I still use XP. I have a lot of old games that absolutely refuse to run on Win7.. Silent Hunter III w/ GWX hates Win7.
-
LMAO! Nice.
-
QFT! I was hoping to see IR strobes from the friendlies as well.

Yep, Ive come close to turning off anti-skid, blowing all three tires then shooting the tower the bird. Brakes are very soft in this version of beta. Does the A10 not have a reverse thrust? That would help a lot with these wimpy brakes.

Im using trackir and putting my face thru the monitor. Is there a closer zoom level than that? But, thanks for the info, Ill try it out. I was really hoping not to mash anymore buttons, as I tend to be doing that much to much already.

Add more targets, like trains, power stations, water plants, ammo dumps, etc. Add a little more strategic layer to mix with the day-to-day CAS roles. 356th Bomber squadron is on a major strike in the north and cannot spare assets, command has asked you to take out the Saab dealership in downtown Tukista where insurgents are retrofetting station wagons as technicals. We are counting on you! :D More targets is always good.

I did a search but didnt find any results. Is there anyway to increase the text size in the HUD? It is so flipping small I can barely read it and when I move forward with my trackir, it stays the same size, i.e. it doesnt get bigger like the rest of the cockpit guages and instruments. Moving the size up a point or two would be a welcome benefit to me. Half of the training missions where the instructor is saying see this and see that on the hud.. Im like WTF, I dont see that. Thanks in advance, alphie

alphie replied to Glowing_Amraam's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Ive linked the youtube on all the gamer forums I frequent. Everyone is truely stoked. Great, great video! The sim maker should be paying you to produce all their videos!! -
was going to get an x65f till i saw this
alphie replied to 5thduke's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would still get the X65 -
Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
alphie replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Not true. If you ever played JSF S-35 simulator you would know how false your assumption is. There is more pilot workload actually setting up a bomb run on an enemy airfield and evading sam and aaa emplacements. The avionics only provide tools to assess the situation, it doesnt make up for skill in an engagement. Just because something has stealth characteristics doesnt mean its invisible. The engagement circle of enemy anti air is just smaller, not gone all together. Quit talking out your butt. -
I found it! Right where you said it was, thanks again! http://6ahdda.blu.livefilestore.com/y1pm50z0A8jXZyFx6GKlR0RKhjvseAR6Kq_Rl44Ek32mZf8DDCY70hfv0DFc0u8Pd4oOaHl0HJa1jrOgQzL1OhzeWnqClDkL6LU/Flameout.trk?download&psid=1 Its your basic boring training mission until 11:14 game time. You can tell I come from WWII flight sims the way I land. Lots of hard rudder to cut speed. Yeah, it aint pretty, but was successful.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I dont think training missions give you the options to save the .trk file tho. At least I didnt get that option when I exited.

So being a newbie to the sim, I was working thru the training missions and was only on the basic flight, when I stopped receiving training instructions from the instructor.. bug? I did everything he told me to do, but he just stopped giving instructions after telling me to climb to 12k, so I was basically in free flight mode. Since I was just flying along, with no more communications from the expert I decided to have a little fun. I saw a river below me and did a reverse immulman, promptly exceeded my flight speed characteristics and flamed both engines out. Alarms and claxxons going crazy, engine noises deafly silent.. pilots worse nightmare. I was able to stabalize the plane with a slight nose down, but I was loosing altitude quickly. At the flameout I was only 3k AGL, so I was frantic. I began contemplating ejection, but I said hell with it, I will ride it down and try to belly land in a field somewhere. Uncle Sam would be PO'd if I wrecked this nice warbird, besides there aren't many left. All of it sudden it dawned on me, like a light bulb going off over my head. Maybe I can get out of this. I remembered my earlier flight training about cold starts on the field, so I desperately tried to remember the engine startup steps. Now, I dont know if this is the "correct" way to do this, but.. I put both throttles to idle, I shut off both fuel master switches to the main engines, powered up the APU and APU inverter, waited a few seconds for the APU to settle out, then enabled the starboard engine fuel and, OMG it started stuttering, hiccuping and whining to life. When it was fully settled out I punched it forward past the detents, and prayed for salvation. I was 600m AGL at 78kts. Let me tell you, flying the Hog on one engine and low speed is like trying to keep a fat chick on a surf board in a tsunami. I contimplated flaps, but I was so slow and fighting so hard, I didnt want to risk another issue. I faught it hard and slowly my airspeed kicked up and was able to slowly regain attitude. I only have a single stick throttle and haven't memorized the keys for individual throttle control, so I climbed my way back up to 2 grand, set the throttle to idle, turned on the port fuel flow and heard it kick back up to life. Oh sweet salvation!!! I promptly landed at the closest airfield. I really wanted to watch it again, but I dont know how to keep a record of the flight I just had, so I lost it. I havent even fired a weapon yet on this bird, but man oh man was that fun. Going back to the manual now to read up and try to learn more. The only problem is, the sim is just too beautiful. I get a couple of pages into the manual, get bored and then get into trouble in the sim because I didnt RTFM. Cheers, alphie

Navigation, Can it be simplified for beginners?
alphie replied to dnme's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hi new user. I understand what the OP is trying to say. I have always had problems with ILS and TACAN. You guys may think its "old hat" since you've been simming or flying for real since the stone age. But, I have never been able to figure out the indicators, when to use what, etc. I've read every article I can come across on the subject. I know the theory quite well and I know how it works. But when your in the cockpit at zero vis, putting it all in practice and knowing when to line up this with that, can be quite daunting. I dont want a dumbed down navigation system, quite the opposite, I want the real deal. But, I want to be comfortable using the real deal and have confidence that I am doing it right. A good video on setting up ILS/TACAN, what your guages and indicators should look like and judging your situation in low vis conditions with said equipment would be a Godsend to us newer virtual pilots. Cheers, alphie P.S. The closest I ever got to figuring it out was the Falcon 4.0 manual, but I still wouldnt trust myself to use instrument only landing in that sim, either I would miss some basic fundamental or read something completely wrong and wind up in a ditch, nose-in @500 ft from the runway. -
Stumbled on to this thread from another. Thanks a million!
