  1. this didnt seem like wind, as i had full rudder to the left.. also on a full runway i only got up to 120 knots and ran off the runway. something was def wrong.
  2. i have been using a couple of the guides posted on here to do the start up procedure. I might be doing something wrong but when i startup i dont see the TVV (total velocity vector) in the HUD. all i see is a cross. When i try to take off, the plane feels like its pulling to the right. i was thinking that maybe im messing up the take off trim settings. Any ideas for these two problems?
  3. Well typography is not really to look pretty but to explain things like what is important and what is less important. The Air speed and altitude is in a slightly larger font to show that it is indeed the most important of all the other text on the HUD.. however thats the only thing that is different in all of the text in all of the computer text in the plane. There is alot to typography including the negative space between words, letters, and paragraphs. When a noob is confronted with a wall of text when he jumps in the a-10, there is nothing that jumps out at him in terms of hierarchy, guiding him to what things he needs to see immediately and what things he doesnt need to see right away. This was the biggest thing for me when i started. As i learned the systems, i saw alot of flaws in hierarchy of text and functions and how its positioned on the screen.
  4. Can you imagine that being a marketing campaign for DCS-a10c "you will spend years learning how to play this game" haha yeah totally agree that planes are not designed to to be flown overnight.. however complexity should be eliminated at all cost. There is no need for mega complexity if its not warranted. One thing that sticks out for me is the font size in every computer display. No bold, no different font size etc. There was no typography considered at all with these systems!
  5. First of all part of my job is to do user interface design. So when i bought dcs-a10c a couple months ago i was thrown back by the amount of bad design in this plane. Its just so amazing at how far we have come in terms of interface design. This plane was designed in the 70s and new computer systems have been updated with new technology. But still the whole system and the terminology is just so damn archaic. I know the government and its contractors hire some of the smartest people in the world but probably aren't hiring the right people. If you were to take a modern day designer and redesign the user interface of the Multifunction displays and the hud, i guarantee you would be flying and killing with this a10 simulator in a matter of days not weeks. But maybe they just make it hard so people aren't jumping in an stealing planes left and right.
  6. This looks like a great app. Im sure alot of work was put into it.. but the price is just too much. I bought DCS-a10 on sale for 20 dollars. But this app is 30 bucks. If iControl was 10 bucks i would buy it in a second. But i cant justify an software accessory that costs more than the game. BTW im also a software developer and have created my own ios apps.
  7. for autopilot there are 3 different modes. The default one (flying level and on the same heading) requres that your are flying level for a second before you engage the autopilot. If you are diving/climbing and then put your nose icon at the level mark and hit autopilot its not going to work. You need to be relatively level and then hit the autopilot and hear the tone. The other modes of allow you to fly in a circle (making a level turn while engaging autopilot). I never use the other mode but i think it does a heading and angle autopilot.. so you could climb and head in one direction hands free. Also you switch between these by hiting 2-4 on the keyboard. or look for the switch behind the throttle.
  8. agree with you Draux. I also doubt that steam is witholding an update based on revenue. Really all us steam users should email steams customer support and request the update. I have already done this.
  9. i can download from ED but ill have to explain this to my dad. Too complicated for him. An auto steam update is how things should be.
  10. totally agree with you Snakeyez82. I work for a major video game company and understand how easy updating can be when the proper code is put in place, which i can almost guarantee that Steam has in place. It should be as easy as the patch getting uploaded, and steam flips the switch after review. In my company we do daily updates and we ask everyone to check in their new code (after code review and QA) and once everything is good to go, we will do a reboot of the servers.
  11. Im left handed and like everything else in the world i have had to learn to be more right handed. right handed scissors, right handed golfing.. Just adapt. i fly with the trottle on my left and stick on myright
  12. its strange that it takes so long for steam to update. Most games like Battlefield 3 do not lag this bad when it comes to updates. They are usually in line with their PS3 and Xbox updates. At the most they are 1 week late.
