Go to the bin directory in your dcs installation and type: DCS_Updater.exe update 2.9.5
I am back at 2.9.5 because I was fed up with those constant freezes. And so are my friends who fly with me because I always serve the missions.
As a bonus, fps have also increased dramatically.

Thank you for the information. Does it work for Steam users as well ?

  2. ED has failed to deliver a dynamic campaign through the last 10 yrs or so. There are reasons for this, good and bad.
Retribution is the best thing that happened to DCS and actually the closest thing we had to a proper DC.
I'm gutted it's no longer working.
Looking at a screenshot contest waiting for "optimization" is a bitter consolation. DCS has never felt so beautiful and... empty.

All my squadron is considering rolling back to 2.9.5,  alpha testing is definitely not our thing. I believe there is a command line for the updater.exe, but I'm not sure if Steam allows it.

Who has some experience rolling back steam clients and dedicated servers ?

  3. I am not sure "optimizations and improvments" are the words we were expecting at this point.
In my world, you cannot optimize or improve something that is utterly broken.
Whether something can be fixed or not.

Maybe it's time to have an honest talk and think about a proper roll back procedure.
That's not ideal, but the MP community might consider rolling back to 2.9.5 and stay there as long as needed.

If ED cannot fix its own sim, because it's a mess built upon layers of old code. So be it.
2.9.5 might be the end of the road...

I'm not venting, I'm simply trying to assess my options to keep on flying with my squadron mates.

To be sure you can rename your saved games dcs folder ( keep it as a backup )
Restart DCS login and redo your desired settings, we can rule out any strangeness with settings or configs then.

Of course you can always return to the origional by changing the name again.

See if you notice any difference with this fresh saved games folder.

As mentioned we are looking into fps issues some are seeing and we are also working on optimisations for a future update.

I'm glad the dev team is actively looking into it.
The performance hit seems to be so widespread for people who are running complex mission files, I reckon everyone is impacted.
I might be wrong and biased.
Do you mean some ppl can still  run a .miz with lots of ground and air objects without noticing the radical FPS drop  ?
I understand that after each and every update some ppl complain about a performance while a large silent minority is fine if not better, but it seems to me that the latest update are killing most of the big servers.

  5. Thx for your answer.
Actually I have already VD, but can't decide wether to use it or not. My router is fast and I can't perceive any latency.
What bothers me is the fact VD presets don't mention the resolution. I believe the god preset has the full resolution of the Quest 2 but it is unplayable  for me.
I need to make some further investigations

  6. I have VD and a Quest 2,
FPS wise, Is there any benefit using VD rather than Link at the same resolution ?
Are the performance better with VD ?
I understand the added values are the codex quality and the ease of use. Am I correct ? Wireless is irrelevant to me because the battery wouldn't last long enough for my flying session.

Hi guys, I play liberation daily now but the main problem is the frame rate drops significantly with my VR. Evidently there are a lot of resources at play. How can I make sure dcs doesn't eat up all my RAM? Thanks

Run a dedicated DCS mission server, preferably on a different PC (which doesn't need any special GPU, only some RAM and CPU).  If you don't have a spare PC , you can run a separate DCS server on your gaming PC. It should benefit from the Mulicore/thread ability of your system, and ease up the load on the main DCS instance.

  8. Yes I know about the relation between FOV and sense of speed. Before VR and DCS ruined every other hobbies of mine, I was playing Assetto Corsa.

The fact is, whenever I fly over cars, I suddenly get a proper sense of scale, and I can't help myself thinking : " Wow ! I'm fast after all".

Therefore my sense of scale is wrong most of the time, I believe (but could be wrong) the big trees are a likely culprit.
