Thank you everyone for your concise and useful replies. A have a lot to try when I get in tonight. Hopefully I'll be dropping laser guided bombs "like its cool". if I don't have any success I'll post a track, so you can make fun of my dodgy flying. -
Auto Lase and Laser Latch on\off

I see, that makes a lot of sense. I normally drop GBU-12's from 5000 - 7000 feet. And I hadn't realised the M on the TGP meant target is masked. I can use most of the other munitions (apart from unguided munitions in CCIP) and the Laser guided Bombs are the last ones I want to master, before attempting the campaign. (I have 30 hours+ flying time just practising weapons delivery, takeoff\landings and nothing else) -
What is the relationship between auto lasing and using the NWS button to fire you laser? If you Setup your GBU-12 to auto lase 12 seconds before impact, do you still have to active the laser using NWS (latch on or off) does that mean (with the latch on) the laser will fire 12 seconds before weapon impact. Or does the laser fire 12 second before impact without any Pilot intervention. I am really confused, not to mention frustrated with Laser guided munitions (admittedly is more than likely user error). I did notice when using the weapons cam, the weapon only seems to nose over after a few seconds of flight (I have been told the seeker is on the nose). So do you have to lase once the weapon has pointed in the correct direction, ergo down.

This x10, I had all kind of crazy ideas about 3 monitors and 7" USB screens for MFCD's etc... I got a TrackIR 5 last week, and I now realise I don't need 3 monitors. The amount of Situational awareness you get just from that one purchase is just as good as if not better than loads of monitors, and its cheaper too. The best part is being able to dynamically look at you instrumentation, even if you did have 3 monitors you'd probably still have to use the POV to look at the radio panel etc...

Without wanting to go off topic too much... the bit where Mr cage is driving around with a pair of boxer shorts and a periscope attached to his head was amazing. And if I remember correctly the main villian flew a OH-6 Cayuse?

The Sim itself is great value, I have no doubt I'll using it for many years to come, and I bet the experience will remain fresh. This Sim is a study in the art of user generated content. What other game could achieve that? However, I dare not recount the cost of all of the "essential" peripheries and accoutrements to go with it. The list is growing, and all of its expensive :) I personally will be buying everything ED releases until they run out of planes\ helicopters\tanks\ships\segways to make sims for :P And that means I don't have to spend £30+ on an xbox game I use for 6 hours and then never pick up again. Life is good.

How refreshing :) If i was to make a guess, i'd say that the DCS type of sim appeals to a certain type of person, who is probably more mature\literate than most game forum posters. I agree with the OP though, what a game...

Loss of fidelity definitely not something I want. I use a Zotac GTX 460 1GB, which runs most things in 1920x1080 which no appreciable loss of frame rate, I did notice a drop, however when I incorporated my second monitor and set it up to view the 2 MFCD's especially when viewing explosions. I like having the MFCD's but I am so used to looking around the cockpit using the pov hat and zoom, I rarely look at the second monitor. Maybe I have been approaching this the wrong way, seeing as how I can use TrackIR to look at the MFCD's and view the cockpit, do i really need the MFCD's on the second monitor? Do I actually need 3 monitors? the money i save could get me the pedal or the TM warthog... I suppose after I've used TrackIR for a few days i'll know :)

I currently use an LG 23" monitor and an old dell 17" flat monitor, I have the MFCD's on the second monitor which works very nicely. I only got my TrackIR yesterday and i haven't had a proper play with it yet, but I'll know soon enough if it does what I want. If so great, i just saved some money :) I found out to my horror that the cost for Matrox TripleheadHead2Go and a new motherboard \graphics card are about the same. That being the case i'd go with the new card\board, as they can be applied to other applications. Edit; I just looked at your sig, that's pretty much what i imagined as to be the ideal setup, any regrets?

Hi, If this is the incorrect forum i apologise. First off I'll say i am utterly smitten with this game. My love affair with flight sims started by playing microprose's F-19 Stealth Fighter on my A500(still have the manual and its wonderfully complex). DCS:BS is amazing, much better than Enemy engaged (which was until BS my favourite flight sim), but most of my childhood dreams of a realistic sim have been imagined by DCS:A-10c. Because i feel i am only getting a little snippet of the total experience (which is still pretty fantastic), i have taken leave of my good sense and started spending money like its going out of fashion. My current shopping list is, included but not limited to; Thrustmaster HOTAS warthog (i have an 2 month old x52, so that’s getting replaced) Rudder pedals (don’t know which ones) Cougar MFCD's 7" usb mini monitors. I got myself a TrackIR 5 Pro yesterday (i haven’t had time to mess around with it but its looking good so far) I'd really like to get a 3 monitor setup going on. But, my current graphics card only supports 2 outputs. The way i see it, my options are; 1.Get a Matrox triplehead to go. 2. buy a new new motherboard that supports SLI or Crossfire and another graphics card. so i put it to you the community, in your experiences what the best way to do this. Or has anyone already dealt with this quandary?

Hi, I have been going through the training missions in DCS: A-10 since I got it from steam (about 2 weeks ago) I seem to have come to an impasse, and I wonder if this is a common issue. Whenever I attempt the landing training I cannot progress any further than setting the ILS frequency, no matter what I do the game will not register the fact have set the ILS frequency. My second question is, I know that steam automatically patches games, and I know there was a patch released recently, but I don't think my copy has been updated by steam. Do I have to patch the game files manually? Thanks in advance.
