  1. Belsimteks lack of communication in general is pretty irksome to say the least

Quite true. Also I'm not a big fan of their "beta" strategy. The Sabre has been in "beta" for more than a year now. The Mi8 has been in beta for 2 years. The Huey still does not get the engine overheat modeled and that is out for more than 2 years. Actually, looking at their products, everything they made, except the Huey, is in this never ending beta stage. I hope they will finish all their modules (which I all have btw) first before releasing a 5th unfinished beta module, which I would probably not buy anymore (unless it was something irresistible like F16 or Mig29).

  2. It's my opinion that steam is just a hair more convenient. God knows I have a bunch of games I bought outside of steam that I keep forgetting exists cause it's not on by steam games list.

You can always add DCS into steam as a non-Steam game. That way you will see it in your game list, you can launch DCS under steam and use all the steam overlay functions while in-game but still have technically a separate copy of DCS outside steam.

  3. Why is this weekend flash sale not applicable to steam?

And also, what's the difference between buying a download copy here and buying it on steam?

Flash sales on ED store never apply to steam and as far as I know modules purchased on ED store cannot be activated on Steam. It makes sense really and personally I buy directly from ED. I hope they make more money that way. Plus you get faster updates I guess.

But one thing caught my eye when I checked the ED store today - I see all modules at the full price. What's going on ? And then I noticed in the newsletter :

does not apply to former Soviet Union countries

    Why is that ?

PS: Personally I don't really mind as I pretty much have almost all DCS modules anyway (mostly purchased at full price) and the last few I don't have I'm not really interested in at all. But I wanted to send the link to friends that I'm infecting with the sim bug so they can grab some stuff on sale but I guess no luck this time.

edit: Now, couple hours later, however I see all prices discounted as they should be in the sale so it does actually apply to former SU countries as well after all ? I guess it does.

  4. Hello,

I recently purchased a second monitor (exactly the same model as my first monitor) so naturally I wanted to give DCS a try but the mouse clicks are not registering at all. When I go to external view I can still rotate around the plane with the mouse but I cannot click anything. I did some googling around the forum and found some older threads about this issue which were resolved by disabling aero. Not in my case though. I can also alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del out and switch back into sim but still no luck. Any ideas how to solve this please ? When I switch my settings back to a single monitor setup the mouse works fine.

I use a modified version of the "3Cameras.lua" script, which I changed to fit my configuration.

  5. Im gratefull for the stream but is Twitch really the best medium ?

I mean since Wags doesn't interact with the audience and questions are picked up on the forums why not just upload a video on Youtube ?

Wags would have more time to work on it, he could edit out all the little quirks (like forgetting to launch TIR) and maybe even ask Glowing Amraam for some eye-candy shots.

As far as I know no one has any problem with Youtube while a few people reports issues with Twitch.

And if you're going to upload it to YT anyway Twitch seems like uneccessary workload.

Nah, twitch is probably actually the best for such quick updates and show and tells. Matt has probably better things to do than spend the whole weekend recording and editing proper videos. This way he can just sit down when he has time, show us some of the good stuff and if there is some quirk or hickup nobody cares cause its a live stream.

  6. On one hand I would also like to see a bit more interaction between the host and the audience, it's what makes the "live" stream different from a simple video imho, but on the other hand I can understand that it's probably not so easy to fly a sim while talking to people and also reading the chat (and it would look awkward with the TrackIR every time he'd turn his head to read the chat). Not to mention that at least half of those messages in chat were "what are his PC specs" But I liked the live Q&A during the test stream more than the "10 for the chairman" style in the last stream. Still, it's alright as it is, much better than an occasional newsletter. Although I think they had to do something to calm everyone down after the last one 'cause a lot of pitchforks were sharpened

  7. Will it be possible to have the new maps installed onto a separate hard drive, or will it be necessary for them to be co-located with the main DCS World file structure?

My SSD drive is getting pretty full, and I'd like to just install an additional drive instead of transferring everything to a bigger main drive.

It would be nice feature but even if it's not supported you can always make a symbolic link even between different HDDs in Windows. I use it all the time. The trouble would be if DCS would not follow the link but so far it works well for things like missions - links work fine.

  8. Great stuff, but may I please suggest a b&w printer friendly version without the background image and the huge black boxes on the last page ? I would suggest to make them standard black text on white background please.

