  1. Haha - What else would you expect from us? We also still use imperial units for measurements
  2. Thanks for coming to my rescue - I was starting to feel like an inferior pilot :helpsmilie: I started mine in 1996 but had to take some time off and then finished up in 2001. I wasn't that far from you. I flew out of kgai in Montgomery county MD. I think you're right ethereal, it must be different continents. We'll get the altimeter setting from the tower or from the weather recording and we set it on startup. I've always used msl or QNH and never zeroed the altimeter to the field elevation. Now this is all in a 172 ( from the 1970's no less) so it isn't the most hi-tech airframe out there. I have been given barometric pressure from ATC and the tower but it's always MSL (at least in my case as a VFR pilot).
  3. Thanks for the info. After reading up on the q codes it would seem that I've been used to QNH. My guess is QFE is more relevant to IFR flight and DH on approach?
  4. So where can you find out more about QFE? I'm always wondering what ATC is instructing me to do on TO. I have to admit I'm a privat pilot and I've never heard of QFE before.
  5. I just got my new one from tigerdirect. No issues. It also came with the latest firmware so might have been an issue with earlier hardware. The unit number on the one with the POV problem was 21--something. The new one is 71--something. I also noticed the new stick had a yellow arrow sticker on the base and the control to show you how to mate the two. I guess people were assembling them incorrectly on initial release because my first one didn't have those.
  6. Same pov issue with one I bought at micro center today. The pov only registers right an no other directions. Installed updated drivers and firmware and no resolution. Returning to micrometer tomorrow. Might be an older unit. Firmware was rev 9 on the stick and 11 on the throttle.
