Chuck's manual - "In snowplow mode, the TGP line of sight is commanded straight ahead and angled downwards to point to the ground ahead at half of the currently selected FCR (Fire Control Radar) scale (for example, if selected FCR scale is 40 nm, the TGP will look at the point on the ground 20 nm ahead)."

Was your FCR scale set high?
  2. GrEaSeLiTeNiN's post in Asking for advice on where to start and good tutorial was marked as the answer
The Apache was my first DCS helo. I did not go by the read-the-manual approach. I basically:
1a. Watched DCS Apache YouTube tutorials, compiled here.
1b. Watched real world helo educational videos, compiled here. They were interesting and helped me understand concepts like VRS, mast bumping, swash plate movement, etc. You can skip this if already familiar.
    2. Mapped my hotas for pilot and CPG on the fly in a custom target rich mission, to see what each command did.
    3. For more details/clarification, I word searched Chuck's PDF manual using keywords of topics that needed clarification, or asked questions in this forum. (You can word search the forums here as many questions and issues you may have would probably have been discussed and answered.)

    Have fun!

As far as I know, he can't. He only engages targets you select on the target list. Maybe later on they might give him some AI initiative.
  5. GrEaSeLiTeNiN's post in Usable in SP without swapping seats or using AI? was marked as the answer
Tomcat in SP wasn't for me either. But the Apache is not the same as the Tomcat when it comes to the 2-seater/pit thing in solo. The Apache pilot and CPG share quite a lot of hocas commands. You can fly and fight in either seat unlike in the Tomcat. George may not be perfect or smart but he can keep his targeting bracket on a moving target such as a helo better than a human can (even before IAT came about). And he can pick out targets you can't see (labels off). He is useful if you know how to use him IMO. When I switch seats, it's not so much because I need to but because I want to (for example, as pilot I get into the CPG pit because I want to have a go at the TEDAC). So I can enjoy both. Also, like all attack helos, the Apache only has a few weapons (and no radar at this point). So there isn't a lot of commands to grapple with in the AI menu as compared to a 2-seat fighter jet.
  6. GrEaSeLiTeNiN's post in Do I need to keep BS2 now that I have BS3? was marked as the answer
Updated: Just to sum up the answers from the various contributors (thanks!).
    - Whether you own BS2 or not, you have the option to pick the BS3 2011 version in the ME "..." tab which is like a 'polished' BS2 with the LWS and no ODS.
    - Keep your old BS2 if you want to fly old missions and campaigns developed over the years for BS2 unless you want to convert them.
    - According to this, BS3 should work fine on its own if you uninstall your BS2.

Have a look at this, though it is for the Mi-24P.

Yep TMS right on AG FCR SOI for TGT/OA1/OA2 or press AG FCR OSB 10 (Sighting Option Selector, Chuck's Guide pg 221) "TGT".
  9. GrEaSeLiTeNiN's post in George any good as CPG? was marked as the answer
In a nutshell, CPG George is as good as your use of the command rose. He won’t or can’t proactively search out targets other than those in the direction you tell him to look at. Procedurally he is fast, of course, being AI.

Search again (aft long press) often does ‘stop tracking’ (aft short press). So you are better off just using forward (short press) again to get George to find targets.

Trees are a problem. He sees the target behind the trees but can only store them (they are not actually stored - WIP).

Pilot George - I use mainly the FLT command rose in combat. I find CMBT is less employable as the long presses don’t seem to work well.

Update/to add:  As pilot, you select the weapons and its sub options (eg. LOBL/LOAL, rocket quantity) for CPG George via the command rose, he won't. As CPG, Pilot George will just fly straight and wherever you tell him to fly to, via the command rose. He won't perform evasive maneuvers and you have to tell him to arm the CMWS via the command rose as he won't do it on his own even in battle. I don't think he dispenses chaff and flares if CMWS is set to bypass so I leave it in auto or do it myself. Some of it is probably WIP.
  10. GrEaSeLiTeNiN's post in The cyclic and collective do not seem to work from the front seat. Do I have to transfer controls somehow? was marked as the answer
As CPG, press C to gain control of cyclic to take over flying.