  9. I look forward to an update about whether thermal imaging (a functional one) will be implemented with 2.0. It is an important shortcoming of 1.x.

I actually asked Matt this question in the short Q&A before the live stream and he replied that it is on the to-do list but it will most probably not be a part of the initial release. Still it's good news that it's being planned at least. :)

  10. Hi,

I'm currently flying only with DCS and X-Plane. I'd like to ask if in your opinion it's worth switching from X-Plane to Prepar3D.

I like X-Plane and I spent some good money on it already but the glacial speed of development and a lack of content for it is a bit frustrating.

So I was looking at Prepar3D as a possible candidate to replace it to fulfill my civil aviation flying needs. Though I'd like to ask here you guys first as even the initial investment in the platform itself is $200 plus if I switched I would for sure like to buy some addons as well.

I think Prepar3D is still 32 bit only correct ? Is 64 bit planned ?

How is the FPS and stability of Prepar3D ?

Is it being actively developed and supported ?

How is the compatibility with existing FSX addons and addons in general ? Are they being properly supported and developed in your opinion ?

Is there something important missing in Prepar3D in your opinion ?

One more thing. I disqualified FSX from my considerations for a new platform because I think it's dying and not worth the investment anymore. It's already 10 years old, not being developed anymore and even the company that is selling the FSX:SE said that they will not be developing the platform into the future.

PS: While browsing the Prepar3D license overview page I found that we are apparently forbidden to be entertained by it, but hey, I can always say I'm learning right ? lol.gif

  11. Looking at the screenshot I see that the pit pretty much looks complete

Well I wouldn't hold my breath for the f18 just yet. The screenshot is probably in-game, true, but the important thing is the development of all the internal systems. If you check closer you can see that all the dials are dead, there are no needles, no displays. But who knows if this is because the systems are not modeled yet or because they were simply not hooked up to the cockpit animations yet. I hope it's the latter :-)

  12. some of us will be brushing our teeth and driving to work :)

Don't brush your teeth while driving, it's dangerous :megalol:

btw: How about creating a countdown for the live stream ? With it everyone will see how much time is left and spare us the timezone calculations ? And just put the countdown link to the event announcement in the first post so everyone can see it.

    http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/create

  13. Pretty sure if that person does that, and is found out, they could get in trouble, or atleast be asked to remove the video. Its a copyright infringement.

Would ED really press the copyright claim ? Wouldn't the person uploading the video just pretty much be promoting their game for free ? It's not like they make their money off youtube videos.

  14. There is no axis control for speed brakes in A10C afaik. But there are multiple things you can do here in the X52 software. I have X52 as well and what I did was to set the, in my opinion otherwise useless, mouse XY mini joystick to bands mode and then set the top and bottom bands to keys like [ and ]. Leave the center band empty. Then in DCS simply bind [ and ] keys to extend/retract speed brakes and voila - you now have a nice speed brake control on your throttle without wasting any buttons or hats. I also set the "mouse click" button next to the mini joystick to a key combination that I use to re-center my headtracker.

Also what I can recommend is to set in the X52 software the FireD button as CTRL for example. Doing this will waste you one button on throttle but it will vastly increase the number of things you can bind directly to your hotas in DCS now because now you can do things like "CTRL+HAT_UP" etc. giving you effectively twice as many controls available to you to bind ready at your fingertips. No need to switch the X52 mode with the rotary or clutch for example to get more controls. Also I would recommend disabling the clutch button in the driver. It's just a waste of a button that can be better used in my opinion. If you do that the clutch functionality will be disabled but you will still be able to switch modes using the rotary on the stick. I never use that though myself. But I guess it depends on personal preference and how you like to have your hotas configured.

edit: I attached my X52 DCS profile so you can see how I did it - just unzip it and load the profile into the X52 software. It might also be a good idea to save your current profile before you do that as I have also other custom things set in that profile that you might not want so just check it out how it's done and then customize your own profile to your liking. Cheers.

  15. For those that don't understand what an Alpha release is (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle):

I believe ED is pushing for feature complete

Well, according to that link :

    1) "feature complete" release is actually usually called beta

    2) the fact the DCS is constantly evolving platform and I assume that new features will be added even after the release, as time goes by, this naming system makes even less sense to me.

But meh, I guess, call it whatever just release it already please :music_whistling:
