Dogfighting is really getting me annoyed
Alphagamer1981 replied to Alphagamer1981's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
This is the thing I have only been able to practice against AI so I only know what I have experienced from them and I don't know what I don't know if that makes sense. Watching a video of someone doing it is helpful to a point but you don't see or get a feel of how they are handling their stick, and while they make it look easy, they maybe aren't explaining it well enough for it to be noted. This is why I was looking for other real players to take me under their wing for a short period so that I can be corrected when I'm doing something wrong instead of making the same mistakes over and over -
Dogfighting is really getting me annoyed

i swear this game is actually trolling me now. After venting and getting all that off my chest, I just tried one of the missions i always get shot down on, and wouldnt you know, i took down 2 ju-88's and one of the 2 109s and made it back to base as if everything i was struggling with before somehow wasn't an issue anymore -
Dogfighting is really getting me annoyed

oh i have been patient. I have tried pulling on the turn, i have tried letting the plane turn on its own, but they just seem to always zip past. While constantly turning to get round to them, they end up in front of me for a few seconds and they are already facing me and zip right back behind me again, by this time im already starting to stall on the turn and while im spinning around in literal circles to get this one plane, another one has already made it behind me and is taking pot shots while my flight is just flying around doing aerobatics like its an airshow -
So I have pretty much had to watch tutorials on how to do everything, and I have pretty much got everything nailed except the dogfighting part. All the youtube guides just don't seem to work for me and I have followed them exactly, the correct rpm and throttle settings, yet I'm always getting the same problem. In all the video guides i see, they always manage to keep enemy fighters in front of them and follow them with ease on turns and take pot shots like shooting fish in a barrel. However when i follow it exactly, I get them outrunning me on turns and I can't keep up with them and end up always losing energy and getting stuck in a stall roll type situation. Then they spend 90% of the time on my tail and I can't ever shake them off because 1. There are next to no guides on how to shake off an enemy from your tail, and 2. because im stuck at low speeds, im then having to fly straight to build up speed by which they shoot my ass off every time. Its starting to get so frustrating and annoying now, that I'm actually losing interest in playing because the guides make it look so easy and even when i follow them, it just doesn't work for me. I even tried asking on this forum to join someone to help me and practice get my skill up and my post got ignored.

gui layer? i have probably gone past that or seen that 100 times but can't seem to find it now

There are 2 keybinds i cant seem to find that i need. 1. apparently there is a key or option to speed up the replay tracks to get you where you need faster 2. Active pause. Not sure if this one is real or accurate (Spitfire)

My First Spitfire Mk IX Video
Alphagamer1981 replied to Alphagamer1981's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Ok, found some instant action missions where i can practice landing and wouldn't you know, because i wasn't recording or trying to make a fun video, I glided down and touched down as gently as a golden retriever holding its pup in its mouth. -
Ok, I just came back to DCS after about 10 years, only been flying the Spitfire for a few weeks and learning as i go. I know some of the pro gamers/pilots here are going to call out some of my dialogue as being incorrect, but hey, I'm still a novice. And yes my landings really need some work (I guess i need a test mission where i just need to practice landing to get better fast.) However, what I lack in some parts, I make up with my cinematic visuals.

So basically I want to add my name on the side of the spitfire as well as a enemy plane kill list just like they used to. Where are the files located for the spitfire skins so I can edit them? Is there anything i need to do after i have made my own skin so the game will recognise it or is it just a case of saving the original file somewhere safe and just replacing it?

Can I edit pre made missions to perform ramp starts?
Alphagamer1981 posted a topic in Mission Editor
So I'm using the ww2 spitfire and channel pack, and they come with a bunch of premade missions that part of the spitfire dlc. Only thing is, the missions usually start on the runway or with the plane turned on and ready to go. I want to do a full ramp start of my plane for all missions, I just need to know if I can edit these premade missions and how to change it from runway start to cold cockpit start -
New recruit looking for leader
Alphagamer1981 replied to Alphagamer1981's topic in World War II Squadrons
Thats cool, I'm not looking for a big group anyway so that is fine, I have spitfire, Me-109 and channel islands. I'm looking to get the normandy map and mosquito pack when i get paid next. Currently i enjoy air to air, but that's probably because i haven't had any air to ground missions yet to compare them. After practicing all week and watching multiple videos on youtube I am now able to do a full ramp start from cold cockpit, and landing, The only thing I need work on is my dogfighting, I can handle the bombers as they are big and slow, but i end up either getting myself into a death spin or burning out my engine trying to chase me-109's thus why im looking for a partner to help clean up some of my bad habits and improve my skills where needed. Besides that i'm pretty competent, able to follow instructions, and always willing to learn. -
but no rewind. So if you want to get multiple takes of one part, you have to reload it all from the start
-
Ok So I really like making cinematic videos for youtube and good camera angles, and I think the replay viewer within DCS could really do with some additional controls To help getting some really good shots. At the very basic level just a play, rewind, fast forward and pause option. Anything additional is a plus, but at the very least have these options to speed up editing. Even if its just a scrubber bar at the bottom of the screen. If there is already something like this that i have missed in the mods section, I would love to have a link for it.

Engine failure recovery
Alphagamer1981 replied to Alphagamer1981's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Im assuming its the same deal if your plane looks like a cheese grater from enemy fire and it gives up. -
Ok, so I just found out why my engines burn out via reading another thread (going ham on the rpm and boost management instead of using the correct power) However Restarting the engine is the problem im having. If I'm high enough, I Will try to use the pump choke 5 times. I also pull back the mixture control to idle, restart both magneto switches and push the starter and boost coil, but nothing. Am I thinking that the engine is well and truly fried and i either need to ditch or bail? Or is there an extended procedure to get it going again? I know prevention is better than cure, but the more you know, the less planes you lose during the battle of britain

Looking for guidance/wisdom on settings for Cinematics
Alphagamer1981 replied to LHP's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Hello cousin fancy seeing you here. I use blender, 3ds max, daz studio, after effects with the element 3d plugin. I'm planning on knocking up some pretty good flying scenes and story based videos mixed with ingame footage -
Just got some of the WW2 packs in the steam sale and looking to join an RAF group, and someone to help me get better with DCS. I'm not new to flight sims, been playing them since the sinclair spectrum and Atari ST days. Did Lan link ups with my dad in microprose f29 retaliator on the Atari before the internet was a thing. Been playing star citizen since 2016 and IL-2 Stormovik up until now. Mainly been solo so I don't know what I don't know if that makes sense and I guess I need some mentoring and to join a group to do active missions

Hello All, this is my first post here. I just moved over to DCS from IL-2 Stormavik and got myself a decent ww2 pack in the steam sales including the Spitfire, Channel map, bf-109 and I'm now learning the DCS way of flying the spit. So my question is about the waypoint system within the map/mission planning screen. When I take off, My plane has a line parented to waypoint 1, but when I reach it, the waypoints do not update and change to waypoint 2, 3 etc.. Now i know ww2 planes did not have a gps system or any kind of computer waypoint system within the cockpit, but I just need to know how you change/update the waypoints within the map screen. Clicking on the waypoint, highlights them and gives you information about them, but apart from that I can't seem to interact with them, and have to complete the whole mission while parented to waypoint one. Any help? Regards
