curves, I thought I'd give it a reset which never hurts. Parenthetical opening: the stuttering problem had appeared long before the bios update To be clear and to help anyone experiencing this problem: the radar-related stuttering and exclusive to the F18 I strongly suspect disappeared with the latest uninstall and reinstall of DCS. The stuttering I experienced later was of a different type and no longer related to the radar so I don't know what it was caused by but, at least for now, with the operations described it seems to have disappeared. Guys, thanks for your patience and help, you are great. I hope this issue won't happen again so we can just think about flying and having fun together. PS: the power button LED is probably gone, the blue LEDs do this sometimes -

Thanks @Temetre, in this days I’ve done some stability test for every parts of the pc with OCCT and all seems stable. Now I’m running memtest64 as you suggested, I’ll keep you updated… and it just crashed out right now while I’m writing this message on my smartphone… I’m going to try again.. but can this be a clue? EDIT: Ok the test is running from an half of hour and so far it has found no errors -

I have already listed DCS as a Windows defender exclusion long ago. Regarding the video drivers I removed and reinstalled them just tonight before posting on the forum. -

hi @Flappie, here are the cristal mark results. I've done the tests for all my drive so we can compare the results (the slower one is the Sata SSD, the page file is set on the F: Drive). In my previous message i forgot to mention that with the new dcs installation the loading times got much faster, but as i said the stutter dynamics changed and it seem now it is no more related to the radar. Indeed now it does with all modules, although it seems to have really changed the type of stutter, as you can see at the link I posted earlier Thanks again -

Here we are again. I ran the new dcs installation and something has changed, but not for the better. Now the stutters are definitely lighter, perhaps more frequent though. They are no longer affected by the state of the radar. They are no longer limited to F18, I now have them on all modules. I have tried uninstalling Afterburner, running DCS without OpenTrack, and reinstalling the Nvidia drivers... nothing... I lost all hope... below I attach the logs and tracks I made today, there are a couple of videos also at this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-hWi1r7fmCTdjqBh9QFbqT2tqjNm0Zz3?usp=drive_link If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it, otherwise I think I will format the whole thing for the umpteenth time. Although this would be the fourth time I've formatted the pc for problems with DCS, each time it's fine for the first couple of months, then after a few updates it gets ruined again and you never know why... I don't know, any help? track01_09_23_003.trk dcs_002.log track01_09_23.trk track01_09_23_002.trk dcs.log.old dcs003.log track01_09_23_MB339.trk -

Good morning guys, I wanted to try again as @Temetresuggested, so last night I uninstalled everything, deleted every possible trace of dcs from my pc. After that I downloaded everything again. This morning, before going to the office, I was able to try an instant action by running ST , without going to change any settings. Obviously not having set the controls either, I was able to try very very little, I hope to be able to give you more accurate feedback this evening. What I observed was that it definitely loaded faster, but again I had a couple of brief stutters. I will update you as soon as I have done some more testing. In the meantime, does anyone have any news on this? Any users who have been able to correct anything? @Flappie have you had a chance to verify those files? -

Ok here there are all the file requested... and a couple more... I know you told me that you don't need the mini-dump, but I preferred to do it anyway in case some developer might need it if the debugging were to be more complex. So we have all the files related to the same track, log, etc... maybe no need, but if we need them we have them. The video clip and the minidump were too large to be uploaded here, so i put them on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-fYTvpKGSGjqZxmPGYFTA0UV1o_AOvnm?usp=sharing Stuttering is clearly visible in the video clip ...and excuse me, I know it's 5 minutes of clip, but I also wanted to show you the loading screen which had been slowing down a lot lately, although while making the video it seemed faster than the last few times. Of course you can go ahead... but all stuff can be useful, right? Thanks again. I'll be here if i can help in some way. dcs.log Process.txt track.trk DxDiag24_08_23.txt options.lua -

Thanks for the quick feedback @Flappie! Yes i was in mind to do all those things as soon as i will come back to home. About the dcs.log do you prefer a standard log or the version with the additional debug as it is explained here? https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/support_ticket/ I'll attach also the DxDiag file and a video clip of the issue shooted by external source, obviously about the same test of the dcs.log and track. Least but not last, can be the memory dump file useful? Thanks again! -

