Wow! You are sure getting deep into the F-5E! I will be solely in VR, so even half the controls on the HOTAS are going to be seldom used. It really would be cool to have everything where you expect, and have actual switches to flip though!

Cable is preferable, but I've had enough of feeling tethered, and feeling the cable whenever I turn to look around.

The Crystals all seem to require the addition of the wireless link, whereas the Q3 comes ready for it.

Yes, I'm well versed in trim, having played other sims (but not jets). I use Winwing HOTAS so plenty of hats! Thanks for the advice, though. I try to do short hops and then return to base, rather than circuits which can get tedious. Everything just happens so much quicker in a jet, and the engine spools slower, so more practice required!

I finally enagaged in air-to-air combat after learning the radar system (sort of). It reminds me of an old Atari game. Such a quirky system. I was even awarded my first medal . I still need to practice circuits, as everything happens so fast! I get it down, but not on a gentle glide slope. I guess any landing you can walk away from is a good one. I also need to get a lower seat, as I have my stick too far back to keep it away from my bar top, but can't get myself far enough back before hitting the wall behind with my chair. A lower chair would mean I can mount under the bar in a more ergonomic position.

I've started window shopping for the Quest 3. It looks good for the money, and I like the idea of being free of wires!

In VR, I'm finding the need to sit up taller than usual, hit the VR recentre button (mapped to stick), then "slouch" back down, to get a natural position in the cockpit.

I built mine a long while ago now, but I play DCS in VR, and my rather modest spec runs it all fine. On initial loading, it is a little choppy with a drop in framerate, but after 5 minutes or so it seems to smooth itself out. I'm new to DCS, but play on XPlane11 too. Flew 3 hours straight in DCS today. That spec is waaaay above mine! Motherboard - Gigabyte A320M-S2H Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 1700 + Wraith Cooler Video Card - Zotac Nvidia GTX 1080 Drives - 120GB SSD for Windows, but DCS runs from an ordinary 2TB HDD (WD Blue) 16GB Corsair LPX RAM With a cheap Dell WMR headset Ps. Don't ask me to justify it, but I would only use AMD processors. I've never had much luck with Intel.

I am here from X-Plane11, but it didn't quite "do it" for me. I have flown a few times IRL with the RAF, including aerobatics. I don't have the funds for PPL though unfortunately Yup, and I'm loving the F-5E.

My first foray into the DCS World has been fairly successful. A few wobbly circuits flown, Tacan navigation is working, and I've got most of my keybinds set (although I have to now remember where they all are!). I haven't yet even used VR, until all is ironed out. VoiceAttack is set to give all required commands to Ground Crew, plus "live pause" (which I've needed a lot!). This is not a "game" for me. Contrary to many assesments of DCS on Yootoobs that seem to think the devs should churn out low fidelity models to fill the gaps for pure "gamers," I'm trying to properly learn to fly in this sim, not just fling rockets down range. Weapons systems will come later, but I'm loving the realism. I hopeit doesn't become what many seem to want it to be. There are other games out there that cater for casual gamers. I haven't even switched the Master Arm on yet, and I'm loving DCS! I'm not a total notice in terms of aviation, but there is a lot to learn in a jet. I have no plans to upgrade from the F-5E for a good while yet!

I have asked, but they bought it "nearly new," from the original owner and hadn't used it themselves before selling on to me, so he never realised it was missing. I got it at such a good price, If I have to manage without it, I will. Good idea, thanks.

I bought this as used, unfortunately, and it's nowhere to be found. Are these available, or does anyone 3D print?

I should have a reheat/afterburner indent piece here right? I have the finger lift kit, which functions for idle, but I don't even feel the "stock" notch for reheat, and the piece to "stop" the finger lift appears to be missing. Where can I get one?

I'm taking a "go big or go home" approach to DCS. I have a Winwing Orion 2 Hotas (16EX stick with Orion Throttle 18 w/finger lift) coming tomorrow. I already have an oldish WMR VR headset and Voice Attack software, for easy comms with groundcrew/rio/wizzo. I have played a few different flight sims over the years. Most recently, Xplane11. My first was probably "LHX Attack Chopper" on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis in USA). Anyone else remember that one? I have flown hands-on in a Scottish Aviation Bulldog IRL a few times, as well as passenger ride in Sea King. I love aviation, and DCS is the next logical step. I will be focusing on the F5E, as the weapons systems look easier and I can learn the basics in it. Maybe the F14 or F18 later on. Now for a week of working out keybinds and ironing out teething problems!