I'm having the same problem in flat screen every time i fly the F/a-18 even in the free flight instant action. I found this thread yesterday and i've tried to turn off the radar: stuttering almost fully disappeared, just some sporadic very little freeze that i always have. Some info and feedback: The stutters doesn't appears when i fly the other module i own, the mb-339 The stutters reduce when the radar is off The stutters are heavier at the first F-18 flight of the first run of the game since the system startup (i need to check this more) The stutters occurs even with settings set to low First Loading of the instant action on Caucaso and even other mission takes more than 3:30/4:00 minutes and the loading bar seems stucked in a couple of specific points (can't remember now, but i will update when i came back home) DCS is running without any mods The stutters occurs both in MT and ST The stutters occurs both with G-Sync on and off Check hardware and done all the stability test with OCCT: System stable, other games and sims (and other module here on DCS) runs smooth DCS is installed on the main NVMe, the same where run the OS Paging File set to 30 gb (30720mb) for both min and max on a secondary NVMe Power managment is running at best performance settings Excluded for some possible fix which i tried (see those below), the Nvidia Control Pannel setting are set on deafult settings Some possible fix i've tried: (at the first occur of the problem, almost a months ago) Run a clean up and repair: no changes (at the first occur of the problem, almost a months ago) Run a clean installation of DCS: no changes, just a little speed up in loading time but they slow down again after some days Run a clean of DCS Shaders: no changes Run a clean of Nvidia Shaders, and DirectX cache: no chages Run a full remove and clean installation of Nvidia Driver Try to not run Open Track in background: no differences Try to not run MSI Afterburner in background (i use it only to trim the GPU Fans and to monitor the temperature and usage graphs): no differences Try to set MFD res to 1024 every frames as suggested in another thread: no differences Try to set an fps cap from Nvidia control pannel: with radar on no changes, with radar frame time more stable. Try to fully deactivate the Paging File: no differences Try to stop "power" service: no change but i'vo tryed this long time ago and i've to check again to be sure Try to set Thread Optimization off in Nvidia Control Pannel: no differences Try to run both with DRAM XMP profile on and off: no differences Try to turn off Hot Plug function: no differences Try to force DCS to not record track: no differences, i turn it on again after the test I think I also made other attempts that I don't remember now. I will update the post if I can remember them and if I make other attempts. I have made some videos of the defect which if they can help I can share. I have not saved the flight tracks yet, I know they are needed along with the log, I will share everything with you as soon as I can spare a few minutes for further testing. Of course if you should have any suggestions or would like to do specific tests I am completely available, I have run out of ideas on possible solutions. Other info that i think is not releated, i'm giving you those only to be the most precise that i can: the pc was formatted and reinstalled windows a few months ago for a general cleaning. Since then DCS has always worked perfectly until this problem appeared. almost a couple of week after the first occurs of the problem I had a problem with a mechanical hdd used exclusively as storage, this was causing paging errors even though it was not being used for this function. I replaced it with a sata ssd and the errors on the event viewer disappeared, I was hoping that was what was causing the stutters but they continued even after replacing it. Currently I think I can rule out a correlation also recently I performed a bios update to fix (apparently partially ) a known error on tpm that occurred with a windows 11 update installed some months ago. Also around this time, it seems to me a bit before the hdd malfunction and perhaps after an Nvidia driver update, the motherboard manufacturer's splash screen at pc startup became "bigger" lowering in resolution. I noticed that this only happened with fast boot active and that the damaged hard disk prevented fast boot from working properly. Replacing the drive made fast boot work properly again but the splash screen remained that way. I subsequently disabled fast boot but still occasionally this screen would appear in low resolution. With the bios update, on the other hand, the whole screen seems to have disappeared altogether, but it too would seem to be a known bug. Here again I doubt there could be any correlation since the other modules on dcs work properly. I am completely available if I can do anything else, please help me that my partner can't take it anymore to see me struggling on this computer... Eagle Dynamics please save this relationship!!! Yes, i think is the same problem. I'm trying different possible fix for weeks, including cleaning the shaders from saved games folder, recreating the whole DCSOpenBeta Folder in saved games, clean the DirectX Cache, Clean the Nvidia Shaders, do a clean installation of Nvidia Drivers, tryed to lower setup, tryed to do a clean up and repair, tryed to do a clean installation of DCS, check if the problem remain even in ST (and yes) and a lot of other thing i can't remember now. Yesterday i had found this in another section of the forum I've done another test and i verified that with the radar turned off the stuttering almost disappear, not completely, but they're reduced at acceptable level. Some days ago i notice that this problem is more heavy at the first execution of dcs and at the first fly with the f/a-18, but i have to verify this with some other test. Tell me if you have the same symptoms, on the other thread, a beta tester from ED reply that they cannot reproduce the problem, maybe if we identify the causes well and send them other logs they can understand the cause.

I’ve just registered to the forum for a very similar problem since a couple of months: I’ve got heavy stuttering with the F/A-18C in single player instant actions mission (didn’t tried the MP yet). I didn’t try with other missions cause I’ve done a recent clean installation for dcs hoping that can solve the problem. I also tried one mission I made to do a little free flying with the MB-339 and it seem work smooth without any stutter. I made some video to show the issue, I can upload those tomorrow and also do some other test. let me know if I can do some specific test thanks in advice (and sorry for my bad English)
